2. ‘Bridesmaids,’ is a 2011 comedy about the events that take place between the engagement and
wedding of the main character’s best friend’s wedding. We see her unique attempt at handling her
responsibilities ad maid of honor and her failures in fulfilling her best friends wishes for her
wedding.
3. The trailer beings with soundtrack music playing in the background, as one of the main characters
announces their engagement to the main character. We are made aware that she is a character
that isn’t completely overjoyed with her responsibility as the maid of honor as she drinks alcohol
straight from the bottle, while looking very nervous, so we get a sense as to what kind of person
she is straight away.
4. After this scene the soundtrack changes from an already quite upbeat tune, to one that is even
more upbeat. This signifies a turning point, and we are shown the engagement party, and are
introduced to all the fellow bridesmaids. They are all shown one by one, and we are given snippets
of their character, as the soundtrack music stops at one point as each of the women speak and say
something humorous as this is a comedy film.
5. It is evident that the film is targeted at females as there is a mostly female cast and because
weddings are something that are more important to women than they are to men, making the target
audience very clear. Also, the focus on other things than the wedding, such as fears of being single
and being someone who just cooks and cleans for their family, are other issues that concern
women more than they concern men, emphasizing who they are targeting. Even the rivalry between
friends is something that women deal with more than men.
6. After the second turning point, after Annie says, ‘I’m ready to party,’ the music gets loader and the
lyrics can be heard more clearly, the cuts speed up and don’t show a continuous scene like they did
for the first half of the trailer, and the scenes we see are non linear as they go back and forth. The
trailer ends with a funny clip of the film to leave it on a humorous note.
