This document contains summaries of several passages from the Book of Matthew in the Bible. It describes the birth of Jesus Christ, the visit of the Magi, Jesus being tempted by the devil in the desert, teachings by Jesus on prayer and not worrying, Jesus healing many people and casting out demons, Jesus restoring sight to two blind men, and the parable of the talents where Jesus teaches about being a faithful servant of God.
When you believe, you can do anything. This concept is heard everywhere, but it was solidified by the teachings of Jesus. He said that we could move mountains if we had faith.
What would our world be like had Christ never lived? What if He had not died or rose again? Unbelievers face a chaotic world without the benefit of Jesus and his peace.
The good heart is the one that receives the word of God (seed) and it takes deep roots, grows and produces fruits for the glory of God. Learn through this presentation about "the good heart"

How is COVID-19 different from previous pandemics in history? How does the Coronavirus compare to future pestilences prophesied in the Bible? Do you think God sent the Coronavirus as a harbinger of future pandemics? If so, what should be learn about God and ourselves during COVID-19? As Christians how should we respond to pandemics? Do you have peace and hope? Why? How is your life, currently, giving others, especially non-Christians, cause to ask you for “an answer (lit. the reason) for the hope that lies in you”? (1 Peter 3:15)
Ezekiel lived among the Exiles in Babylon. He received an overwhelm vision of God who commissioned him to be His messenger to the the people living in exile. The first 24 chapters concern the coming destruction of Jerusalem as God's judgment on Israel's unfaithfulness. The second half contain promises of restoration.
What prevents the non-believing world from truly knowing who Jesus is? (Jn. 1:10-12; 2 Cor. 2:14) Why didn’t Pilate know what Truth was when the One who is Truth was standing only a few feet from him? (John 18:33-38) Why didn’t the disciples understand who Christ was though they had spent three solid years with Him? Why didn’t the disciples on the Emmaus Road know who Jesus was though He had already risen from the dead and reports of His resurrection had been announced to His disciples? (Luke 24:13-35)

Mr. Henry Sike, Professor of Oriental Languages at Cambridge, first translated and published this Gospel in 1697. It was received by the Gnostics, a sect of Christians in the second century, and several of its relations were credited in the following ages by other Christians, viz., Eusebius, Athanasius, Epiphanius, Chrysostom, &c. Sozomen says, he was told by many, and he credits the relations, of the idols in Egypt falling down on Joseph, and Mary's flight thither with Christ; and of Christ making a well to wash his clothes in a sycamore tree, from whence balsam afterwards proceeded. These stories are from this Gospel. Chemnitlus out of Stipulensis, who had it from Peter Martyr, Bishop of Alexandria, in the third century, says, that the place in Egypt where Christ was banished is now called Matarea, about ten miles beyond Cairo; that the inhabitants constantly burn a lamp in remembrance of it; and that there is a garden of trees yielding a balsam, which were planted by Christ when a boy. M. La Crosse cites a synod at Angamala, in the mountains of Malabar, A.D. 1599, which condemns this Gospel as commonly read by the Nestorians in that country. Ahmed Ibn Idris, a Mahometan divine, says, it was used by some Christians in common with the other four Gospels; and Ocobius de Castro mentions a Gospel of Thomas, which he says, he saw and had translated to him by an Armenian Archbishop at Amsterdam, that was read in very many churches of Asia and Africa, as the only rule of their faith. Fabricius takes it to be this Gospel. It has been supposed, that Mahomet and his coadjutors used it in compiling the Koran. There are several stories believed of Christ proceeding from this Gospel; as that which Mr. Sike relates out of La Brosse's Persic Lexicon, that Christ practised the trade of a dyer, and his working a miracle with the colours; from whence the Persian dyers honour him as their patron, and call a dye-house the shop of Christ. Sir John Chardin mentions Persian legends concerning Christ's dispute with his schoolmaster about his A B C; and his lengthening the cedar-board which Joseph sawed too short.

(Matthew 1: 18-25)
18 Now this is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but
before they lived together, she was found with child through the Holy Spirit.
19 Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce
her quietly.
20 Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph,
son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the Holy Spirit that
this child has been conceived in her.
21 She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son,
and they shall name him Emmanuel,”
which means “God is with us.”
24 When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home.
25 He had no relations with her until she bore a son, and he named him Jesus.
(Luke 2:1-20)
1 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled.
2 This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
3 So all went to be enrolled, each to his own town.
4 And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called
Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,
5 to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
6 While they were there, the time came for her to have her child,
7 and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger,
because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock.
9 The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck
with great fear.
10 The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be
for all the people.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

4. 18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother
Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they
came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy
Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man
and did not want to expose her to publi`c disgrace, he had in
mind to divorce her quietly. 20 But after he had considered this,
an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,
"Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as
your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy
Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the
name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."
22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the
prophet: 23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a
son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with
us." 24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the
Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25
But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And
he gave him the name Jesus.

6. 1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during
the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to
Jerusalem 2 and asked, "Where is the one who has
been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the
east and have come to worship him." 3 When King
Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem
with him. 4 When he had called together all the
people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked
them where the Christ was to be born. 5 "In Bethlehem
in Judea," they replied, "for this is what the prophet has
written: 6 "'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for
out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of
my people Israel.'" 7 Then Herod called the Magi
7. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and make
a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him,
report to me, so that I too may go and worship him." 9
After they had heard the king, they went on their way,
and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of
them until it stopped over the place where the child
was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.
11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his
mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped
him. Then they opened their treasures and presented
him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. 12
And having been warned in a dream not to go back to
Herod, they returned to their country by another route.
8.
9. 1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert
to be tempted by the devil. 2 After fasting forty
days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The
tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son
of God, tell these stones to become bread." 4
Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live
on bread alone, but on every word that comes
from the mouth of God.'" 5 Then the devil took him
to the holy city and had him stand on the highest
point of the temple. 6 "If you are the Son of God,"
he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written: "'He
will command his angels concerning you, and they
will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not
10. 7 Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do
not put the Lord your God to the test.'" 8
Again, the devil took him to a very high
mountain and showed him all the kingdoms
of the world and their splendor. 9 "All this I
will give you," he said, "if you will bow down
and worship me." 10 Jesus said to him,
"Away from me, Satan! For it is written:
'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him
only.'" 11 Then the devil left him, and angels
came and attended him
11.
12. 5 "And when you pray, do not be like the
hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the
synagogues and on the street corners to be seen
by men. I tell you the truth, they have received
their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into
your room, close the door and pray to your Father,
who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what
is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you
pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they
think they will be heard because of their many
words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father
knows what you need before you ask him.
13. 9 "This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father
in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your
kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is
in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12
Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our
debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from the evil one. ' 14 For if you forgive
men when they sin against you, your heavenly
Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not
forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive
your sins.
14.
15. 25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,
what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you
will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the
body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds
of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not
much more valuable than they? 27 Who of you by
worrying can add a single hour to his life? 28 "And why
do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the
field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that
not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like
one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of
the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into
the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little
faith?
16. 31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we
eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What
shall we wear?' 32 For the pagans run
after all these things, and your heavenly
Father knows that you need them. 33 But
seek first his kingdom and his
righteousness, and all these things will be
given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not
worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will
worry about itself. Each day has enough
trouble of its own.
17.
18. 14 When Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw
Peter's mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. 15
He touched her hand and the fever left her, and
she got up and began to wait on him. 16 When
evening came, many who were demon-possessed
were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits
with a word and healed all the sick. 17 This was to
fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
"He took up our infirmities and carried our
diseases."
19.
20. 18 While he was saying this, a ruler came and
knelt before him and said, "My daughter has just
died. But come and put your hand on her, and she
will live." 19 Jesus got up and went with him, and
so did his disciples. 20 Just then a woman who
had been subject to bleeding for twelve years
came up behind him and touched the edge of his
cloak. 21 She said to herself, "If I only touch his
cloak, I will be healed." 22 Jesus turned and saw
her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has
healed you." And the woman was healed from that
moment.
21. 23 When Jesus entered the ruler's
house and saw the flute players and
the noisy crowd, 24 he said, "Go away.
The girl is not dead but asleep." But
they laughed at him. 25 After the crowd
had been put outside, he went in and
took the girl by the hand, and she got
up. 26 News of this spread through all
that region.
22.
23. 27 As Jesus went on from there, two blind
men followed him, calling out, "Have mercy
on us, Son of David!" 28 When he had gone
indoors, the blind men came to him, and he
asked them, "Do you believe that I am able to
do this?Yes, Lord," they replied. 29 Then he
touched their eyes and said, "According to
your faith will it be done to you"; 30 and their
sight was restored. Jesus warned them
sternly, "See that no one knows about this."
31 But they went out and spread the news
about him all over that region.
24.
25. 25 At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of
heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things
from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little
children. 26 Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.
27 "All things have been committed to me by my Father. No
one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows
the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son
chooses to reveal him. 28 "Come to me, all you who are
weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my
yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and
humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For
my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
26.
27. 14 "Again, it will be like a man going on a journey,
who called his servants and entrusted his property
to them. 15 To one he gave five talents of money,
to another two talents, and to another one talent,
each according to his ability. Then he went on his
journey. 16 The man who had received the five
talents went at once and put his money to work
and gained five more. 17 So also, the one with the
two talents gained two more. 18 But the man who
had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in
the ground and hid his master's money.
28. 19 "After a long time the master of those servants
returned and settled accounts with them. 20 The
man who had received the five talents brought the
other five. 'Master,' he said, 'you entrusted me with
five talents. See, I have gained five more.' 21 "His
master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful
servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I
will put you in charge of many things. Come and
share your master's happiness!'
29. • 22 "The man with the two talents also came. 'Master,' he
said, 'you entrusted me with two talents; see, I have
gained two more.' 23 "His master replied, 'Well done,
good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a
few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come
and share your master's happiness!' 24 "Then the man
who had received the one talent came. 'Master,' he said,
'I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you
have not sown and gathering where you have not
scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid
your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to
you.'
30. • 26 "His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you
knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather
where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you
should have put my money on deposit with the bankers,
so that when I returned I would have received it back with
interest. 28 "'Take the talent from him and give it to the
one who has the ten talents. 29 For everyone who has
will be given more, and he will have an abundance.
Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken
from him. 30 And throw that worthless servant outside,
into the darkness, where there will be weeping and
gnashing of teeth.'
