This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Which platform is most appropriate for your classroom? Explainwhich
platform you have chosenand why.
The platform that we, Monroe County SchoolDistrict, have chosenas the perfect
fit for our students are the Chrome/Google Apps. This platform was chosen
because Google Classroom allows teachers and students to stay connected and
increase student achievement. It is a free web-based platform and all students have
a personalized email address and access to several Google Apps such as Google
Docs, Google Slides, and Google Calendar. This method was also chosen because
students are time and paper are saved and it is easier to distribute assignments,
communicate, and stay organized. Students also have the opportunity to track their
progress on any technical device. Classwork and homework can be provided here
and teachers can quickly see who has completed their assignment versus who did
2. not and provide adequate feedback. I love this component becausefeedback can be
given quickly and students can reply back.
Describe how you will accommodate students who do not have their own
devices.
When it is a BYOD day in the classroom and a student(s) do not have their own
device, I always observe the schoolset of IPads several days before the lesson so
that all students have access to technology. If the IPads are not available for me to
use, there is a technology lab on each hall. I will observethe technology lab and I
conductclass in the lab. A lot of the students have access to either a cellphone,
tablet, or laptop, but, all students are given supportif they do not.
Identify how you will group students (individual, partners, teams) when you
are using the devices.
Grouping depends primarily on the assignment or project. Usually when students
are completing classwork assignments for a grade, it is individualized. Every
schoolyear in the first few weeks, I will assign work on Google Classroom just to
see how tech savvy each student is. If I notice that a student has several questions
or concerns with the assignment even with precise instructions, I will assign them a
partner. With this however, I will make sure that the other student will not become
overwhelmed with going slower and assisting another student. All students should
be able to complete their work without feeling responsible for another student. I
assign partners and teams for projects mostly. In teams, the students can learn how
to share and edit several documentations with each other and also develop outlines.
Appropriate Apps for Sixth Grade Mathematics (ALL FREE!)
1) BrainPOP:This is an awesome app that provides mini animated movies that
are presented in a conversational style for students to understand best. After
watching the movie, the student can assess themselves with a quick quiz. I
was ecstatic to see that this app is available in Spanish and French! Perfect
for ELL students! The only downside is that every video is not free. Because
of this most schooldistricts have bought the subscriptions so that everyone
can enjoy free of charge! This app can also be used as an alternative for
3. homework (as long as all students have access), and student can screenshot
their scores!
2) Google Drive:This app allows students to have their files accessible for
viewing from any technical device including video and photo files. Students
can allow others to view, edit, or leave comments and viewing is available
offline! This app is also offered in multiple languages.
3) ElevatedMath: Awesome app that can be used for introduction or
intervention/enrichment. It goes from place value to nine grade Algebra.
Each topic comes with two lessons and a career video. If the student would
like, they can even print tests, worksheets, notes, and other resources. The
engagement is increased with the animated resources and students are able to
move through at their own pace. A whiteboard is given to work out math
problems and it is Common Core based. The career videos mentioned above
show students how mathematics are used in several careers suchas pilots,
engineers, and animators. The app is given in English and German and can
only be used on Apple devices which would be the only downside.
4) Mental Math Cards: This app really came in handy this year because one
of the goals for sixth grade mathematics is that all students become more
fluent in their multiplication and division facts. The app comes with tips,
practice question sets, and games! Aside from the basic multiplication and
division facts, there are advanced problems as well. It also provides
instructions on how to solve questions on each level. It is also available in
multiple languages.
5) Photomath: Great app that is used as a camera caluator and math assistant.
Students or parents can take a picture of a math problem and the app will
automatically show the solution along with a step-by-step explanation. A
math keyboard is also featured and it supports, arithmetics, fractions,
decimals, and equations.
6) iToochMiddle School:My students really enjoyed using this app! It really
helps in providing a fun and engaging learning experience for both
mathematics and language arts. The app is based on Common Core
Standards. One of the coolfeatures provided is a speech synthesis to help
4. students in their reading and text comprehension for both subject areas! It
comes with a virtual blackboard and lesson summaries. There is another
iTooch app entitiled iTooch 6th Grade Math, but it requires a purchase of
$5.99. Several of my parents chooseto purchase it and I have seen the
improvements and motivation from my students with their usage! It is
available in English and French.
