Effective Communication is vital in health and social care context. It enables us to develop good
relationships with the service users and to anyone that is involved within health and social care
organisation (Grove, 2012).
As a new care worker, I was asked to shadow my co–worker at work. The service user is Mrs. M., a
60–yr. old female diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy (MD), she gets easily frustrated and
anxious due to her difficulty in communicating verbally. Though I was slightly nervous, I was
relaxed and has a smile on my face when I knock on her door. I said, "Good evening, Ms. M, may I
come in?" I waited for her reply. She looked at me, smiled and nodded. So, I went inside and said,
"Thank you". In this scenario, I applied the humanistic theory based on Carl Roger's Person–Centred
Approached (1902–1987) that states that having an environment that provides substance, acceptance
and empathy helps the person to reach their true potentials (Rogers, 1977). My role as a care
worker is to engage in a manner that promotes individual respect (Alzheimer's Society, 2011). The
benefits of this method are clear through the polite and professional conversation I had with the
service user. Mrs. M felt empowered when the manner of communication we had given her the
feeling of being in controlled of her environment.
When I introduced myself to Mrs. M, I applied the 'communication cycle' theory developed by
sociologist Michael Argyle (1972), it is where the individual

Procrastination
I.Attention Getter: A famous author by the name of Wayne Dyer once said, "Procrastination is one
of the most common and deadliest of diseases and its toll on success and happiness is incredibly
heavy."(1) In todays society it seems as if procrastination has become a normal and acceptable thing
to do. It is often joked about amongst schoolmates and co–workers around the world. Nothing seems
to get done until it absolutely needs to get done, then everyone runs around getting things done
quickly and often times inaccurately. The trouble with this mentality however is that some things
will never get done because something will come up tomorrow or the next day and what you are
putting off now gets pushed even further back. Today I will persuade you to stop this habit from
continuing. I will be explaining the problems we face when dealing with procrastination as well as
how to deal with it and actions you can take to prevent it in the future.
Transition: It is in our human nature to procrastinate, some of us do it more than others but learning
about this problem and understanding how it can effect you can be beneficial to everyone
II.Need(the Problem): According to an article from Psychology Today, "20 percent of people
chronically avoid difficult tasks and deliberately look for distractions" (2) and According to recent
research "Procrastination has more than quadrupled in the last 30

Don't Ignore Climate Change
Purpose : To persuade my audience to change their perception on climate change.
Thesis : Climate change is a controversial topic that some believe to be fake. Studies show that
climate change is a real danger going on around us. These studies uncover what the future holds for
humanity. As humans it is our moral duty to do what is right by earth, that has been our home for
millions of years.
1. Attention A. Read quote by the 8th Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki–moon, "We
are the first generation to be able to end poverty, and the last generation that can take steps to avoid
the cost impacts of climate change. Future generations will judge us harshly If we fail to uphold our
moral and historical responsibilities. B. Climate change, many of you have probably heard about it its
also referred as global warming. Climate change definition :is the change of a regions usual weather.
Climate change is something we should take seriously and this is why.
2. Needs
There are many problems that come with climate change that are currently affecting us and the plant
right now. A. The first problem is that the earth is warming or global warming. The earths
temperature is recorded all around the world. Scientists have been recording the increasing
temperatures for the past century. These records show that the earths temperature have risen more
than 1.71 degree Fahrenheit between 1880 and 2016. B.The next problem is

Persuasive Speech On Blood Donations
Donating Blood
Just imagine if one of your brothers or sisters was born with a heart defect and had to have daily
transfusions of blood in order to have a chance of survival. Unfortunately, things happen like this
everyday and some of you may have experienced them already. In this essay I am going to persuade
you to become a blood donor. I try to donate blood every two months or so because it makes me
feel like I am doing something good and saving people's lives. Do you know that 95% of all
Americans will need a blood transfusion sometime in our lives (Red Cross web site)? That statistic
means that there is a possibility that you, and your family and friends could need support from
volunteer blood donors. In this essay I will discuss the need for blood donations, solutions that can
increase blood donations, and actions that need to be taken to increase blood donations.
The need for blood is growing more everyday while the numbers of donors is decreasing. Sickle
cell disease affects more than 70,000 people in the U.S. About 1,000 babies are born with the
disease each year. Sickle cell patients can require frequent blood transfusions throughout their
lives (RedCrossBlood.org). According to the Red Cross blood website 41,000 pints of blood are
needed every single day, and they need us to make that possible. Donating blood is a safe process
that is done with a sterile needle used only one time for each donor. There is a four–step process to
donating blood. First, is the

Domestic Violence Persuasive Speech
On behalf of Christians, I am here today to represent the values, attitudes and beliefs of Christianity
on the topic of domestic violence. Unfortunately, domestic violence is a widespread issue that is
common throughout the households of not just Australia but the rest of the world. Throughout
biblical scripture it is evident that domestic violence starkly opposes God's plan for families and this
is particularly seen in Genesis 1 and 2 which depict marriage as a one–flesh, helping relationship and
Ephesians 5:21 talks about mutual submission. (Got Questions Ministries, n.d.). Furthermore, Verses
25–33 talk about a husband's self–sacrificial love for his wife which is further supported by First
Peter 3:1–7 as it gives similar instructions (Got Questions Ministries, n.d.). Additionally, First
Corinthian 7:4 states "The...show more content...
Throughout the article Julia draws a causal link between Christian views on marriage and domestic
violence in which she blames Christians practice and beliefs for this social evil. Initially, it seems
she has a watertight case as she brings to our attention pastors who supposedly promote and
condone abuse in the line "Reverend Peter Catt... says: "I have heard pastors...tell people...that they
have to stay in situations of abuse because they are under the headship of the male." However, Julia
has only found church leaders who make claims about situations they have heard with no details or
names. Even the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney, Glenn Davies, who Julia stresses "is known for its
emphasis on headship", says that "headship is not domination" and "if a woman's life is in danger
she should leave, even though that would mean 'disobeying her husband'". This is evidence hardly
supports Julia's argument about endorsement of male dominance and domestic violence by the

Rhetorical Analysis Of A Call To Arms
Rikki Keeton Mr. Carver ENG 100 2 September 2017 Formation by BeyoncГ©: A Call To Arms
When we think of the South today, we think of a place so deeply embedded in its country roots that
its very existence is piggybacked onto the well–known topics of police brutality, racism, religion,
black culture, and in some cases, the argument of New Orleans and hurricane Katrina. However, as
"White" America continues to weed out and denounce Black culture and Black Lives, more and
more movements have risen up to take action. The Black Lives Matter organization is a liberation
movement originally from the South, focused on working towards a world where African Americans
are "no longer systematically or intentionally targeted for demise." Recent...show more content...
The drowning police car and its crooked sirens demonstrate the government's failure to protect its
black citizens of New Orleans, but not only during Katrina. Messy Mya was a New Orleans native
and first–hand victim of systematic inequality when he was gunned down and killed in 2010: He
asks during the images of Bey and the police car, "What happened at the New Wil'ins?" By
forcing the audience to sit and think about what tragedies have occurred in New Orleans, across
all timelines, and how they have been handled by American Society, Bey wants the audience to
get angry and instigate the need for change and justice. She holds these tragedies responsible for
the song "Formation", and the need for "a new era of activism addressing the systemic inequality
and racism that still exists in the United States." Milch, Elizabeth (Genius) This "era of activism"
is catalyzed through BeyoncГ© when she symbolizes herself as the "Christ" of this movement,
therefore embodying a call to action. Presented during various moments of the video is this
iconic symbol of BeyoncГ© with her arms out away from her, as if she's making a cross. One of

Persuasive Essay On The Art Of Art
Art declares many things. It's a way for people to articulate their views, express their emotions, and
communicate to the world in a way that gives them creative release. This ability to exhibit one's
views in a imaginative and safe manner is exceptionally important to society's growth, and to border
this freedom to articulate is detrimental. Art should not be hidden and concealed permanently from
the public eye because some see it as vulgar due to the fact that many people have varying
definitions as to what is crossing the line. Only certain, obvious things can be noted as truly indecent.
Censorship is not an easy subject. As an artist, there is often a lot of tolerance for the obscene,
from appreciation to detail on the human figure or the unique renditions of animalistic
interaction. However, the majority of the public might find the same things that the artists see as
a unique interpretation as vulgar. It is easy to see that such a standpoint must be taken into more
consideration, as the point of indecency can differ greatly for a conservative Christian compared
to a liberal atheist. The two images of what each group considers unseemly would most likely
range in their obscenity, and so it would be difficult to put a line where one should be crossed. "If
an image offends very many people, sooner or later someone will invoke the law, and along with
it judges, legislators, policymakers, and the police," quotes Melinda Hinkson in Australia's Bill
Henson scandal: notes on the new cultural attitude to images. Here we have a majority rule, where
an image should only have action dealt upon it if enough people want change. Such censorship is
easy to determine when there are pieces depicting derogatory themes, such as child pornography or
racial notions. But there are multiple cases where there are two sides of the story, and it is not as
simple.
A statue named Truth is Beauty by Marco Cochrane has recently been constructed in the city of San
Leandro, here in the bay area. This statue depicts a nude woman dancing, her body semi–geometric,
and although you can not vividly see the all of the womans body parts, it is not difficult to know
that she is supposed to be depicted as naked. A completely naked figure,

Persuasive Essay On Deforestation
I take a deep breath, opening my lungs to the fresh air that engulfs me. It appears that I am in a
scene that could only be described as a slice of heaven. As I look around the ground is illuminated
by small slivers of sunlight that squeeze their way through the canopy. Luscious greens plastered
everywhere I look, glimpses of color catch my eye. While I close my eyes I can hear the sounds of
birds chirping and the noise as squirrels scamper across the forest floor. However decades of greed
and little care for the environment has led to the downfall of the majestic forests, an essential part
of a healthy ecosystem. If we allow our patterns of carelessness to continue, the forests will be
damaged beyond repair. Stories such as "The Lorax" will become more than just childhood fiction.
Our damage to the forests is incredibly upsetting considering that they are a necessity of life for both
humans and millions of plant and animal species. Action needs to be taken to at least reduce the
amount of forests that we destroy or put more effort into conservation and afforestation. Take a
second before you protest this "tree hugger" mentality to consider the damage from deforestation.
These events call to question how deforestation affect the environment and native species? To
fully understand the question, you must first understand the problem. Deforestation is the
removal of trees from a certain area. There are many reasons for deforestation; one of the most
popular excuses is that the land is needed to support livestock or to cultivate crops. However these
are on smaller scales, small farms will cut down trees near them. On a larger scale, logging
companies will clear cut areas for timber to sell or to clear land for development. According to
Justin Worland of Time Magazine, people cut down approximately 15 billion trees a year, this has
caused the tree population to fall 46% since the beginning of human civilization. The world's forests
cannot continue this pattern of destruction.
Amazon Rainforest
One of the most iconic forests the Amazon Rainforest is taking a major hit from deforestation. "If the
Amazon rainforest was a country, it would rank 9th in size."(Amazon Rainforest Facts) Sadly,
researchers from NASA have

Persuasive Essay On Daylight Saving
Daylight saving can be good for the environment, Because of the less amount of the pollution
being created by power plants, But there is a problem when it comes to daylight saving, the
major problem is how it will affect people's lives on a daily basis who work daytime jobs and
children who have to go to school ? Daylight saving effects would be strong but the effects can be
diminished, simply by setting the time daylight savings takes place to a time when the sun is up
and it can be safe to walk to school or work for people, and now it's safer for people and better for
the environment and its resources.
In times of needs daylight savings had played a big role to save fuel consumption during World
War 1 and World War 2, According to Text 1 on Daylight Saving Times, it states that daylight
savings was used to "Minimize the use of artificial light in order to save fuel for the war effort
during World War 1" (11 to 13). I believe that daylight saving is beneficial when it comes to war and
times of needs similar to the Text 1, but I still question, should daylight saving be applied year
round? My answer is no because it still affects the daily lives of people even if it saves energy,
daylight saving should only be used in times of needs like in war or in harsh economic situations
and not applied on part of a daily life. The benefits of daylight savings are not only to save resources
but to benefit our bodies according to Text 2 onDaylight Saving Time it states that "An

Persuasive Speech on Global Warming Essay
PERSUASIVE SPEECH ON GLOBAL WARMING by: Jennifer Zelmer
Introduction: We all know about global warming, but do we really care or try to do at least some
of the things that will help stop it or at least slow it down?
1) Over the last century our planets temp. has risen 1 degree. I know that doesn't sound like much
but it's been enough to melt a lot of the polar ice caps and glaciers. A) The hottest years ever
recorded were in the late 1990's and early 2000's. B) In 2007 there was a massive polar ice melt and
the amount of glaciers and sea ice has decreased quite a bit since the 70's. This has already caused
the sea levels to rise. C) The U.N. panel on climate change projects that by the end of this...show

C) And of course we can't forget the three R's. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Only buy what you
need , ruse whatever you can, like containers and paper, and recycle what you cannot reuse. It's
really as simple as that.
4) Th extra heat our homes produce also adversely affects the planet. A) By sealing and insulating
our homes better we can help stop that and save money on our energy bills. B) Also instead of
turning up the heat when your cold, put on an extra layer of clothes. Again you'll be saving
energy and money. C) If at all possible, use solar energy. After all it's free, all you have to do is
buy the equipment. And you would be helping to ensure that our ancestors still have a planet to live
on. D) Finally, by turning off unused power sources such as tv's and computers, again you will be
helping the environment as well as saving money on energy bills.
Conclusion: If we all would do as many things that we possibly can to help reduce greenhouse
gasses in our atmosphere, we would all be doing a great thing by helping to ensure that our
grand–kids and theirs will still have this beautiful planet to live on and enjoy. Thank

Name Calling Persuasive Speech
Have you ever been bullied before? Have you ever been called a name? Well, at J.R. Gerrits
school, this happens a lot. Lots of people call other people names. If you don't know what name
calling is, it's where someone calls another person a mean name or a name besides their own. And
this doesn't just happen a couple of times per year, it happens daily and it happens for a reason.
Usually happens because the name caller is going through a tough time, meaning they are
struggling in life, or they just want to do it to be cool or funny. Do you know what name calling
is? Like I said before, name calling is where someone calls another person a mean name or a name
besides their own. That happens a lot a J.R.G. Weather its 7th/8th graders or boys/girls, it happens
at J.R.G. This also happens a lot at J.R.G. In fact, about 7 out of 10 people surveyed, 66%, are
affected by name calling at J.R.G. But only about 35 people were surveyed. If that number is true
for the whole school, that means that 480 students at J.R.G are affected by name calling. Now, that
is a lot. Also, did you know that an estimated 54 million Americans have been name called at some
point in their lives? That is a humongous number, in fact, it's about the same as the total populations
of California and Florida. Just think about that. That would mean that every kid at J.R Gerritts
middle school would get name called in their lifetime. This is unexplainably bad for our generation.
Along with that, there are negative

Persuasive Essay On Prison Reform
Today, it seems almost incomprehensible that so many people with serious mental illnesses reside
in prisons instead of receiving treatment. Over a century and a half ago, reform advocates like
Dorothea Dix campaigned for prison reform, urging lawmakers to house the mentally ill in hospitals
rather than in prisons. The efforts undertaken by Dix and other like–minded reformers were
successful: from around 1870 to 1970, most of the United States' mentally ill population was housed
in hospitals rather than in prisons. Considering reformers made great strides in improving this
situation over a century and a half ago. Granted, mental hospitals in the late 19th and early 20th
century were often badly run and critically flawed, but rather than pushing for reform of these
hospitals, many politicians lobbied for them to close their doors, switching instead to a
community–based system for treating the mentally ill. Although deinstitutionalization was originally
understood as a humane way to offer more suitable services to the mentally ill in community–based
settings, some politicians seized upon it as a way to save money by shutting down institutions
without providing any meaningful treatment alternatives. This callousness has created a one–way
road to prison for massive numbers of impaired individuals and the inhumane warehousing of
thousands of mentally ill people. Nevertheless, there are things that can be done to lower the rate
mentally ill persons are being incarcerated. Such

presents themselves and other non–Negro citizens in a favorable light by suggesting that they have
"expressed understanding" (Carpenter et al. 1) and been "responsible citizens" (2). Negro citizens,
however, are presented as opposition determined to undermine the "principles of law and order and
common sense" (2) through the use of public demonstrations. This essay will explore the various
persuasive devices used by Carpenter et al.. to determine how important they are in creating a
successful and convincing argument.

Similarly, Carpenter et al.'s overall argument is a logos appeal that reads "A cause should be
pressed in the courts and in negotiations among local leaders, and not in the streets." (4) This
statement appeals to the reader's sense of logic and reason and is effective because it is a logical
appeal that cannot be refuted.
As you can see, from the opening of the letter, Carpenter et al. present a successful persuasive
argument through the use of rhetorical appeals. They continue to use a mixture of rhetorical
appeals and value/policy claims throughout the letter, which ultimately allows them to make a very
successful and persuasive piece of writing. However, I feel that Carpenter et al.'s most successful
appeals are those that combine or contain a mixture of both ethos and logos appeals. For example,
they state "We recognize the natural impatience of people who feel that their hopes are slow in
being realized. But we are convinced that these demonstrations are unwise and untimely" (2). This
statement shows both an understanding and respect for other people's points of view, and although
it is debatable as to whether they sincerely believed this or not, this statement contributes
considerably to their ethos appeal and also presents a believable appeal (logos). The combined ethos
and logical appeal increase their credibility as authors and allows them to instill

Persuasive Speech For Raising Minimum Wage
Raising Minimum Wage
Specific Purpose: I want my audience to understand why the minimum wage must be raised.
Introduction
I. How many of you can actually say you are paid what you are worth at your current job? Or if
you're not working, at the last job you had?
II. I am almost sure that not a single person sitting here would say no to getting paid more. Is this
true?
III. As a college student and minimum wage worker, I became interested in finding out why working
a full–time job still made it extremely difficult to pay my college tuition and personal expenses. After
thorough research, I found that the answer was minimum wage.
IV. Today I will be speaking about the problems with the established minimum wage and the benefits
of raising it.
Body
I. First, I will address issues with the current minimum wage.
A. One problem with the minimum wage is that it is not high enough to allow people to afford
housing.
1. According to an article from the National Low Income Housing Coalition, an organization
advocating for affordable housing, to afford a two bedroom house in Florida, an individual must
work 102 hours per week.
2. Now let's say you want to live alone in a single bedroom house. They state that at the current
minimum wage, a person must work two full time jobs to be able to afford it.
3. The National Low Income Housing Coalition also states that people living in West Palm Beach,
the second most expensive Floridian city with respect to housing, must earn $26.35 per hour, work
forty hours a week, fifty–two weeks per year, to afford a two bedroom home. That number is about
three times more than Florida's current minimum wage of $8.10.
B. Another problem with the minimum wage is that it is not high enough to allow people to afford
every day essentials.
1. Housing costs is only one part of what an individual must worry about, other expenses must also
be accounted for. In a survey by Oxfam America, a global organization to end the injustice of
poverty, sixty–six percent of US workers earning less than $10 an hour report a difficulty in
allocating the money to pay for basic necessities such as food.
2. A livable wage covers expenses such as food, clothing, transportation, and healthcare, and child
care. In a 2015

Call To Action Persuasive Essay

  • 1. Effective Communication is vital in health and social care context. It enables us to develop good relationships with the service users and to anyone that is involved within health and social care organisation (Grove, 2012). As a new care worker, I was asked to shadow my co–worker at work. The service user is Mrs. M., a 60–yr. old female diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy (MD), she gets easily frustrated and anxious due to her difficulty in communicating verbally. Though I was slightly nervous, I was relaxed and has a smile on my face when I knock on her door. I said, "Good evening, Ms. M, may I come in?" I waited for her reply. She looked at me, smiled and nodded. So, I went inside and said, "Thank you". In this scenario, I applied the humanistic theory based on Carl Roger's Person–Centred Approached (1902–1987) that states that having an environment that provides substance, acceptance and empathy helps the person to reach their true potentials (Rogers, 1977). My role as a care worker is to engage in a manner that promotes individual respect (Alzheimer's Society, 2011). The benefits of this method are clear through the polite and professional conversation I had with the service user. Mrs. M felt empowered when the manner of communication we had given her the feeling of being in controlled of her environment. When I introduced myself to Mrs. M, I applied the 'communication cycle' theory developed by sociologist Michael Argyle (1972), it is where the individual Get more content on HelpWriting.net

It is often joked about amongst schoolmates and co–workers around the world. Nothing seems to get done until it absolutely needs to get done, then everyone runs around getting things done quickly and often times inaccurately. The trouble with this mentality however is that some things will never get done because something will come up tomorrow or the next day and what you are putting off now gets pushed even further back. Today I will persuade you to stop this habit from continuing. I will be explaining the problems we face when dealing with procrastination as well as how to deal with it and actions you can take to prevent it in the future. Transition: It is in our human nature to procrastinate, some of us do it more than others but learning about this problem and understanding how it can effect you can be beneficial to everyone II.Need(the Problem): According to an article from Psychology Today, "20 percent of people chronically avoid difficult tasks and deliberately look for distractions" (2) and According to recent research "Procrastination has more than quadrupled in the last 30 Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Persuasive Speech On Blood Donations Donating Blood Just imagine if one of your brothers or sisters was born with a heart defect and had to have daily transfusions of blood in order to have a chance of survival. Unfortunately, things happen like this everyday and some of you may have experienced them already. In this essay I am going to persuade you to become a blood donor. I try to donate blood every two months or so because it makes me feel like I am doing something good and saving people's lives. Do you know that 95% of all Americans will need a blood transfusion sometime in our lives (Red Cross web site)? That statistic means that there is a possibility that you, and your family and friends could need support from volunteer blood donors. In this essay I will discuss the need for blood donations, solutions that can increase blood donations, and actions that need to be taken to increase blood donations. The need for blood is growing more everyday while the numbers of donors is decreasing. Sickle cell disease affects more than 70,000 people in the U.S. About 1,000 babies are born with the disease each year. Sickle cell patients can require frequent blood transfusions throughout their lives (RedCrossBlood.org). According to the Red Cross blood website 41,000 pints of blood are needed every single day, and they need us to make that possible. Donating blood is a safe process that is done with a sterile needle used only one time for each donor. There is a four–step process to donating blood. Unfortunately, domestic violence is a widespread issue that is common throughout the households of not just Australia but the rest of the world. Throughout biblical scripture it is evident that domestic violence starkly opposes God's plan for families and this is particularly seen in Genesis 1 and 2 which depict marriage as a one–flesh, helping relationship and Ephesians 5:21 talks about mutual submission. (Got Questions Ministries, n.d.). Furthermore, Verses 25–33 talk about a husband's self–sacrificial love for his wife which is further supported by First Peter 3:1–7 as it gives similar instructions (Got Questions Ministries, n.d.). Additionally, First Corinthian 7:4 states "The...show more content... Throughout the article Julia draws a causal link between Christian views on marriage and domestic violence in which she blames Christians practice and beliefs for this social evil. Initially, it seems she has a watertight case as she brings to our attention pastors who supposedly promote and condone abuse in the line "Reverend Peter Catt... says: "I have heard pastors...tell people...that they have to stay in situations of abuse because they are under the headship of the male." However, Julia has only found church leaders who make claims about situations they have heard with no details or names. Even the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney, Glenn Davies, who Julia stresses "is known for its emphasis on headship", says that "headship is not domination" and "if a woman's life is in danger she should leave, even though that would mean 'disobeying her husband'". Rhetorical Analysis Of A Call To Arms Rikki Keeton Mr. Carver ENG 100 2 September 2017 Formation by BeyoncГ©: A Call To Arms When we think of the South today, we think of a place so deeply embedded in its country roots that its very existence is piggybacked onto the well–known topics of police brutality, racism, religion, black culture, and in some cases, the argument of New Orleans and hurricane Katrina. However, as "White" America continues to weed out and denounce Black culture and Black Lives, more and more movements have risen up to take action. Messy Mya was a New Orleans native and first–hand victim of systematic inequality when he was gunned down and killed in 2010: He asks during the images of Bey and the police car, "What happened at the New Wil'ins?" By forcing the audience to sit and think about what tragedies have occurred in New Orleans, across all timelines, and how they have been handled by American Society, Bey wants the audience to get angry and instigate the need for change and justice. She holds these tragedies responsible for the song "Formation", and the need for "a new era of activism addressing the systemic inequality and racism that still exists in the United States." • 9. Persuasive Essay On The Art Of Art Art declares many things. It's a way for people to articulate their views, express their emotions, and communicate to the world in a way that gives them creative release. This ability to exhibit one's views in a imaginative and safe manner is exceptionally important to society's growth, and to border this freedom to articulate is detrimental. Art should not be hidden and concealed permanently from the public eye because some see it as vulgar due to the fact that many people have varying definitions as to what is crossing the line. Only certain, obvious things can be noted as truly indecent. Censorship is not an easy subject. As an artist, there is often a lot of tolerance for the obscene, from appreciation to detail on the human figure or the unique renditions of animalistic interaction. However, the majority of the public might find the same things that the artists see as a unique interpretation as vulgar. It is easy to see that such a standpoint must be taken into more consideration, as the point of indecency can differ greatly for a conservative Christian compared to a liberal atheist. The two images of what each group considers unseemly would most likely range in their obscenity, and so it would be difficult to put a line where one should be crossed. "If an image offends very many people, sooner or later someone will invoke the law, and along with it judges, legislators, policymakers, and the police," quotes Melinda Hinkson in Australia's Bill Henson scandal: notes on the new cultural attitude to images. Here we have a majority rule, where an image should only have action dealt upon it if enough people want change. Such censorship is easy to determine when there are pieces depicting derogatory themes, such as child pornography or racial notions. But there are multiple cases where there are two sides of the story, and it is not as simple. A statue named Truth is Beauty by Marco Cochrane has recently been constructed in the city of San Leandro, here in the bay area. This statue depicts a nude woman dancing, her body semi–geometric, and although you can not vividly see the all of the womans body parts, it is not difficult to know that she is supposed to be depicted as naked. • 10. Persuasive Essay On Deforestation I take a deep breath, opening my lungs to the fresh air that engulfs me. It appears that I am in a scene that could only be described as a slice of heaven. As I look around the ground is illuminated by small slivers of sunlight that squeeze their way through the canopy. Luscious greens plastered everywhere I look, glimpses of color catch my eye. While I close my eyes I can hear the sounds of birds chirping and the noise as squirrels scamper across the forest floor. However decades of greed and little care for the environment has led to the downfall of the majestic forests, an essential part of a healthy ecosystem. If we allow our patterns of carelessness to continue, the forests will be damaged beyond repair. Stories such as "The Lorax" will become more than just childhood fiction. Our damage to the forests is incredibly upsetting considering that they are a necessity of life for both humans and millions of plant and animal species. Action needs to be taken to at least reduce the amount of forests that we destroy or put more effort into conservation and afforestation. Take a second before you protest this "tree hugger" mentality to consider the damage from deforestation. These events call to question how deforestation affect the environment and native species? To fully understand the question, you must first understand the problem. Deforestation is the removal of trees from a certain area. There are many reasons for deforestation; one of the most popular excuses is that the land is needed to support livestock or to cultivate crops. However these are on smaller scales, small farms will cut down trees near them. On a larger scale, logging companies will clear cut areas for timber to sell or to clear land for development. According to Justin Worland of Time Magazine, people cut down approximately 15 billion trees a year, this has caused the tree population to fall 46% since the beginning of human civilization. The world's forests cannot continue this pattern of destruction. Amazon Rainforest One of the most iconic forests the Amazon Rainforest is taking a major hit from deforestation. "If the Amazon rainforest was a country, it would rank 9th in size."(Amazon Rainforest Facts) Sadly, researchers from NASA have Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Persuasive Essay On Daylight Saving Daylight saving can be good for the environment, Because of the less amount of the pollution being created by power plants, But there is a problem when it comes to daylight saving, the major problem is how it will affect people's lives on a daily basis who work daytime jobs and children who have to go to school ? Daylight saving effects would be strong but the effects can be diminished, simply by setting the time daylight savings takes place to a time when the sun is up and it can be safe to walk to school or work for people, and now it's safer for people and better for the environment and its resources. In times of needs daylight savings had played a big role to save fuel consumption during World War 1 and World War 2, According to Text 1 on Daylight Saving Times, it states that daylight savings was used to "Minimize the use of artificial light in order to save fuel for the war effort during World War 1" (11 to 13). I believe that daylight saving is beneficial when it comes to war and times of needs similar to the Text 1, but I still question, should daylight saving be applied year round? My answer is no because it still affects the daily lives of people even if it saves energy, daylight saving should only be used in times of needs like in war or in harsh economic situations and not applied on part of a daily life. The benefits of daylight savings are not only to save resources but to benefit our bodies according to Text 2 onDaylight Saving Time it states that "An Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Persuasive Speech on Global Warming Essay PERSUASIVE SPEECH ON GLOBAL WARMING by: Jennifer Zelmer Introduction: We all know about global warming, but do we really care or try to do at least some of the things that will help stop it or at least slow it down? 1) Over the last century our planets temp. has risen 1 degree. I know that doesn't sound like much but it's been enough to melt a lot of the polar ice caps and glaciers. A) The hottest years ever recorded were in the late 1990's and early 2000's. B) In 2007 there was a massive polar ice melt and the amount of glaciers and sea ice has decreased quite a bit since the 70's. This has already caused the sea levels to rise. A) By sealing and insulating our homes better we can help stop that and save money on our energy bills. B) Also instead of turning up the heat when your cold, put on an extra layer of clothes. Again you'll be saving energy and money. C) If at all possible, use solar energy. After all it's free, all you have to do is buy the equipment. And you would be helping to ensure that our ancestors still have a planet to live on. D) Finally, by turning off unused power sources such as tv's and computers, again you will be helping the environment as well as saving money on energy bills. Conclusion: If we all would do as many things that we possibly can to help reduce greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere, we would all be doing a great thing by helping to ensure that our grand–kids and theirs will still have this beautiful planet to live on and enjoy. • 14. Name Calling Persuasive Speech Have you ever been bullied before? Have you ever been called a name? Well, at J.R. Gerrits school, this happens a lot. Lots of people call other people names. If you don't know what name calling is, it's where someone calls another person a mean name or a name besides their own. And this doesn't just happen a couple of times per year, it happens daily and it happens for a reason. Usually happens because the name caller is going through a tough time, meaning they are struggling in life, or they just want to do it to be cool or funny. Do you know what name calling is? Like I said before, name calling is where someone calls another person a mean name or a name besides their own. That happens a lot a J.R.G. Weather its 7th/8th graders or boys/girls, it happens at J.R.G. This also happens a lot at J.R.G. In fact, about 7 out of 10 people surveyed, 66%, are affected by name calling at J.R.G. But only about 35 people were surveyed. If that number is true for the whole school, that means that 480 students at J.R.G are affected by name calling. Now, that is a lot. Also, did you know that an estimated 54 million Americans have been name called at some point in their lives? That is a humongous number, in fact, it's about the same as the total populations of California and Florida. Just think about that. That would mean that every kid at J.R Gerritts middle school would get name called in their lifetime. This is unexplainably bad for our generation. Along with that, there are negative Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Persuasive Essay On Prison Reform Today, it seems almost incomprehensible that so many people with serious mental illnesses reside in prisons instead of receiving treatment. Over a century and a half ago, reform advocates like Dorothea Dix campaigned for prison reform, urging lawmakers to house the mentally ill in hospitals rather than in prisons. The efforts undertaken by Dix and other like–minded reformers were successful: from around 1870 to 1970, most of the United States' mentally ill population was housed in hospitals rather than in prisons. Considering reformers made great strides in improving this situation over a century and a half ago. Granted, mental hospitals in the late 19th and early 20th century were often badly run and critically flawed, but rather than pushing for reform of these hospitals, many politicians lobbied for them to close their doors, switching instead to a community–based system for treating the mentally ill. Although deinstitutionalization was originally understood as a humane way to offer more suitable services to the mentally ill in community–based settings, some politicians seized upon it as a way to save money by shutting down institutions without providing any meaningful treatment alternatives. This callousness has created a one–way road to prison for massive numbers of impaired individuals and the inhumane warehousing of thousands of mentally ill people. Nevertheless, there are things that can be done to lower the rate mentally ill persons are being incarcerated. Such Get more content on HelpWriting.net

David ******* English 101–B 14 March 2004 A Call to Action: Regulate Use of Cell Phones on the Road When a cell phone goes off in a classroom or at a concert, we are irritated, but at least our lives are not endangered. When we are on the road, however, irresponsible cell phone users are more than irritating: They are putting our lives at risk. Many of us have witnessed drivers so distracted by dialing and chatting that they resemble drunk drivers, weaving between lanes, for example, or nearly running down pedestrians in crosswalks. A number of bills to regulate use of cell phones on the road have been introduced in state legislatures, and the time has come to push for their passage. I was 17 years old at the time and I have a fiery competitive spirit so I decided to join the trivia team at my high school. When I pursue to walk into our first meeting as a team it is an awkward silence in the room. I thought to myself Christian why did you do this you, you don't belong here and they don't want you here. The shaky cough of our brain game coach to announce the start of the meeting made me want to put my hood on and hide. He gives the instruction to when are first match is I feel the cold stares of my soon to be teammates eyes focused on me the whole time. • 19. Persuasive Speech Outline YOU SHOULD SLEEP FOR 8 HOURS Proposition: To persuade the audience to sleep for 8 hours Introduction (Attention Getter) Do you have ever thought that why you feel dizzy even when you take a sleep of up to 6 hours? Why you cannot concentrate at your workplace, or cannot perform your academic activities as you want them to be? Why you often feel sleepy while the lecture is being delivered? Why even after a sleep of 6 hours, you do not feel fresh and vigilant? (Proposition of the policy)Yes indeed, it's nothing but the lack of a full 8 hours night sleep which you should take. (Common ground with audience) I myself as a student know how hard it is to prepare for the exam the whole night by taking very less or not a sleep at all. But the situation gets worst when during the exam, big sessions of naps takes place or the concentration is fully exploited. (Ethos/Credibility) I've made a huge research upon this issue and find out that a sleep of a minimum of 8 hours is extremely necessary, no matter one belong to which stage of life and work at anywhere. (Preview of main points) Today I am going to tell you that you should have a 8 hours sleep daily at nights so that you may have a better health, a fresh and motivated feeling and improvement in body and skin appearance. Body I. The first reason why you should sleep for 8 hours is because it has positive effects on your concentration and reduces mood disorders. Negro citizens, however, are presented as opposition determined to undermine the "principles of law and order and common sense" (2) through the use of public demonstrations. Similarly, Carpenter et al.'s overall argument is a logos appeal that reads "A cause should be pressed in the courts and in negotiations among local leaders, and not in the streets." (4) This statement appeals to the reader's sense of logic and reason and is effective because it is a logical appeal that cannot be refuted. As you can see, from the opening of the letter, Carpenter et al. present a successful persuasive argument through the use of rhetorical appeals. They continue to use a mixture of rhetorical appeals and value/policy claims throughout the letter, which ultimately allows them to make a very successful and persuasive piece of writing. However, I feel that Carpenter et al.'s most successful appeals are those that combine or contain a mixture of both ethos and logos appeals. For example, they state "We recognize the natural impatience of people who feel that their hopes are slow in being realized. But we are convinced that these demonstrations are unwise and untimely" (2). This statement shows both an understanding and respect for other people's points of view, and although it is debatable as to whether they sincerely believed this or not, this statement contributes considerably to their ethos appeal and also presents a believable appeal (logos). The combined ethos and logical appeal increase their credibility as authors and allows them to instill Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 21. Persuasive Speech For Raising Minimum Wage Raising Minimum Wage Specific Purpose: I want my audience to understand why the minimum wage must be raised. Introduction I. How many of you can actually say you are paid what you are worth at your current job? Or if you're not working, at the last job you had? II. I am almost sure that not a single person sitting here would say no to getting paid more. Is this true? III. As a college student and minimum wage worker, I became interested in finding out why working a full–time job still made it extremely difficult to pay my college tuition and personal expenses. After thorough research, I found that the answer was minimum wage. IV. Today I will be speaking about the problems with the established minimum wage and the benefits of raising it. Body I. First, I will address issues with the current minimum wage. A. One problem with the minimum wage is that it is not high enough to allow people to afford housing. 1. According to an article from the National Low Income Housing Coalition, an organization advocating for affordable housing, to afford a two bedroom house in Florida, an individual must work 102 hours per week. 2. Now let's say you want to live alone in a single bedroom house. They state that at the current minimum wage, a person must work two full time jobs to be able to afford it. 3. The National Low Income Housing Coalition also states that people living in West Palm Beach, the second most expensive Floridian city with respect to housing, must earn $26.35 per hour, work forty hours a week, fifty–two weeks per year, to afford a two bedroom home. That number is about three times more than Florida's current minimum wage of $8.10. B. Another problem with the minimum wage is that it is not high enough to allow people to afford every day essentials. 1. Housing costs is only one part of what an individual must worry about, other expenses must also be accounted for. In a survey by Oxfam America, a global organization to end the injustice of poverty, sixty–six percent of US workers earning less than $10 an hour report a difficulty in allocating the money to pay for basic necessities such as food. 2. A livable wage covers expenses such as food, clothing, transportation, and healthcare, and child care. In a 2015 Get more content on HelpWriting.net
