The document discusses degree apprenticeships in the UK, including their history, how they work, available degree topics and sectors, duration, benefits, and learning outcomes. Degree apprenticeships combine full-time paid work with part-time university study, allowing candidates to earn a bachelor's or master's degree while gaining practical job training. Apprentices spend time at university and with their employer. This helps students apply their learning in a hands-on work environment.

This was part of a workshop presentation l did a couple of years back for Flight Centre UK looking at language in the workplace and the impact on performance and leadership. It's been interesting to see recent to see the views on 'SlideShare' of this work. 'Psycholinguistics' has always been a huge part of my Uni studies and my work. It's helped to understand 1. How we process and 2. What we can learn from the language we use and how that in turn can interfere with behaviours. Demonstrated by the modality of Related Frame Theory which is a powerful tool in decoding behaviours, and habits human habits from speech around machine/technology referred to as (Psychotechnology). Just to be absolutely clear I’m not talking about Neuro Linguistic programming. But Natural Language Processing which is a branch of AI that looks at the interaction between computers and humans using natural language. I believe there are cross functional connections that we can use to enhance the learning elements of machine learning

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. Presentation outline Part 1
• In the first part of the presentation l will demonstrate my understanding of
Degree Apprenticeships.
• I’ll be touching on:
• History and why they came about.
• How they work and their purpose.
• Degree topics/sectors available now and those in development.
• Duration and availability.
• The benefits.
• Learning outcomes.
3. Presentation outline Part 2
• I will attempt to outline how l will support learners as
a Skills and Development Coach.
• Experience and skill set.
4. History + Progression
• In In 2015, the UK Government rolled out the degree apprenticeship
programme which was developed as part of the higher apprenticeship
standard.
• These were introduced as a way to …....
• The programme is the equivalent of a masters or bachelor's degree which
offers a level 6 – 7 qualification.
• Due to their success, as the scope for degree apprenticeships expands so
does the range of universities and employers offering opportunities.
5. How they work + Purpose
• Degree apprenticeships are being developed and created
by by employers, universities, and professional bodies
working in partnership.
• Apprentices are employed throughout the programme,
and spend part of their time at university and the rest with
their employer.
• This can be on a day-to-day basis or in blocks of time,
depending on the programme and requirements of the
employer.
• Combines full-time paid work and part-time university study
to offer candidates the opportunity to gain a full Bachelors
or Masters degree while partaking in practical, on-the-job
training.
6. The application
process and options
• Apprenticeships are jobs and so employers are
ultimately responsible for recruitment.
• Both employers and universities will need to be
satisfied the applicant meets their respective
requirements.
• Apprentices will complete an assessment at the end
of the programme, which tests both academic
learning and occupational competence developed
through on-the-job training.
• It is likely that some employers and universities will
therefore do recruitment jointly.
• As with other apprenticeships, employers may choose
to advertise vacancies on the 'Find an
apprenticeship' website.
7. How they differ from sandwich degrees and work placements?
• Degree apprenticeships build on the existing models of sandwich degrees
(spending a year in industry) and work placements (doing industry placements in
term time or holidays), but differ in several key ways:
• Degree apprentices are employed throughout and are doing paid work from day
one.
• Employers may view these apprenticeships as a way of recruiting top prospective
graduates.
• Degree apprentices are likely to have a greater attachment to their employer, and
already being employed means they are more likely to stay with that company
afterwards. Retention rates for apprentices can exceed 80%.
• In cases where a new degree is developed, employers will be able to work with
universities to shape the overall degree programme and all aspects of their
apprentice's training.
8. Duration & Availability
Between three to six years
to complete, depending on
the course level.
The scheme is relatively
new and only available
in England and Wales,
although applications may
be made from all parts of
the UK.
