2. A SMALL BIOGRAPHY
OF HIS LIFE…
Bob Kurtz was the founder of
the Burbank animation studio
Kurtz & Friends. He is a
director, producer and artist, he
is world famous for his
contributions to the art form that
in itself is a title sequence. Bob
studied art at Chouinard Art
Institute founded in 1921 by
Nelbert Murphy Chouinard
(now the California school of
art) which as stated is known
to be a highly prestigious school
of art. Has worked on films and
TV commercials including;
Jurassic Park, Pink Panther and
Honey I blew up the kids.
3. Bob Kurtz
Bob Kurtz Born in Los Angeles California,
graduated Chouinard art institute. He then spent
the next year of his life working as a trainee
writer/director at the world famous Walt Disney
Studios. Then going onto spent the following two
years teaching the character animation program
at the art institute he studied at.
Even to this day he is still very much involved in
his education as once a year he hires a recent art
graduate for on-the-job training and “pencil testing”.
4. Bob Kirtz work
He’s most recent completed segment was for
Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report, Other recent
pieces of his work (projects) were… The
Crocodile anti-smoking film and print campaign
for the California Department of Health Services
and interactive games for Disney. He also
created How Things Work, the 3- screen, 3-d
multi-media film for Sony’s San Francisco
Metreon complex.

Kurtz is the recipient of numerous
including an Emmy for the PBS special Roman
City, the Peabody Award for the Lily Tomlin
special Edith Ann’s Christmas, the Annie Award
for Lifetime Achievement and even more with
250 international awards. His films have been
included in the permanent collections of the
Museum of Modern Art New York, the Los
Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles.

“Animation is very closely related to the dance. To be
aware of this is to realize the film form is choreography
in time, space, sound and light. In our films we try to
develop as many styles and approaches as the
opportunity provides… My role in these films is writer,
director and producer but Kurtz & Friends is far from a
one man studio, it is a group effort of incredibly
talented and dedicated artists.”
