Business Communication Project Brief
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the project, students should be able to
1. Write short reports;
2. Conduct business research;
3. Conduct business (group) meetings;
4. Conduct business presentations.
A. Team Size:
5-6 members per team
B. Scenario:
Each team will be required to research a multinational corporation
(MNC) and create a proposal or a report about that MNC. Each team
will select one of the following topics:
• Select one of the following proposals:
1) To enter into a new geographic overseas market; must be
a third world country, i.e. start an operation in Romania
2) To create a new line of product or service; the product or
service does NOT exist now
3) To acquire or merge with another company; DO NOT
report any previous merger or acquisition
• Present your report as a recruiting document to give to a
consulting firm that your company has hired. The firm is hired
to recruit middle managers for your company from China and
from the local people of a third world country who will manage
part of the foreign operation of your MNC, i.e. to hire a Chinese
and a Brazilian manager to manage the factory in Sao Paulo,
Brazil
• Report and EVALUATE the company’s business-a case study
of a success story or an unsuccessful story of the past that has
significant impact on the business
C. Project Coverage:
In your project report, it should include covering the following topics:
• introduction/purpose of the report
• brief history of the MNC
• mission of the company
• products/target markets of the company
• conclusion/evaluation/recommendations (NO SWOT, NO 4P’s)
• bibliography (NO Wikipedia, NO BaiDu…)
o at least two source from European publications
o at least two source from North America
o at least two source from China(Must be written in English)

D. Assessment Allocation:
The project accounts for 20% of the overall course assessment.
The project has 2 distinct stages.
• 10% of the marks are assigned for the end of stage 1 and
• 10% of the marks are assigned for the end of stage 2
• Each team member will receive the team score for each stage
moderated by the team evaluation at the end of each stage
• 10 Marks will be deducted from the report’s overall marks for
not following instructions
E. Project Stages:
Stage 1
Prepare a written report of your chosen topic
• Students will be assigned to a team of 5-6 members
• Each team will select a team leader and provide information to
your instructor/professor
• Each team is assigned a MNC
• Each team will conduct necessary research on the MNC to
complete the report
• Deliverables:
o Project Team Register (by week 2)
o MNC assigned to each team (by week 2)
o Minimum 5 double-sided pages, not exceeding 6 double-
sided pages, professional, and well formatted report (by
end of week 8)
o No plastic or any special report covers
o Ensure team member Chinese names and ID numbers
are on cover page of both report and ppt
Stage 2
Give an oral presentation to the class detailing your report
• Give PowerPoint presentation
• All team members are to present an assigned part decided by
the team
• The presenter’s name must appear on the first slide of
his/her part of the ppt presentation
• 20 minutes of presentation, 10 marks penalty for overrunning
the required time
• 5 minutes of Q & A
• Deliverables:
o The presentation (week 13/14)
o Submit a copy of the PowerPoint presentation on the
first class of week 13
o Team member contribution and evaluation (week 14)
