This document contains summaries of shapes and patterns created using the Microworlds programming environment. It discusses using repeat commands to more concisely create squares, rectangles, triangles, pentagons, quadrilaterals, and patterns. Specific formulas are provided for shapes like an equilateral triangle, trapezium, and a flower pattern made from repeating circles.

2. SQUARE
Commands: Repeat 4[fd 100 rt 90] or fd 100, rt 90, fd 100, rt 90, fd 100, rt 90, fd 100, rt 90
To introduce us to the program ‘Microworlds’ we were given the simple task of making a square.
Most of us simply wrote the formula that first came into our head, mine being fd 100, rt 90 four times. We soon
found out though that we could write the same thing with ‘repeat’, a type of formula that you can use to say
the same thing but in a shorter and easier way.
A square is a rectangle, it simply has a special name because all the sides are equal.

3. RECTANGLE
Commands: Repeat 2[fd 100 rt 90 fd 200 rt 90]
Next we made a rectangle. Again a lot of us did fd 100 rt 90 fd 200 rt 90 twice, but some had learnt after
making the square that the repeat formula was a LOT easier. This is my rectangle.
I also learnt that to be a rectangle, a shape must have four sides and four equal angles.

4. TWO TRIANGLES
Scalene: FD 50 RT 140 FD 60 RT 120 FD 40 RT 100
Equilateral: REPEAT 3[RT 120 FD 100]
We than took on a more challenging shape, or rather as many of this shape as we could make.
A scalene is a triangle with three different angles and different sized edges. It was difficult to create one, but I
finally came up with one.
An equilateral triangle is a triangle with three equal angles and sides. It was much easier to make, as we were
able to create it with a repeat formula.

5. PENTAGON
Formula: REPEAT 5[FD 50 RT 72]
A pentagon is a shape with five straight sides and five angles.
The pentagon was another easy shape to make because we were able to use a repeat formula.
For this shape I used five obtuse angles.

6. QUADRILATERALS
Trapezium: RT 15 FD 50 RT 70 FD 50 RT 70 FD 50 RT 110 FD 85
Parallelogram: LT 30 FD 100 RT 120 FD 60 RT 55 FD 100 RT 120 FD 65
A quadrilateral is a shape with four straight sides and four angles. I made four quadrilaterals- a square, a rectangle, a
parallelogram and a trapezium.
A parallelogram is a shape with two pairs of parallel sides and it is a quadrilateral.
A trapezium is a shape that has two acute angles and two obtuse angles. It has four sides.

7. PATTERN

I started of creating a big circle(moon) and then making two overlapping crosses inside it. There are eight
acute angles and four right angles. It was hard to get the right formula to make the arrows because I didn’t
know whether to use a 90degree turn or a 135 one. I thought it looked a bit like a compass.

8. PATTERN

I made this pattern by repeat a circle then a another smaller one ten times. The black bit in the middle of the flower
was created by the repeated smaller circle. The circles on the outside, resembling petals, are in different spots because
I also repeated a small line joining everything. I stumbled across this pattern when I was simply playing around with the
repeat formula. If you repeat it a larger amount of times, the ‘petals’ will grow darker.
