The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

This is a brief introduction to Shaoxing, including some general information, the history, unique characteristics, the modern society, and Education. It also introduces Shaoxing University and its academic year & point mixed system.
This map shows where I come from. I took it on the airplane.
This is China, almost as big as USA.
My hometown, Shaoxing, is on middle-east of China, very close to the famous Chinese Metropolis, Shanghai.
In fact, they are both on Yangtze River Delta Economic Belt, which is one of the most advanced areas in China.
In China, we have provinces vs. states in USA. And Shaoxing is in northern Zhejiang Province.
When we say Shaoxing, it can mean the Shaoxing District, similar to a county in USA.
It can also mean the Shaoxing Town, the capital of Shaoxing District. But people in Shaoxing usually call it “City Yue.”
This map shows the Shaoxing Town. You can tell there are lots of rivers. That’s why we sometimes introduce it as “the city of rivers”.
In China, people like to live in downtown, because life there is more convenient.
So, people go out of town for work in the morning and return to downtown in the evening.
This creates a lot of traffic jams during the rush-hours. For example, normally, I can drive to my University in about 10 minutes, but at least 30 minutes during the rush hours.
The climate in Shaoxing is subtropical monsoon. It has four distinctive seasons.
In general, it is mild and humid and has many rainy days. Summer is hot and winter is cold.
Though the temperature in winter is normally above zero degree (Celsius), I feel more comfortable in Sault Ste. Marie than In Shaoxing now.
This is not the real palace of Yue. People built this to commemorate Goujian. It has been destroyed and rebuilt many times.
The last time it was destroyed was in World War II, and rebuilt in 1981.
The bricks used to build the base are the same used in Song Dynasty, about 1000 years ago.
There are a lot of places named after Yue. For example, Village Shangzhao means forge, which was Goujian’s secret weapon factory.
Shaoxing was also called “A City of Rice and Fish”.
But about 1900 years ago, it suffered from flood. The mayor of Shaoxing, MaZhen decided to conquer the flood.
Finally, he built the Lake Mirror. The lake guaranteed the bloom of agriculture, but affected rich people’s benefits. They tricked the Emperor to kill Ma Zhen.
Now Lake Mirror is only 10% as big as the original (50,000 acres), but it’s still very beautiful and important.
My father told me that almost every street in downtown Shaoxing was a river, like the photo on top.
Now the main streets in Shaoxing look like the photo at the bottom. What a difference!
Still, there are lots of places named after bridges, but no sight of bridges at all. How sad!
The “八字” Bridge (Ba Zi Bridge): The bridge crosses three streets and three rivers.
2,000 years ago, the East Lake was a quarry.
One of the kings of Yue mined stones from here to build the city Yue. They cut half the mountain and dug so deep that it became a lake.
If you really want to experience the traditional Shaoxing, you can go to Anchang. It’s a small town and only about a 20-minute drive way from downtown.
People in Shaoxing like to prepare food from chicken, river Fish, river shrimp and soya beans.
When cooking, we tend to keep the original taste of the ingredients.
So we will not use too much oil or spice, and stew is the main cooking method.
Shaoxing wine, also called yellow rice wine, is made from cooked rice or wheat.
The color of Shaoxing wine is brown and lucid, because of the natural pigment of rice, and a little caramel (焦糖)that is added.
One secret of the delicious Shaoxing cuisine is the addition of a small portion of Shaoxing wine. It makes the dish smell and taste so good!
Average family‘s income and expenses
As I said earlier, there are only few segments of traditional scenes left in downtown.
This is how the old downtown looks like.
I used to live here with my parents.
Now, I lives here, very close to the old downtown. There is a new central business block named Di Dang New City,
where there are biggest Shopping malls and highest buildings in Shaoxing, and I enjoy my apartment very much.
In China, only rich people can afford a house in cities. The majority people live in apartments.
This Di Dang New City.
Do you see a KFC?
I often go to this park for a walk in the evening. In summer, many children play with the musical fountain.
Water comes from small holes on the floor with different color lights, no one can stop these naughty children from stepping on it and getting wet all over.
In fact, people believe working hard is the only way to live better. So there are almost no severe criminal activities in Shaoxing.
Standard tuition at higher learning in China starting at $600 a year depending on the degree programs
