In view of its international projection, the GSMP takes place entirely in English.
Participant Profile
This program is designed for senior managers and directors. Participants are typically members of the
management committee, vice presidents, managing directors, unit directors and country managers. They
bring over 15 years of experience in senior management.
Participants will be carefully selected in order to form a group with similar concerns, while maintaining a
balanced mix of business sectors, international vision and cultures. The main admission criteria encompass
professional career to date, present level of responsibility in the company and interest in expanding an
international vision.

Program Calendar
The GSMP has been designed to balance the schedule of a busy executive while maximizing the learning of a
comprehensive management program. In order to achieve this, the program has been divided into 2 separate
residential modules:
A typical day incorporates various instructional methods, including lectures, interactive case studies, and
small group discussions. We incorporate elements of experiential learning to provide opportunities to test
application of your learning real time. The instructors don’t take a tactical approach to learning, nor do they
offer easy checklists or simple pattern matching approaches to problem solving. But rather, they teach
participants how to think, not what to think.

Program Location
The GSMP 2015 first in-class module will take place at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business Gleacher
Center, in Chicago, USA. The second in-class module will be held at IE Business School’s New Executive Education
Building, located at the main campus in Madrid, Spain.
The Gleacher Center is located in the heart of Chicago’s downtown in close proximity to the NBC Tower and the
famous Wrigley Building. The Gleacher Center is the platform for the Executive MBA Program North America (XP),
the Evening MBA and Weekend MBA Programs as well as non-degree Executive Education programs (both open
enrollment and custom). The Center features stunning views of Chicago’s skyline and waterways. It also houses a
world-class conference center, with well-equipped classrooms, spacious reception areas, and first-class catering
to accommodate corporate events.
IE Business School is situated in the heart of Madrid’s financial district, known as the Barrio de Salamanca, a

Susan Annunzio
President and CEO, The Center for High Performance (CfHP)
Susan Annunzio, President and CEO for the Center of High Performance, is a
strategic advisor to CEOs of leading global companies on strategy attainment
and business transformation. Her focus is to work with top-tier executive
teams to increase collaboration and creativity on highly strategic, complex
decisions inhibiting the company’s ability to be competitive. Ms. Annunzio has
taught in Executive Education courses at The University of Chicago Booth
School of Business since 2000. She currently teaches one of the most popular
Executive Education programs: High Performance Leadership. She has also
been a guest lecturer at INSEAD business school in Fontainebleau, France,
and has taught at General Electric’s Crotonville Corporate Training Center.
Previously, Ms. Annunzio ran the research-based, high performance
consulting subsidiary of Hudson Highland Group, Inc., a leading international,
professional staffing and talent management solutions company. In that role
Susan directed the most comprehensive global study of knowledge workers
ever conducted on the factors that accelerate or stifle high performance. She
has presented on this study internationally at such prestigious venues as the
World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Ms. Annunzio is author of
Contagious Success (Portfolio, 2004), a dynamic management book which
revealed a global standard for high-performing workgroups that can be
replicated in any organization. Contagious Success was voted Fast Company’s
Readers’ Choice selection in January 2005. Additionally, Ms. Annunzio
authored two more prominent business books: Communicoding (Fine, 1990;
Penguin USA, 1991) and Evolutionary Leadership (Simon & Schuster, 2001;
Fireside, 2002). She has been a guest on numerous local and national
television and radio news programs and has been quoted extensively in the
business press, including The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, BBC, USA Today,
and Bloomberg. In her consulting role, Ms. Annunzio has worked with Fortune
100 companies crossing all industry sectors, including BP, Pfizer, ABN AMRO,
PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Amazon.com.
David Bach
Professor of Management Beyond the Market
The point where business and politics meet is the main focus of David
Bach’s teaching and research activities. “Politics has always been
important for business,” he says, “but owing to globalisation and new
demands on companies, executives must more than ever engage in skillful
political management.”
With considerable professional experience consulting for companies such as
McKinsey, Prof Bach watches with interest the way that globalisation and new
technologies transform the business environment. The opening up of domestic
industries and foreign markets has given companies tremendous new
opportunities. However, new public scrutiny facilitated by the Internet and 24h
news media combined with the need to simultaneously manage different social
and political environments is posing fresh challenges. “As a result, the so-
called ‘non-market environment’ of business is becoming increasingly
important for the formulation and implementation of strategy,” he adds.
His ability to join the dots between these interacting forces is also what
comes through in his teaching, in courses such as Business, Government
and Society, as well as in his work in leading academic journals, which
have published his studies on industry self-regulation, the politics of
Internet telephony, the transformation of the music industry, and China’s
growing influence in the field of information technology. “There’s only a
handful of people with a background in political science that make the
transition to management education,” he says. “I’m fortunate to work at
the intersection of two incredibly interesting fields.”

Manuel Becerra
Professor in Strategy and International Management, IE Business School
Metaphorically speaking, Manuel Becerra puts on a different hat for each
of his three activities - teaching, research and consulting - for he believes
that they should all be approached differently. “There is certainly some
overlap,” he says. “But a researcher needs to think through assumptions
and hypotheses. A teacher must convey ideas in clear ways. And a
consultant must help solve problems for business. So we have three
audiences. We should be proficient in communicating with all three and they
require different approaches.” An important audience for the business
school professor consists of the readers of academic journals, and Prof
Becerra has contributed to publications such as the Academy of
Management Review, Management International Review and Organization
Science. However, material developed through writing, research, consulting
and teaching can be applied elsewhere, and Prof Becerra’s knowledge of
corporate strategy, internationalization and organisational processes
means that he is now highly valued by leading companies as a professor for
their executive programmes. But again, he says that dealing with top
executives is very different from the MBA classroom experience. “In the
MBA, like most of the faculty here, I teach a lot of theory through cases,”
he explains. “But top executives don’t want theory - they want you to help

Greg Bunch
Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship
Greg Bunch brings years of practical experience as a General Manager and
Entrepreneur to his classes. He is the founder and President of Masterplan
International Corporation. Bunch works with Fortune 50, family, and start-
up businesses in the areas of Innovation and Strategy. He was also a
partner at Brandtrust, a Brand Strategy Consultancy. Some of the
companies he has worked with include: American Express, Danaher, ETS,
Harley-Davidson, Hewlett-Packard, Kimberly-Clark, McDonalds and YUM!
Bunch has served on Boards and Advisory Boards of companies in
Financial Services, Retail, Franchising and Marketing.
Bunch teaches the New Venture Strategy course in the MBA program at
The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
He has been a Guest Lecturer teaching Entrepreneurial Strategy at
Wheaton College, IL. In addition, he has lectured nationally and
internationally on topics related to Strategy, Creating Customers and
Innovation. Civically, he was an alderman in West Chicago serving on
committees for infrastructure, public safety and development.
Bunch earned a bachelor’s Degree from Wheaton College in philosophy
and a Master in philosophy and religion from Harvard University.

embarked on a new research initiative to identify new business models at
the interface of supply chain and finance. Asked about his new interest in
banks he answers: “Because that’s where the money is!”
A founding academic of the Efficient Consumer Response Initiative, the
biggest collaborative movement in the world, Daniel has researched and
consulted Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Wal-Mart, Migros, Sainsbury and
many other consumer and retail companies to help them improve
customer service, lower cost, reduce out-of-stock level and create
sustainable supply chains.
“Working with a diverse group of students or executives is what I love”
says Daniel who - before joining IE - taught or researched at St. Gallen
(Switzerland), Bocconi (Italy), INSEAD (France and Singapore), London
Business School (UK) and Wharton (USA). He directed many programmes
and received several awards for his teaching and his case studies.
Before joining academia Daniel worked for Bayer Leverkusen and AGFA in
Germany and the US. “Collaborating with industry to solve burning issues
and then bring the solution into the classroom is what I enjoy most” says
Daniel a Swiss national who lives with his wife and two boys in Madrid and
at Lake Geneva.

José Estéves
Professor of Information Technologies and Systems, IE Business School
When José Estéves talks about information systems it is with intensity and
a passion that is founded not only in the technology itself but also in the
human side of these systems. Focusing on areas such as knowledge
management, the implementation of enterprise systems and, more
recently, enterprise risk management, Prof Estéves believes it is the way
people interact with information technology that will determine the
success or failure of its implementation.
A wealth of experience in the corporate world underpins this belief. As an
information systems analyst and consultant for companies such as Ciba-
Geigy and Sonae Group and before joining the academic world, Prof
Estéves focused on understanding how information systems interacted
with business processes and human resources management.
“Enterprise systems software packages support the management of the
whole organisation. The big issue is that these systems change companies,
their way of working and their culture, and they are critical to success,” he
says. “So it’s all about human behaviour - individual, organisational and
social - and we should analyze IT/IS at these three levels.”
Prof Esteves is also chair of eGovernment Software AG- Alianza Sumaq
which focus on the analysis and understanding of eGovernment initiatives
in Spain and Latin America.
In addition to his research and teaching, Prof Estéves continues to act as
a consultant to a number of companies - something he believes makes an
important contribution to his academic activities. And his theories continue
to be aired in prominent journals and books, such as his chapter on
Understanding ERP Systems Implementation in a Higher Education
Institution: A Grounded Theory Approach, in Idea group’s 2004 book
Qualitative Case Studies on Enterprise Wide Systems. “Consulting provides
fieldwork, data and results because, without examples, it’s all just theory.
So it’s a cycle - consulting, research and then applying it in the classes.”
Pradeep K. Chintagunta
Joseph T. and Bernice S. Lewis Distinguished Service Professor of
Marketing, The University of Chicago Booth School of Business
Pradeep K. Chintagunta conducts research into the analysis of household
purchase behavior, pharmaceutical markets, and technology products. “A
lot of my early research was with scanner panel data trying to understand
how consumers respond to different marketing activities of firms - prices,
promotions, advertising, etc.,” explained Chintagunta. “My research has
expanded in two directions - one was to expand the domain beyond CPG
products to pharmaceuticals and technology products and the other was
to go beyond the consumer to other players in the broader ‘ecosystem’ to
obtain a more holistic view of the effects of marketing.”
Chintagunta is an area editor of Marketing Science, an associate editor of
the Journal of Marketing Research, Management Science, and Quantitative
Marketing & Economics. His research has appeared in the Journal of
Marketing Research, Marketing Science, Management Science, the
International Journal of Research Marketing, the Journal of the American
Statistical Association, and the Journal of Econometrics. In addition to
being a finalist for the O'Dell award in both 1996 and 2001, Chintagunta
is the recipient of the Hillel J. Einhorn Award for Excellence in Teaching
and has been named one of the Chicago Booth’s top professors by
BusinessWeek. “Teaching across programs such as full-time, evening,
weekend, XP, and international XP exposes me to a variety of perspectives
and experiences that I can then integrate into my subsequent teaching and
research.” He hopes his students learn that there is always more progress
to be made. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from
Banaras Hindu University in 1984, a postgraduate diploma in management
from the Indian Institute of Management in 1986, and a PhD in marketing
from Northwestern University in 1990. In addition to teaching at Chicago
Booth, he has taught courses at the Harvard Business School and the S.C.
Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University. He joined
the Chicago Booth faculty in 1995. He enjoys traveling, movies, and
spending time with his family.

Gareth Jones
Professor of Leadership, Visiting Professor of IE Business School
Gareth’s career has spanned both the academic and business worlds. He
began as a University academic in Economic and Social Studies at the
University of East Anglia before moving to the London Business School,
where he joined the Organisational Behaviour Group.
During this period he directed the School’s Accelerated Development
Programme.
At this point the attractions of a “real” job in business proved too great and
he joined Polygram, then the worlds largest recorded music company.
Appointed as Senior Vice President for Polygram’s global human
resources, his responsibilities covered more than thirty countries. In 1996
he reverted to academia when he became the BT Professor of
Organisational Development at Henley where he also served on the Board
of Governors. His most recent job was as Director of Human Resources
and Internal Communications at the BBC. He is currently Visiting Professor
at the IE Business School in Madrid and a Fellow of the Centre for
Management Development at London Business School.
Gareth’s research interests are in organizational design, culture,
leadership and change. He has published several books, including “The
Character of a Corporation: How Your Culture Can Make or Break Your
Business” co-authored with Rob Goffee and most recently, “Why Should
Anyone Be Led by You?”, also with Rob Goffee, and published by Harvard
Business School Press in February 2006. This latest leadership title was
based on an article of the same name which won the prestigious McKinsey
Award for the best article in HBR in 2001. The theme of authenticity was
developed in another HBR article, “Managing Authenticity” which appeared
in the December 2005 issue. Their latest article, “Leading Clever People”
appeared in the March issue of HBR and deals with the special challenges
of leading in the knowledge economy. This was runner-up for the 2008
McKinsey Award.
Gareth’s and Rob’s new book “Clever; leading your smartest, most creative
people” will be published by Harvard Business School Press in September
2009. Other articles have appeared in the European Management Journal,
in Human Relations and in the Harvard Business Review. Gareth serves on
the Editorial Advisory Board of People Management Magazine.
In addition, Gareth is a founding partner of Creative Management
Associates (CMA) a consultancy focused on organisations where creativity
is a source of competitive strength.
He is also a Trustee of The Work Foundation.
Daniel Mayoral

Mr Mayoral has focused his professional career in all aspects related
to people’s development; and the elements that allow people and
organizations to be more effective in personal relationships. After four
years working in several consultancy projects at Accenture, he starts
leading the Development Area in Agilent Technologies (Hewlett Packard).
Daniel has participated in all aspects of organizational development, such
as: creating training plans, development of training courses, competencies
evaluation, mentoring / coaching programs, change management, on-line
tools development, etc.
Nowadays he is working focusing in helping people and organizations in
the development of tools and training programs that allows personal and
professional development, in his own firm.
Daniel starts collaborating with IE Business School in 2005 and actually
takes part in several programs related with management abilities.

Joseph Pistrui
Professor of Corporate Entrepreneurship, IE Business School
Joseph Pistrui is the Associate Dean for Executive Education at IE Business
School (Instituto de Empresa) based in Madrid, Spain. Additionally, Joseph
is the founder and Executive Director of the Corporate Learning Group, and
is a professor of the Department of Entrepreneurial Studies at IE Business
School. Joseph is also a Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics
and Political Sciences, where he lectures and researches issues related to
new enterprise formation as part of the LSE’s Department of Management.
Finally, Joseph is a member of the Duke Corporate Education Global
Learning Resource Network and serves as a subject-matter expert for
custom executive education programs for Duke clients. Across his career
Joseph has worked as an educator/advisor to companies including
Amadeus, AstraZeneca, BBVA, Bosch, BT, DT, HSBC, Microsoft, ONA
Group, PGS, Rio Tinto, Royal Dutch Shell, Siemens, Thomson Reuters,
Unilever, Vestas, and others.
Most recently, Joseph served as Managing Director for Duke Corporate
Education, based in London. In this capacity he worked with Fortune 100
companies to diagnose strategic business challenges and to design and
deliver customized educational interventions to advance strategy
execution.
Previously Joseph served as Academic Director, Department of
Entrepreneurial Studies, at IE Business School, in Madrid, Spain. During
this period Joseph redesigned the department’s curriculum and taught
courses in New Venture Creation, Corporate Venturing, Family Business
Venturing, Entrepreneurial Finance and Social Entrepreneurship.
Additionally, Joseph served as a Research Associate with the Institute for
Family Enterprising at Babson College, Boston, USA, and for the
Enterprising Families Initiative at The Wharton School, University of
Pennsylvania, USA. Finally, Joseph was a Visiting Lecturer in Strategic
Management and Entrepreneurship at Universita’ Bocconi, in Milan, Italy,
and a Guest Lecturer at the Budapest University of Economics Sciences,
Budapest, Hungary.
Joseph Pistrui earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business Strategy
at the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona. Additionally, he holds a Master
of Arts in Liberal Studies from DePaul University and a Bachelor of Science
in Business Administration from Ferris State University, both US based
institutions.
Previous to his academic endeavors Joseph had a 15 year sales and
marketing management career in the consumer products industry, mostly
with Bristol-Myers Squibb in the US (1985-1995). In this capacity Joseph
held a number of roles in Sales Management, Marketing and Key Account
Management for the consumer products group within Bristol-Myers
Squibb.
Ram Shivakumar
Clinical Professor of Economics and Strategy
Ram Shivakumar specializes in industrial organization, financial
economics, and corporate strategy. His research has appeared in the
Journal of International Economics, the Canadian Journal of Economics,
and the Journal of Industrial Economics.
In describing his courses, Shivakumar says, “I try to do four things in my
courses. The first is to try to instill a passion & energy in my students for
the subject matter. Second, I place a premium on intuition and first
principles since these are, for the most part, the only things that students
remember long after the course is done. Third, my courses force students
to relate the text-book world to the real world, to recognize the limits of
text-book models and to be comfortable with moving back and forth from
the text-book world to the real-world. And fourth, my courses encourage

students to develop the capacity to think both big and small: to obtain a big
picture perspective of how industries and markets might evolve and to
identify the emerging opportunities but to also carefully think through the
micro-challenges that firms must address if they are to become industry
leaders.”
Shivakumar received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University
of Madras, India, a master’s degree in financial mathematics from the
University of Chicago, and a PhD in economics from Indiana University.
Shivakumar is an avid cricket and golf enthusiast and enjoys reading and
traveling.
Douglas Skinner
Eric J. Gleacher Distinguished Service Professor of Accounting
Douglas Skinner is a leading expert in corporate disclosure practices,
corporate financial reporting, and corporate finance, with a focus on payout
policy. His research addresses topics such as (1) the causes and capital
market effects of managers’ corporate disclosure choices (especially
forward-looking information such as earnings forecasts, earnings pre-
announcements, and guidance, corporate conference calls, etc.); (2) how
the legal and regulatory environment affects managers’ corporate
disclosure practices; (3) managers' incentives to use their discretion in the
financial accounting and reporting process to manage reported earnings
(“earnings management”); (4) how stock prices respond to earning
releases, especially for high growth companies (“earnings torpedoes”);
and (5) the determinants of firms' payout policies, including whether and
how much firms should pay out, the form of payout (dividends versus stock
repurchases), etc.
Professor Skinner’s research is published in top academic journals that
include The Accounting Review, the Journal of Accounting and Economics,
the Journal of Accounting Research, the Journal of Business, the Journal
of Finance, and the Journal of Financial Economics. His research has also
been prominently featured in the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times,
The Economist, and the New York Times. He is co-editor of the Journal of
Accounting Research, and was previously co-editor of the Journal of
Accounting and Economics.
In 2010, Professor Skinner was named one of the top business school
professors in the world in the Financial Times Global MBA Rankings. His
teaching has included courses taught to undergraduate upper-classmen,
full-time and part-time MBA students, Global MBA students, executives,
consultants, and PhD students. His teaching covers topics that include
corporate financial reporting and analysis, financial statement analysis,
and empirical methods in accounting research.
Prior to Professor Skinner’s appointment at Chicago, he was KPMG
Professor of Accounting at the Ross School of Business, University of
Michigan, where he had been on the faculty since 1989. He holds a
bachelor's degree in Economics with first class honors from Macquarie
University in Sydney and a masters and PhD from the University of
Rochester. He has been a tenured full professor at Chicago Booth since
2005.
Craig D. Wortmann
Clinical Professor of Entrepreneurship, University of Chicago Booth
School of Business
Craig Wortmann brings his 20 years of experience in Sales and Marketing
Strategy to the classroom through his Entrepreneurial Selling course.
Currently he serves as the CEO of Experience, a firm that helps companies
build their Sales and Marketing engine. Prior to founding Experience,
Wortmann conducted a turnaround of an interactive marketing agency and
sold it successfully in a six-month timeframe. Wortmann also served for
nine years as the CEO of WisdomTools, an e-learning software and
consulting firm. While at WisdomTools his clients ranged from McDonalds
to the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) to Walgreens and beyond.
Wortmann’s background includes Strategic Sales and Marketing
experience at IBM, a Dean Witter company, and The Forum Corporation, a
leading global training consultancy.
Outside of the classroom and the office, Wortmann is both a writer and a
professional speaker. He authored a book about using stories as
performance tools which is titled What's Your Story? and he speaks on the
subjects of Leadership, Selling and Entrepreneurship. Wortmann also
collaborates with his wife and two kids on building the future.
Wortmann earned his MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Marvin Zonis
Professor Emeritus of Business Administration, The University of Chicago
Booth School of Business
Marvin Zonis is Professor Emeritus at the University of Chicago Booth
School of Business. At Chicago Booth, Zonis continues to teach courses
on International Political Economy, Leadership, and E-Commerce. He was
the first professor at the Business School to teach a course on the effects
of digital technologies on global business. He also consults to corporations
and professional asset management firms throughout the world, helping
them to identify, assess, and manage their political risks in the changing
global environment. Zonis is a co-founder and Chairman of DSD, a software
development company based in Moscow and Chicago. He is a member of
the Board of Directors of CNA Financial, the global insurance and financial
services firm, and on the Board of Advisors of Syntek, a European Private
Equity Venture Capital Firm focusing on TMT (telecom, media and
technology). He is a Fellow of Diamond Consultants, a global technology
consulting firm and also a member of the Board of Directors of the
Fondation Etats Unis, Paris and the Board of Advisers of the Centre for
Business Management, Queen Mary University of London. What unites
these activities is Zonis’ unique awareness of the intersections of politics,
economics, emergent technologies and psychology. He argues that global
economic decline generates pervasive feelings of humiliation, anxiety, and
mistrust. Those, in turn, will generate widespread political instability.
Governments will be toppled, the economic decline of those countries will
accelerate and foreign investment will seek other investable countries,
diminishing long-term economic growth. In a world of economic decline,
technologies multiply the downward spiral while economically, cross
border financial flows and business outsourcing to lower cost countries,
for example, have begun to decline - major factors driving the decline of
the global economy. One result is the massive shrinking of cross border
trade. The instability and humiliation, which in turn drives rage, will
generate more recruits for terrorism. In the face of these global economic,
political and financial challenges, business leadership, and a true
understanding of what defines leadership, is more essential than ever.
Zonis has written extensively on globalization, digital technologies,
emerging markets, Middle Eastern politics, the oil industry, Russia, and
U.S. foreign policy. He is a leading authority on the Middle East, and has
spent the last 40 years studying the volatile mix of Islam, terrorism, and
the Middle East. He is the former director of the Center for Middle Eastern
Studies at the University of Chicago. He has lived in Iran, hitchhiked
through Afghanistan in the 1960s, studied Islam in Iraq beginning in 1964,
and has traveled extensively throughout other parts of the region, as well.
His writings have been published, among other places, in The Financial
Times, The New York Times, The International Herald Tribune, Chief
Executive Magazine, La Vanguardia, The Boston Globe, and the Japanese
journal Nikkei Weekly. His books include Risk Rules, How Local Politics
Threaten the Global Economy, The Kimchi Matters: Global Business and
Local Politics in a Crisis Driven World, The Eastern European Opportunity,
Majestic Failure: The Fall of the Shah, Khomeini and the Islamic Republic
of Iran, and The Political Elite of Iran. Zonis has appeared on numerous
network television news programs, including Nightline, and CNN's Larry
King Live and is interviewed regularly on National Public Radio. He is the
International Editor of WBBM-TV, Chicago and was the Middle East
Consultant to ABC/Capital Cities television. He was educated at Yale
University, the Harvard Business School, the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, where he received a PhD in Political Science, and the Institute
for Psychoanalysis, Chicago, where he received psychoanalytic training.
