Rube Goldberg (1883-1970) was one of seven children born to Max and Hannah Goldberg in the United States. He studied engineering at university but became a cartoonist, drawing comically complicated machines that performed simple tasks. Goldberg married Irma Seeman in 1916 and they had two sons. He is best remembered for his cartoons depicting elaborate Rube Goldberg machines.
