Key facilitators include the World Trade Organization, United Nations, World Bank, and International Monetary Fund. While globalization has increased incomes and spread values, it has also resulted in job losses and cultural homogenization according to some.

India is the second most populous country with over 1 billion people. It has a diverse economy led by the service industry, with agriculture still employing the majority of the workforce. Culturally, India has been shaped by many ancient civilizations and religions over millennia and has hundreds of languages despite a caste system and tradition of arranged marriages. While economic growth has been strong in recent years, challenges remain around poverty, infrastructure, and corruption.

Globalization and poverty are controversial issues. While globalization can lead to economic growth and increased opportunities through free trade and investment, it has also been associated with rising inequality and not all populations sharing in the gains. Globalization positively impacts poverty by connecting markets and allowing for more efficient production and trade, but it can also lower incomes for farmers, increase job insecurity, and heighten wealth disparities as developed countries dominate global commerce. The relationship between globalization and poverty is complex, and globalization's effects depend on factors like pace of integration and individual country circumstances.
