Building Flash-based websites using Flex
Lesson 2 – Flex Essentials
by Alex goh, associate trainer @ LAB School ( http://lab.edu.sg/ ), Adobe Authorized Training Centre, Singapore
Less than a decade ago most of the photographer went through a major transformation. Suddenly the dark room one set up at home became redundant. While the performance of digital camera have been improving to levels considered unimaginable just a few years ago, mobile photography came across. Is mobile going to be another milestone? Are the foundation of photography still current? Worldwide speaker Stefano Virgilli returns to Singapore after sharing this short lecture in Italy last December, this time especially for ClubSnappers at SAM.
Adobe Flex - Foundation to Advanced (Bundle) [A-FX-103] FrameworksStefano Virgilli
Flex is a highly productive, free open source framework for building and maintaining expressive web applications that deploy consistently on all major browsers, desktops, and operating systems. While Flex applications can be built using only the free Flex SDK, developers can use Adobe® Flex® Builder™ 3 software to dramatically accelerate development.

Are you a designer or a free lance photographer? Have you pledge before to love your clients? Well, while on one hand our standard of living depends on how many clients we satisfy, on the other hand some clients are not exactly "easy". Inspired by the hilarious reviews on http://clientsfromhell.net/ we will simulate a typical case of miscommunication between Designer and Client. When things go from bad to worse.
Presenter: Stefano Virgilli, Adobe Photoshop Community Professional and User Group Manager Singapore. Stefano is an expert in print, web and video. He is Design Master Instructor at LAB School Singapore (http://lab.edu.sg)
Could you bet on a photo being "photoshopped"? Stefano Virgilli can show you how to spot the trick.
Using some of the not-so-famous features of Adobe Photoshop, everyone can now be a detective. Stefano will also share a real police case happened in Italy, where a photoshopped picture was used as evidence to solve a crime.
Vassilis Legakis has over 10 years of experience developing mobile applications and embedded systems. He is an expert in mobile development who has authored several best-selling mobile apps. Vassilis is currently pursuing a Master's degree in algorithmic complexity and logic. The 5-day training course will cover key Android UI and application development topics through lectures and hands-on labs.

Histogram, Levels, Curves, Colour Balance, Channel Mixer, Exposure, Recovery, FIll Light, Blacks, Brightness, Contrast, Temperature… Isn't this enough? Or too much? It's a jungle out there!
Before to embark in a long journey with Camera Raw and Lightroom, do you really understand WHY are you using this or that adjustment?
RESET! Start from the beginning and analyze what's right and what's wrong with a picture. Only then we can try to "fix it".
Whether you are a newbie photo editor or a professional photographer, this Creative Crew session is going to change your editing experience forever.

Building Flash-based websites using Adobe Flex - Lesson 3/10Stefano Virgilli
This document discusses CSS skinning, filters, and effects in Flex-based websites. CSS skinning allows changing the appearance of UI components through CSS stylesheets or MXML tags. Common filters include bevel, blur, drop shadow, glow, and gradient filters, which have customizable properties. Flex offers many built-in effects like blur, fade, and rotate that can be applied to UI components through parallel or sequence effects upon events. Resources for exploring Flex styles and effects are also provided.

3. Adobe Flex Builder
● Adobe's development tool for developing Flex applications
● Retail price - US$249
● 60 days trial - http://www.adobe.com/products/flex/
● Free to student - https://freeriatools.adobe.com/flex/
● Free to unemployed developers - https://freeriatools.adobe.com/learnflex/
● Alternatively, any text editor can be used to do coding; compile to SWF using
the Adobe's Flex compiler (free)
6. Flex Programming
Design mode
Source mode
● Flex programming uses a mixture of MXML and Actionscript 3 codes.
● MXML, like HTML, is mainly to draw the user interface components.
● Actionscript, like Javascript, allows more complex user interactions or
application behaviour.
● Note that there's always an equivalent Actionscript code for all MXML code,
but not vice versa.
8. Common Flex UI Components – Layout and Navigators
Canvas: TabNavigator:
HBox:
Accordion:
VBox:
Tile:
9. Customising Flex UI Components
● Flex provides many basic UI components to get you started. Once you are
profiicent, you can make your own UI components or customise the existing
ones.
10. Skinning UI Components using CSS
● Customising UI components requires in-depth knowledge of Actionscript.
● For newcomers, use CSS to change the appearance of UI components.
11. Data Binding
● Ensure a property or variable always get the latest value of another property
or variable
● e.g.
12. Image Component
●Flex Image component accept the following file formats: JPG, GIF, PNG,
SWF (for vector)
● Image can be load at runtime or embed into the SWF file
● Load image at runtime
● Embed into SWF file – No need to wait for image to load, but SWF file size
increases
13. Official Adobe Flex Documentation
● A MUST-HAVE when developing Flex application
● Launch from Flex Builder, Help > Help contents, or Shift + F2.
14. Resources
● Flex component explorer - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/tourdeflex/
● Flex examples and source codes - http://blog.flexexamples.com/
