This document discusses the business case for managing laboratory ventilation hoods. Properly managing fume hoods can save money by reducing energy costs without compromising safety. A Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory model can help estimate energy savings from adjusting fume hood settings and airflow. While lowering costs, safety should remain the top priority, as decreasing air velocities just to save money may not be advisable. A few resources are also provided for further information on energy management and fume hood performance.
SBC on energy efficiency for SMEs Dec 2015Barbara Albert
This presentation helps small and medium sized business become a more profitable business by helping them increase their energy efficiency.
SMEs are struggling with the ever rising energy costs that are adding to the overhead. It is also hard to get a proper handle on analysing bills and managing energy in a small to medium sized organisation as there is no money for a dedicated person to manage this area. And increasingly customers expect businesses to do the right thing and to be more sustainable. At the intersection of these three forces is the fear that competitors might do a better job.
This presentation helps SMEs think about ways on how they can manage their energy consumption so they spend less on utilities. This increases the bottom line and as a side effect, the business also understands and controls their energy consumption. If the success stories are shared well, customers will think positively about the company, which will further increase profits. Businesses will feel so much more confident about doing their bit and will have a more profitable business by following the steps that are outlined in this presentation.
USC - Carbon Management Plan - An overview of the development processBarbara Albert
This presentation shows an overview of the development process of the Carbon Management Plan for the University of the Sunshine Coast, which 100% Renewables developed with the University.
This presentation shows how organisations can transition to 100% renewable energy in four steps, starting from "Step 1 - Lead" to "Step 4 - Succeed".
It illustrates the rapid uptake of renewables and how more and more organisations and local governments are setting themselves the goal of 100% renewable energy.
The presentation also shows an example pathway.
The four-step methodology is part of a book called "Energy Unlimited", written by sustainability professional Barbara Albert, which is due for release in September 2016.

Barbara Albert - Demystifying the pathway to 100% renewable energy for local...Barbara Albert
Barbara Albert held this presentation at the inaugural Renewable Cities Australia conference on 2 June 2016. When considering 100% renewable energy, most local governments worry about how much this will cost and how to finance it, what they should do and when and how they can get the necessary support. By following the 4-step method of Barbara's upcoming book, municipalities will be able to develop a plan of staged energy efficiency and renewable energy opportunities that have the support of councillors and management and can be financed using innovative methods. The presentation also shows example pathways of two regional local governments and the advantages they have over metropolitan ones.
Building for the Future: Energy Efficient Technologies Today and Tomorrow, St...Alliance To Save Energy
Presentation from the Alliance to Save Energy's 2010 Great Energy Efficiency Day, which took place on March 10, 2010 in the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington, DC.
Saving our planet, lifting people out of poverty, advancing economic growth... these are one and the same fight. We must connect the dots between climate change, water scarcity, energy shortages, global health, food security and women's empowerment. Solutions to one problem must be solutions for all. ---Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary General.
Saving energy is so integral to life. Although organizations were first attracted to energy savings for the cost reduction it brought, they have now realized that creating sustainable energy solutions is no longer optional, but inevitable.
Technology is advancing, but then tracking the usage and wastage of energy for this is getting tougher by the day. Cutting energy waste becomes the hardest challenge for organizations across the world, mainly because of the very little data on the amount of energy used and wasted.
You can't make energy saving work without data.
There needs to be a radical difference in the way we use energy if we are expecting a sustainable future. Operational Technology's increasing collaboration with Information Technology creates hope to bring about this transformation. Another development that will add to this change is the Internet of Things (IoT). Both these advancements have helped in inventing analytics-driven and customized energy saving solutions. With the smart technology, the demand and consumption of energy are automatically monitored and controlled.
When automation and energy are backed by software and analytics, it takes operational efficiency to another level. Enterprises around the world need to be backed up with strong energy management services by forming a robust ecosystem of partners. Governments must support enterprise-wide energy operations with sustainable energy solutions. Organizations working towards building up analytical models to make efficient energy saving solutions must be encouraged. Only then will the overall carbon footprint and energy wastage reduce and the energy losses that have occurred till now could be recovered.
Why your business should reduce its energy consumptionUtilitywise plc
To make long-term savings your business should reduce its energy consumption. Get energy efficient to reduce your carbon footprint and keep your customers engaged with your business.
With new and increasing demand for solar energy, experts expect that 70,000 new solar panels will be installed every hour globally in the upcoming years. That's a lot of new business for solar energy companies.
However, solar providers shouldn't limit their services to panel sales and installation. They should also offer indoor air quality products and services. Selling clean energy and clean air to customers is both smart and profitable. Air quality control is a fairly easy skill set to learn, usually, the biggest IAQ job takes no more than three tools and three hours. And lastly, these marketable skills set you apart from your competition.

The launch of the report was accompanied by presentations from exemplar projects from the SEAI energy efficiency programmes and a panel discussion exploring how we might accelerate the pace of retrofit in Ireland. New insights into the attitudes of investors was presented and the multiple benefits of energy efficiency explored.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
