Cagliari is one of the oldest towns in the Mediterranean, dating back over 3,000 years. It has been ruled by various groups throughout history, including the Phoenicians, Romans, Pisans, and Aragonese. In 1718, Cagliari came under the control of the Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont. Today, Cagliari has rebuilt and expanded since being bombed in World War 2, with historical districts like Castello and Villanova now receiving many foreigners.
