Branding
A brand is not a logo

A brand is not a song

A brand is not a style of
       clothing
A brand is a person’s gut feeling
about the music/band

It’s a GUT FEELING because people are
emotional, intuitive beings.
It's about how people FEEL when
they listen to your music
Rule #1 - Establish your
culture
Everything you do should reinforce
the "culture" of the band
- Lyrics
- Production
- Songwriting
- Artwork/Photography
- Social Media

All of these elements combined should paint a
picture in the mind of the audience. So that
when they hear your music, they can almost
see it like a movie.
Music is about creating tribes

People join different tribes for different activities

Beach Boys – Surfing
Deadmau5 – EDM/Ecstasy
Bob Marley – Reggae/weed
Rule #2 - Differentiate
There are over 1 million bands in the U.S.

How are you going to stand out?
Why is Differentiating Important?

1. People have too many choices and
too little time

2. Most bands have similar qualities
and production
FACT:

our brains act as filters to protect us from too
much information.

We are hardwired to notice only what’s different
Becoming a Charismatic brand
A CHARISMATIC BRAND is any
musician/group for which people believe there’s
no substitute.
How does the world see you?
One last thing...
Ask yourself the following 3 questions.

1. Where are you from?

2. What do you do?

3. What culture is an honest reflection of your
band?
