g. All Residence Halls:
i. One thing that Residence Life does is offer to students at the
end of the year, a way to recycle electronic waste. They set up a
special place for students to bring in electronics that have
broken over the courseof the schoolyear.
I have noticed that it is never hard to find a trash can on campus. There is
always a trash can alongside a recycling can on each floor of each building on
campus.
But, I decided to ask what students thought about the many cans and how
they feel about how they know what to put in the cans. In Anderson Hall, residents
really like the multiple trash chutes in the trash rooms; they only have to go to one
place to get rid of trash and recycling. Residence Life also does a great job of
informing of what goes in each chute. They have words AND pictures, and that
information doesn’ttake up a lot of space. Then, residence in Mortenson don’tlike
how there is only a Trash chute and no recycling bins on each floor.
When I asked students about trash and recycling bins around campus, the
majority never really thought about them, but realized that it is nice that you really
don’thave to search hard to find either one; they are on every floor of every
building. But, students have said, because of some new products, like the Naboo
take out boxes, they don’tknow what REALLY goes into which bin. So, I think it
would be great to take on the way Residence Life informs residence on what goes
in what bin, the confusion would slip away.
