It argues that schools must prepare students to safely and effectively create, navigate, and grow their own personal learning networks. This involves teaching students skills like critically reading information and people online, writing for authentic audiences, and organizing the sharing of online resources. The document also presents various digital tools like blogs, wikis, social networking platforms, and content aggregation tools that can help students develop these network literacy skills.
Social media and technology-enhanced learningSarah Stewart
Presentation about how you can use social media for teaching and learning in higher education, given at the University of the West Country, UK on September 3rd 2012.
This document discusses the concept of "flat learning", which uses technology to connect classrooms globally and bring more of the world into the classroom. It describes flat learning as allowing discovery and engagement beyond physical classroom walls. Three key ingredients of going flat are identified: 1) Connection, which involves connecting learners through technologies and professional learning networks; 2) Citizenship, developing students' digital citizenship and global awareness; and 3) Collaboration, teaching and modeling collaborative skills. Going flat creates a holistic, inquiry-based blended learning environment through projects, challenges, and live events. The Flat Classroom concept aims to change pedagogy and education on a global scale.
This document discusses leading learning in the digital age. It emphasizes building relationships and sharing knowledge through collective action and cooperation. Key aspects include embracing failure as an opportunity for growth, modeling behaviors, allocating time and resources for professional learning, and educating others. The focus is shifting from command-and-control models to supporting and encouraging learning through partnerships.
The document discusses advancing formal and informal learning through openly sharing and using free, high-quality educational materials organized as courses via the OpenCourseWare Consortium. It aims to expand access to education by showcasing existing course materials and educational quality. The future of OCW includes enhancing self-learning tools, increasing faculty engagement through global issues, and developing new mobile platforms to improve accessibility. Case studies show countries using OER to increase affordable access, supplement curriculum, and advocate for recognizing OER production in university rankings.
7 Steps To Creating Social Media Guidelines-FETC 2013Steven Anderson
The document outlines a process for schools to create student and teacher friendly social media guidelines. It recommends examining current school culture and social media use, organizing a team to draft guidelines, researching other policies, creating and reviewing draft guidelines with community input, and presenting and reviewing the final guidelines. The overall goal is to leverage social media to better communicate while addressing fears and ensuring policies allow for transparency and community feedback.

Building Together: Nurturing Leadership through Communities of Practice - LMI...Virginia Pannabecker
In the current era of never-ending change, effective library organizations must be nimble and flexible. Formal committee structures and reporting lines often get in the way of making changes quickly and may not provide opportunities for leadership development. Communities of Practice (CoPs), as realized at Arizona State University Libraries, provide a flexible model to gather employees from diverse areas and levels of an organization to address a common interest, project or problem. The issues and projects addressed by CoPs at ASU Libraries have benefited overall organizational dynamics and promoted management/staff interpersonal relations, leadership skills, self-awareness, and increased involvement from employees of all areas. Many who participate in these groups go on to participate in further leadership roles in formal groups within the organization. In this workshop, participants will learn about CoPs as an organizational and leadership development resource, including discussion of the theory behind the practice, resources useful for these collaborative working groups and an interactive discussion break-out time for an opportunity to consider how such groups might work in individual organizations.
