Young people are powerful agents of change and progress when they are educated and empowered to participate in decision-making. Yet around the world, too many youth are being left behind.

Happy International Youth Day and welcome to the latest update of UNDP Asia Pacific’s Youth
Empowerment initiative. This year, the theme for International Youth Day is “Safe Spaces for Youth”.
This refers to civic spaces, physical public spaces and digital spaces which allow young people to engage
in decision making, participate fully in their communities and interact virtually with others across
borders. In order for young people to be able to effectively contribute to social and economic
development, it is crucial that these spaces are inclusive of all youth.
In many countries in the Asia-Pacific region, as in the rest of the world, youth are effectively excluded
from decision making and political forums, and their access to and participation in public spaces is
restricted. This is particularly true for young women and other marginalised youth, and further
entrenches existing social tensions and inequalities.

When 193 nation's ratified the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals, there was strong consensus that young people's actions were critical to achieving the Goals. YSA
The past decade has been marked by increased public awareness of the mistreatment of older persons both in Canada and worldwide. Achievements have been marked by innovation and creativity, policy and program development and legislation. The Community Guide to Raise
World Awareness on Adult Abuse was a initial step to assist communities develop prevention plans.
It is now the 5th anniversary since the launch of the initial guide and many new initiatives have taken place across the globe in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Given the increased availability of elder abuse resources internationally it was determined that the guide could be enhanced with the inclusion of new and additional material. We are grateful to the Department of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) who have generously provided the financial resources to undertake the revision of the guide. With this support a draft revision is now available for review and comment by those in the field of elder abuse prevention. The Canadian government has long been a forerunner in the global prevention of elder mistreatment and is recognized as a leader in the field.
The revision of this guide together with the development of a companion document, “Teen Elder Abuse Awareness Kit” which has been funded through the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) reinforces the Canadian Government‟s commitment to increasing elder abuse awareness globally. Together these two resources will be a powerful contribution and resource for any organization or person interested in minimising the
instances of elder abuse.
We also acknowledge with thanks the original authors of the guide; Charmaine Spencer, Elizabeth Podnieks, Susan Somers, and other members of the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse
(INPEA) and the Canadian Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (CNPEA). We are building on the earlier work and look forward to a completed document that reflects the enormous progress made in the last five years. Appreciation is also extended to International Federation on Ageing (IFA) for joining this exciting venture.

On 30 December in Youth office in Belgrade Milena Milićević from The Faculty of Engineering Management held a lecture where she shared her impressions from One Young World Summit (OYW) in Johannesburg where she represented Serbia in October 2013. She explained to the motivated people, students and young professionals, in which international projects they can take part.
The international Summit ''One Young World'' was initiated by Kate Robertson and David Jones, working at media agency Havas so that young people, aged 18-30 get engaged in projects and start developing their leadership skills and international communication. Summit One Young World is because of the quality of young delegates and councellors conceptualized like ’’Davos for 25-year olds.’’ During OYW prominent councellors worked with delegates, including Richard Branson, Nobel Laureatte Mohammed Yunus, Arianna Huffington, Bob Geldof, Kofi Annan, Boris Becker, Jamie Oliver and other people.
In her lecture, Milena Milićević introduced global initiatives and knowledge that she obtained in the following fields: fundraising, community organizing, gender equality and health protection for youth, entrepreneurship, sustainable development, travels for youth and media. Moreover, Milena thanked to her friends who helped her go to Summit due to Indiegogo campaign and to companies which donated money for her endeavour: EXIT Foundation, Telekom Serbia, Elektrovojvodina and Infostud.
In 2014 we should expect lectures about entrepreneurship, sustainable development and gender equality from Milena and her team so that we encourage initiatives of young people in Serbia and that we become part of regional and global projects within the organization ''One Young World.''

Young Entrepreneurs
6. IrisMagazine
Entrepreneurship is the most effective way to establish true prosperity.
Only entrepreneurship can create sustainable wealth – the wealth that
comes from employment and ownership, and that results in thriving
markets and a healthy society. Only entrepreneurship can create
opportunity where none seemingly exists. Tounderstand why this is so
critical, consider: By 2020,122 million Africans will enter the labor force.
The number of new jobs that must be created to accommodate this
demographic explosion is enormous. Added to this are tens of millions
currently unemployed or underemployed, making the human and
economic consequences nearly too large to imagine if job creation is not
seen as a priority. Africa is rich in entrepreneurial energy and talent. Many
African entrepreneurs are already running home-grown businesses and
have deep insights into local consumer demand; they can spot unique gaps
in the market for specific products and services. These are the people who
can fuel Africa’s future, but who often lack the capital, training and
support to take their small businesses to a national or regional scale. In
Nigeria alone, 95 per cent of start-ups fail in the first year, largely due to
regulatory and infrastructure issues. Butmany more of them can succeed
with the right support and the right enabling environment
I have so much belief in the potential of nascent and budding African
entrepreneurs that I have committed to support them directly the next
generation. This competition is designed to identify 100 East African
Young entrepreneurs every year over the next decade and provide them
with much needed training, mentoring, financing, and networking.
To the rest I say, “Will you join me?” My commitment to entrepreneurship
is unbounded. I count myself among those who believe that five
entrepreneurs transformed the U.S. into what it is today – John D.
Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford and J.P.
Morgan. Now it is Africa’s turn. But I myself can only do so much. Let us
work together to support Africa’s entrepreneurs – IRIS and millions like us
– and secure Africa’s future.
