The Calhoun County Beautification Board recognized several award winners in 2014 for their work beautifying properties. The City of Anniston received an award for meticulously maintaining the Quintard Avenue Median with willow oaks. Individual award winners included residents of Alexandria, Anniston, Jacksonville, and Weaver who maintained landscaping at their homes. The Classic at Buckhorn assisted area beautification in Weaver. The Board thanked all winners for helping make Calhoun County beautiful.

The Helping Angels organization visited pensioners in Brooklyn, South Africa to distribute food parcels to 50 needy pensioners who were struggling financially. The pensioners received only R1010 per month in pension payments, with rental costs starting at R530, leaving them with little money for other expenses. Volunteers handed out food and gave hugs to residents like Auntie Carol. They also cleaned one man's apartment after he was found without shoes. The event brought happiness to volunteers and residents, and was made possible by various sponsors and donations.

Studio City Beautification Association
The Studio City Beautification Association (SCBA) is a 501c3 non-profit founded in 1983 that works with the community and city departments to beautify public spaces in Studio City. Run entirely by volunteers, the SCBA adopts weed-infested areas, budgets projects, installs and maintains landscaping, collaborates with partners, and fundraises to transform eyesores into beautiful community areas. Recent projects include planting trees, medians, libraries, and creating gardens.

What Is Financial Exploitation

Let’s talk about powerful conversations! We all know how to lead a constructive conversation, right? Then why is it so difficult to have those conversations with people at work, especially those in powerful positions that show resistance to change?
Learning to control and direct conversations takes understanding and practice.
We can combine our innate empathy with our analytical skills to gain a deeper understanding of complex situations at work. Join this session to learn how to prepare for difficult conversations and how to improve our agile conversations in order to be more influential without power. We will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
In the session you will experience how preparing and reflecting on your conversation can help you be more influential at work. You will learn how to communicate more effectively with the people needed to achieve positive change. You will leave with a self-revised version of a difficult conversation and a practical model to use when you get back to work.
