A massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti in January 2010, killing over 200,000 people and leaving 1.2 million homeless. The American Red Cross immediately began providing emergency relief assistance, including food, water, medical care and shelter. Over the following two months, the Red Cross reached over 1.9 million Haitians with aid and was able to supply water, build latrines, establish clinics, and distribute food and supplies. Their relief efforts involved over 600 workers from 40 countries and included rebuilding infrastructure like schools and employment programs to facilitate long-term recovery.
