Dislocations of primary THR´s in Denmark

INTRODUCTION: Dislocation of THR is registered with a great variance in different publications. The Nordic countries has a unique possibility to register and follow patients due to their social security number and the registration in the LPR (Lands Patient Registret). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Data from DHR, in which there is registered THR performed in Denmark since 1995. From 2001 and forward LPR has registered the laterality for all operations. Because of this it is possible from 2001 and forward to do simultaneous registrations of the LPR and DHR. This has been done in the period 2001-2003. RESULTS: During the period 1.1.01 to 31.12.03 there have been registered 18.289 primary THR´s in the DHR. In the LPR there has been registered 18.007 primary THR´s. 15.722 was registered in both registries and with the same laterality for the operation. 2285 THR´s was registered in LPR but not in DHR. In DHR was 2650 but these were not present in LPR. 929 of these THR´s were performed in private hospitals and clinics and from these institutions registration was not mandatory to LPR. Out of the 15.722 primary THR´s 589 patients had experienced a dislocation from 1 to 11 times. The total number of dislocations was 1165. The dislocation rate for the first dislocation was 3.80%, and no difference was seen for male and females. As expected the dislocations rate for the lateral approach was lower (1.79%) than for the posterior (4.00%). CONCLUSION: We have registered a discrepancy for the two national Registries LPR and DHR for the registration of primary THR and also for the number of dislocations for the primary THR. The dislocation rate in this study does not differ much from the general rates known from several publications. The dislocation rate for the lateral approach was as expected lower than for the posterior approach.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server

This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
