Brain Cell IT - About our company
1. Software analysed with brains.
Brain Cell IT
About our company
I used this presentation to talk for about 20
minutes about our company and what we
do, and this in schools or at universities or
for other acquintainces.
It is not the aim to go in detail about
analysis, but to give a global view.
The semi-transparant sticky notes denote
what is said during the presentation.
2. I have a background as consultant
developer in Microsoft environments
(.NET, C#, SQL Server) and I
worked for Capgemini at clients as
Exxon, government, Manpower and
others.
Currently I work as a consultant
analyst and I am founder, owner
and manager of my company where
I have all-round tasks (sales, HR,
PR, administration and so on).

4. This is our
headquarters.
In 2006 Brain Cell IT started with
consultancy activities. This means
we fulfill our assignments at our
customers. These assignments
consist of analysis tasks for software
projects, mainly functional analysis,
but sometimes also business
analysis based on the experience we
built up.
Our customers are big companies
and multinationals in different
sectors, mainly Banking and payroll
companies.

5. But first, where do we fit?
As well in the Waterfall model as
in Scrum an analysis period
before development is forseen
(in Scrum possibly in every
sprint).
But actually an analyst works in
every step of a project: (s)he Environments in which we often
helps in estimations, interacts work are:
•Microsoft .NET or Java with SQL
EVERYWHERE!
with the business analyst, with
the testers, with the developers Server, Oracle or other DBMS
and so on. •Windows and webapplications
We try to be technology
independent but we have to deal
with technical limitations.

6. Uh! Analysis?
An analyst is as an architect: an architect
sketches and writes down a blueprint on
behalf of the clients to be build by “Bob the
Builder”.
An analyst studies specific business
requirements of certain processes.
An analyst is a key player in a project.
An analysis is as a contract: it is used to
make agreements between the different
parties, to describe the functionalities, and
to define what is in and out of scope.
An analysis should clearly specify what will
be created and state what won’t be.
The analysis translates the business needs
to something which is understandable and
programmable by developers.

7. Deliverables
An analyst must document the system in a
clear and easy understandable way by
writing documents and drawing diagrams
and screen designs.
We do this with UML and use case
descriptions.
A picture is worth a thousand words. For
this reason, a diagram or a screen sketch
is a valuable element in business as well as
in functional analysis.

8. That’s not all Folks!
Which other tasks does the analyst have?
Interviewing, doing workshops, prioritizing
requirements, informing testers,
developers and other interested people
(stakeholders), drafting screen designs,
performing initial tests,...
That is why the analyst is a key player.
Tools we mostly use are Sparx Systems
Enterprise Architect and Microsoft Visio.
