Christian Aid's local partners in Burma have been able to immediately respond to the cyclone aid with pre-positioned resources, providing blankets, medicines, and water purification tablets to 20,000 families in the worst-hit Irrawaddy delta region. The cyclone has killed at least 100,000 people, made 1 million homeless, and left 1.5 million without access to clean water and food, with up to 90% of homes in some areas damaged or destroyed. While many parts of the delta have yet to be reached, the local partners are leading relief efforts amid extreme difficulties, though their supplies are limited and will run out unless the Burmese government allows more international aid into the country.
