This document summarizes an introductory session on broadening perspectives of Black identity. The agenda included introductions, reviewing engagement rules, sharing the history of the Black community in Guelph, preliminary findings from a Black experience project in the GTA, and an exploration of varying Black student identities. Factors like country of birth, family history, education, and length of time in an area influence Black identity on campus. There is diversity within the Black student population. Implications for student life staff were discussed in breakouts, and next steps were identified to continue broadening perspectives.
