Re: Business for a Better World Competition
To whom it may concern,
For the first time in 2015, the University of Bath School of Management, participated in the
Business for a Better World Case Competition. This competition asked MBA students to work in
teams to deliver possible solutions for a real world sustainability challenging being faced by a
particular organisation. This year, the challenge focused on how to decarbonise the holdings of the
Norway Government Pension Fund Global. Teams were given four key objectives:
1. Minimize the carbon footprint of the fund;
2. Reduce risks that might strand assets;
3. Maximize returns and engagement impact with companies;
4. Position the fund to thrive in and drive a world that does not exceed an average 2-degree
temperature increase. (For further details of the competition, please see
http://www.corporateknights.com/affiliates/2016contest/).
This is a prestigious competition in the field of sustainability and management, and the School
was represented by Jeanne Marie Coronado, Li Yun Li, Tony Page, Poorna Kapil Reddy
Kambham and Benjamin Paul Davies, who took time out of their busy schedule to volunteer for
this challenge. They were a team with a great deal of experience in the field of sustainability, and
put this expertise to work on a viable and practical solution to decarbonisation. While the team did
not progress to the second round, they received high scores in their proposed solution, receiving 8
out of 10 on their ideas to minimize the carbon footprint of the fund, and 10 out of 10 on how to
maximize financial returns.
We are very proud of their efforts and look forward to being involved in the competition in
future years. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,
