Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

• This painting has been the center of a big controversy in recent days.
X has been known to have had more than his fair share of LSD in the
1970’s but he’s sure that what he’s been accused of isn’t possible. The
accuser is a former corrections officer who said he knew X while
working in a Canadian detention facility. However, X has compelling
evidence he was never near the facility, the Thunder Bay Correctional
Center, about 15 hours north of Toronto. “This case is a scam, and I’m
being forced to jump through hoops to prove my whereabouts over
40 years ago,” X said. Who is X and what is the controversy that he
has been embroiled in? (Pic on next slide)

• Brooklynites have recently welcomed home a monument in honour of the
fabled hometown resident. A 13-foot bronze statue commemorating the
75th birthday of X was unveiled in Prospect Park to the welcoming
applause of area fans. It will remain at the park for two weeks before
moving to Barclay’s Centre throughout the month of September. “This is
not an insignificant moment taking place on the stage of American history,
revealing a statue that is a reflection of the greatness of this country,”
said Brooklyn Borough president Eric L Adams.
• But some Brooklyn residents took offence to the statue being placed in
Prospect Park – which dates back to 1867. Green activists told the New
York Post that the park had been designated a commercial-free space
which this statue did not exactly satisfy. Who’s statue

When you think of world-famous Olympic athletes, the name
Peter Norman probably does not come to mind. Most people failed to
notice his presence in the event he participated in then and most
people still don’t know him. However people who did notice him were
indifferent to his “random” or “misplaced” presence on the podium.
But Italian writer Riccardo Gazzaniga recently uncovered the stunning
truth behind Peter Norman’s identity and said that he was instrumental
in what happened next and that he was in the loop the whole time. ‘In
fact he even gave suggestions to a dilemma that two of his competitors
were in’ said Gazzaniga. From where might we know Peter Norman
from?

This phrase is predominantly heard in blackjack tables around the
world but is not exclusive to it. The history of the quote began on the
Vegas strip where the bets made by people were typically in the range
of 2-5$ in small stakes games. In almost all casinos at the time, were
certain meals that would fit within this price range. So when a person
won a hand, he would be able to afford the items provided by the
hotel.
Bystanders and the dealer in some occasions would then repeat this
phrase indicating that he could now afford the meal. Which quote are
we talking about that had died down for a while but has become more
widespread in recent times?

• Though it is commonly thought of as a fruit and may be spotted
among grapes and kiwi’s, a X is actually a ball of flowers & requires
pollination. But because the flowers are sealed, not just any bug can
crawl inside. A X wasp specialises in this job. Mother wasps lay their
eggs in an unripe X. After their offspring hatch and mature, the males
mate and then chew a tunnel to the surface, dying when their task is
complete. When the insects discover the right specimen, they go
inside and deposit the pollen. Then the females lay new eggs, and the
cycle begins again.
• However a X’s entranceway is booby-trapped to destroy her wings, so
that she can never visit another plant. So when you eat a dried X,
you’re probably chewing X-wasp mummies, too.

X is an American science fiction crime drama and
talks about the mass surveillance conducted by the
government of the USA long before Edward Snowden
released anything about the NSA. The story revolves
around two people that try to prevent impending
violent crimes predicted by the Machine, a mass-
surveillance computer system that relays the identity
of a single person predicted to be the victim or
perpetrator of a crime.
Executive producers include the likes of J.J Abrams
and Y (less well known relative of a famous director).

Harper Lee modeled the neighbor boy Dill in ‘To kill a
mockingbird’ after X. As a child, X lived next door to Lee.
They played together and even shared Lee’s typewriter.
Both children were outside the social circles of their
close-knit Southern town. As Gerald Clarke wrote in X: A
Biography, “Nelle was too rough for most other girls, and
X was too soft for most other boys.”
X’s first book, Other Voices, Other Rooms, has a tomboy
character resembling Lee. At some point, a rumor started
that X wrote To Kill A Mockingbird, or at least edited it.
Aside from the fact that Lee’s writing sounds nothing like
X’s, he only saw the manuscript once.

Most people think that doping is for lazy people who want to avoid hard
work but according to some cyclists the opposite is true. Haematocrit is
factor closely looked at by cyclists and indicates the percentage of the body’s
blood that is made up of oxygen-carrying red blood cells. The higher the
haematocrit, the more endurance you have. The paradox of endurance
sports is that an athlete can never work as hard as he wants, because if he
pushes himself too far his haematocrit will fall.
So in the case of long events such as the Tour de France, a cyclist’s
haematocrit level would fall over the course of the race. To counteract this,
cyclists such as Lance Armstrong used an illegal hormone called EPO that
would help raise their haematocrit level. The question is, how would this
hormone be administered to the participants?

In fiction, a X is a plot device in the form of some goal, desired object,
or other motivator that the protagonist pursues, often with little or
no narrative explanation. The specific nature of a X is typically
unimportant to the overall plot. The most common type of X is an
object, place, or person.
The X technique is common in films, especially thrillers. Usually the X is
the central focus of the film in the first act, and thereafter declines in
importance. It may re-appear at the climax of the story, but sometimes
is actually forgotten by the end of the story.

X is an international non-governmental organisation of public
figures noted as elder statesmen, peace activists, and human rights
advocates, who were brought together by Nelson Mandela in 2007.
They describe themselves as "independent global leaders working
together for peace and human rights". The goal Mandela set for X was
to use their "almost 1,000 years of collective experience" to work on
solutions for seemingly insurmountable problems such as climate
change, HIV/AIDS, and poverty, as well as to "use their political
independence to help resolve some of the world's most
intractable conflicts". Identify the group and the current chairman who
took over when Mandela passed away and who is also of African origin.

• Nicaragua plans to break up a certain monopoly that has existed for
more than a 100 years. In June 2013, Nicaragua’s National Assembly
even approved a bill that gave a concession to finance and manage
the project headed by Wang Jing, a Chinese billionaire. Media reports
however have suggested the project would now be delayed or even
possibly canceled because Wang Jing's personal wealth declined
greatly as a result of the 2015–16 Chinese stock market crash. What
monopoly does Nicaragua want to break up despite fears of lack of
demand and feasibility?

• X was a young man plying his trade in club cricket in Perth. He was
expecting selection that year as Western Australia needed pacers in
the absence of Graham McKenzie and Laurie Mayne, who were on
national duty. X was representing his club when the announcement
was to be made. So, he asked his father to blow the horn of their car
if he was selected so that he gets to know on the field. When the
team was announced, X was in and his father duly hit the horn. In his
book, X recalls that “Spontaneously the other people seated in cars
around the ground began to sound their horns. It was the best tune
I’ve ever heard.”

Its name comes from the fact that it means "Like the Sky" or "Mirror of the Sky"
in Urdu. Designed by an English architect, the foundation stone for the
construction was laid by Sir Vicar on 3 March 1884 who closely monitored the
finishing work at the Mardana portion. It is made completely with Italian marble
and covers an area of 93,971 square meters. It was built in the shape of a
scorpion with two stings spread out as wings in the north. The middle part is
occupied by the main building and the kitchen, Gol Bangla, Zenana Mehal, and
harem quarters stretch to the south.
The influences of the owner, who was an avid traveler, show in the architecture.
It is a rare blend of Italian and Tudor architecture. Its stained glass windows
throw a spectrum of colour into the rooms. It even has a library with a carved
walnut roof; a replica of the one at Windsor Castle. What am I talking about?

• On January 27, 1994, the Barbados national football
team and Grenada national football team played against each other
as part of the qualification round for the 1994 Caribbean Cup.
Barbados required to win with a margin of two goals to qualify to the
next round. The match started off routinely, and Barbados scored two
goals, establishing the two-goal winning margin they needed. In the
83rd minute, however, the game changed when Grenada scored a
goal. This late goal would take Grenada through to the finals unless
Barbados could score again. Barbados attempted to score for the next
few minutes, but because they were unable to, they switched to an
alternate strategy. What happened next would confuse anyone even

• X is a rice dish that includes different combinations of vegetables and
meats, characteristically seasoned with saffron, but also has other
spices depending on the recipe and the area of the country from
which it originates. The dish is said to be a perfect union between 2
cultures; the Romans, for the pan and the Arab, that brought rice.
• There is an old story of how the Moorish kings' servants created rice
dishes by mixing the left-overs from royal banquets in large pots to
take home. It is said by some that that word X originates from the
Arab word “baqiyah” meaning left-overs. The term X actually refers to
the pan that it is cooked in.

portrait, depicting the painter himself. Few also know, that the
painting is part of a series of works with a similar theme. On being
asked the meaning behind his work, X says,”Everything we see hides
another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see.
There is an interest in that which is hidden and which the visible does

a sort of conflict, one might say, between the visible that is hidden
and the visible that is present. ID the painting and the artist.

• Literally meaning ‘peace be upon you’, X is a traditional song sung by
Jews every Friday night upon returning home from synagogue prayer.
It signals the arrival of the Jewish Sabbath, welcoming the angels who
accompany a person home on the eve of the Sabbath. According to
Talmud, two angels accompany people on their way back home
from synagogue on Friday night — a good angel and an evil angel. If
the house has been prepared for the Shabbat ("the lamp has been lit,
the table set, and his couch spread"), the good angel utters a blessing
that the next Shabbat will be the same, and the evil angel is forced to
respond "Amen". But if the home is not prepared for Shabbat, the evil
angel expresses the wish that the next Shabbat will be the same, and
the good angel is forced to respond "Amen".

basic tools for interpretation of the spectra of stars in astrophysics. By
studying the spectra of various stars, one can find their temperature
using the X equation, determine the ionisation state of the various
elements making up the star. He has been nominated for the Nobel

The towers of Hanoi is a relatively famous logical puzzle. It consists of
three rods, and a number of disks of different sizes which can slide onto
any rod. The puzzle starts with the disks in a neat stack in ascending

shape.
The objective of the puzzle is to move the entire stack to another rod,
obeying certain simple rules such as only one disk can be moved at a
time and no disk may be placed on top of a smaller disk. However in
India, this game is known by another name.
142. TIE BREAKER
• The origin of X is traced to textile mill workers in Mumbai in the
1850s. The mill workers used to have lunch breaks too short for a full
meal, and a light lunch was preferred to a heavy one, as the
employees had to return to strenuous physical labour after lunch. A
vendor created this dish using items or parts of other dishes available
on the menu. Roti or rice was replaced with something else and the
curries that usually go with Indian bread or rice were amalgamated
into just one spicy concoction. Initially, it remained the food of the
mill-workers. With time the dish found its way into restaurants and
spread over Central Mumbai and other parts of the city via the Udupi
restaurants. Which dish?
