Green energy - The sustainable energy source of the future 01262016Tony Green
Today we primarily use fossil fuels to heat and power our homes and fuel our cars. It’s convenient to use coal, oil, and natural gas for meeting our energy needs, but we have a limited supply of these fuels on the Earth. We’re using them much more rapidly than they are being created. Eventually, they will run out.

As a club, our mission is to promote diversity throughout the Goizueta community
and the greater Atlanta area. We will strive to do just that in many ways this year
through dynamic programming, community involvement, and collaboration. You can
look forward to events with highly influential Csuite guest speakers and more
opportunities to give back to the community through partnerships with organizations
such as the United Way.
In addition, social events such as a trip to see the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater and
Stomp the Yard K.E.G.S will celebrate the uniqueness and richness of Black
culture. We also recognize the importance of being a proactive voice in
current events that are affecting our daily wellbeing such as the #blacklivesmatter
movement, the 2016 election, and working with MBA admissions to increase black
enrollment for all programs.
What do we need from you? We need you to be supportive of all events, pass this
magazine on to other alumni and classmates, and voice your opinion throughout the
school year on how Black MBA can better serve you.
Here’s to one amazing year!

7. t was the start of the school year. We were
excited to be back on campus; to be
reunited with our classmates; to share our
summer internships experiences; and to go
over the newly minted programs we have
designed for the year which are centered
around community development and
partnerships; diversity and inclusion; and
socials. And that was the case for a few
weeks until our minute of hope became our
minute of uncertainty.
Our minute of hope began at our first
association meeting. For the second
consecutive year we had Dean Erika James
as our guest speaker. We were fired up by
her personal story of empowerment,
determination, resilience, achievements,
and humility. It was a story that everyone in
attendance could relate to; it was a story
that is often told in our communities and it
was a story that sends chills down my spine
and goosebumps all over. Our minute of
hope continued as we volunteered with
United Way to mentor young teens in career
prep and readiness and clean and paint
buildings at the Empire Board of Realists.
A few weeks later, Dean James returned to
speak to students at a community
conversation held by our administration to
address current events in regard to
inclusion, provide context on
#BlackLivesMatter, and inform our
community on diversity and strategy for
Goizueta led by dean Brian Mitchell. But this
time she was not full of excitement rather
she was full of tears. She was not able to fire
us up rather we all sat in sorrow as she
shared her story. Our minute of hope had
suddenly turned into a minute of
uncertainty. She recounted the time when
she had just relocated to the predominantly
White neighborhood of Buckhead Atlanta
and how she walked from house to house
with her 14 year old son in her hand to
introduce him to neighbors just so he was
not shot and killed. Few days later, the Black
MBA Association organized a school wide
event, not to share internship experiences,
or to talk about newly minted programs but
to ask everyone in the Emory community to
join us as we stand against oppression and
demonstrate our support for the Black Lives
Matter movement.
Our minute of hope has turned into a
minute of uncertainty. However, we shall not
relent in our pursuit for equal justice and
equal opportunity. We shall not relent until
our hope can be sustained. We shall not
relent until uncertainty ceased to be the
norm in our communities. We shall not
relent until our minute of hope no longer
mean a minute of uncertainty. I am proud
that The Black MBA Association will
continue to find ways to collaborate with
our communities to mentor, support,
inspire, and spread the message of love and
inclusion.
