To Whom It May Concern:
I write in support of Mr. Brendan Dean, who is applying for a position as Project
Engineer/Construction Manager with your firm. Brendan recently completed a
BS in Construction Engineering Management at Oregon State University, and
during his time at OSU also served as a student intern with the OSU Facilities
Services group. I came to know Brendan through his work as an intern.
My research group recently made a significant upgrade to our research space.
This upgrade consisted of new lighting in each of five laboratories, paint in four
labs, addition of fume hoods to two labs, and conversion of one lab to a “clean
room”. Brendan was our primary contact for the majority of the work on this
project, and managed the work of both internal (OSU Facilities Services) and
external (private contractor) crews.
The clean room project was particularly complex. Here, a circa 1935 laboratory
was gutted, design work was completed, new lighting and positive pressure
HVAC/HEPA filtration systems were installed, new plumbing was added, a clean
room ceiling was installed, and door and window sealing requirements were
met. The requirements for the project were stringent and coordination of the
work of several crews was critical. During the project, research work continued
in spaces co-located with the clean room.
Clearly, Brendan was tasked with a very challenging (and potentially miserable!)
job in overseeing this project. He handled the job expertly: I was very
impressed. His communication with the customer (both me and my lab
manager) was timely, efficient, and professional. He kept the contractors
informed as the project progressed and got them the detailed information they
needed to perform their jobs well. When problems arose, he handled them
pleasantly and immediately, always to my satisfaction. After the project was
complete, he handled the usual startup glitches with the same friendly and
immediate care as he demonstrated during the project period, resulting in a
space that meets our needs quite well.
Brendan Dean was an excellent project director and demonstrated impressive
maturity, honesty, ability and technical skill in discharging his responsibilities
with my major laboratory renovation. He clearly has a grasp on how to keep
different groups with unique and important skills working together effectively,
and his customer service ethic is impressive. Brendan is a very capable
engineer, and I very much enjoyed working with him. I am very pleased to give
him my strongest recommendation. Should you have any questions about his
qualifications, please feel free to contact me via phone or e-mail.
Sincerely,
Vincent T. Remcho
