This document outlines an alternative pharmacy career mentor program at Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The program aims to expose student pharmacists to non-traditional pharmacy careers through mentorship relationships. It provides guidance for both mentors and mentees on the mentorship process. 6. Program Objectives
Increase student pharmacists' self awareness of their strengths, values and career
motivations under the guidance of their mentor.
Encourage the formation of mentor/mentee relationships as a way for students to explore
alternative pharmacy careers outside of the classroom.
Formalize a pilot mentor program through Butler University COPHS that will expose
students to a wide variety of alternative careers in pharmacy practice.

Guidance for Mentees
Familiarize yourself with the personality and career assessments the student will take. Try
taking these yourself if you have yet to complete them in your career. Share these results
with your mentee.
Begin with a two way conversation about what each of you hopes to get out of this
experience.
Walk student through your own career journey.
Share likes/dislikes of current or previous job.
Offer guidance on student's LinkedIn profile, CV, resume and/or ePortfolio.
Be willing to connect mentee with contacts in areas of pharmacy they want to explore.
Be flexible and open minded!
Complete the following career/personality assessments prior to your first meeting with your
mentor: StrengthsFinder (optional), Myers­Briggs, APhA Pathways, Holland Theme Code,
Values Card Sort. Share your results with your mentor and keep them in a central location
for reference when applying for jobs.
Create and maintain a current LinkedIn profile.
Communicate with mentor at least once every month.
Discuss future work/life balance goals and expectations with mentor.
Discuss rotation selection with mentor.
Ask mentor about hobbies/activities they are involved in outside of work.
Be flexible and open minded!
