Assignment Title Professional practices, legal constraints and ethical issues.
The purpose of the assignment is to: give learners an understanding of the creative media sector
in terms of ownership, legal and regulatory issues. Learners will also develop an understanding
of employment opportunities, working conditions and how to apply for work in the media
sector.
Scenario: You are applying for a job in the C&M sector and are preparing for an interview
which you have been briefed for. The company have asked you to demonstrate your
understanding of the industry by engaging in a debate at interview with your potential new boss
and the other candidates.
The Rules of the competition You must prepare yourself fully and articulate your
understanding confidently in a group situation. No prompts will be available to you except
questions.
Task 1: Presenting a debate: public service broadcasting vrs private ownership, multinationals and
independents. A PowerPoint presentation of the main issues surrounding these debates; different
students take up different roles. Issues surrounding licensing, product range, ownership, product
diversity and profitability.
