God shows Ezekiel a vision of dry bones in a valley and asks if they can live. Ezekiel says only God knows. God commands Ezekiel to prophesy to the bones, saying God will attach tendons and flesh to the bones and breathe life into them. As Ezekiel prophesies, the bones come together and are covered with flesh, but have no breath. God then commands Ezekiel to prophesy to the breath, and when he does breath enters the bodies and they become a vast army. God explains the vision represents Israel thinking their hopes are gone, but God will breathe new life into them and bring them back to their land.
