RAILWAY AND ITS IMPORTANCE TO THE
DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM INDUSTRY OF
BANGLADESH
BANGLADESH RAILWAYS(BR):
 BANGLADESH RAILWAY is Government-owned and Government
managed transportation agency of the country.
 Bangladesh Railway, a principal transportation agency, serving large
numbers of population of the country for a long period of time.
 As railway is a very important mode of inland transport, its healthy
growth naturally contributes to the economic development of the
country. But BR, at present, has been suffering from various
operating problems.
HISTORY OF BANGLADESH RAILWAY
 Railway started its journey in
this portion of the sub-continent
165 years ago.
 Historically Bangladesh owned
the Railway network, which was
a part of the sub-continent.
 BR has given emphasis to
connect its network with every
District Head Quarter.

-To play an important and dominant
role in an integrated transport system
for the country by emphasizing its
strengths.

-Providing railway network it
will be possible to build a
pollution free country.
-Introducing train related
information which contribute
towards the implementation of
Digital Bangladesh.
IMPORTANCE & CONTRIBUTION
1. Rail is the best way to carry heavy loads.
2. Available in every countries
3.Can pass huge passengers at a time.
4.Less accidents occur as a result less risky.
5.Journey is done at reasonable cost.
RAIL ROUTE IN BANGLADESH
PROBLEMS OF BANGLADESH RAILWAY
1.Tracks, locomotives and rolling stock are relatively in poor
condition.
2.Majority projects are unplanned and economically non-viable.
3. Lack of capacity building and lack of proper servicing
facilities.
4.Delay in finalization of tenders.
4. The development projects are not implemented due to lack of
skilled and efficient personnel.
5. Delay in implementation of the projects .
PROSPECTS OF BANGLADESH RAILWAY
1. Both the port cities are connected to the capital.
2. Yet, much more safer than the road transportation.
3. The cheapest and most comfortable .
4. Direct access between north and southeast of
Bangladesh.
5. As the railway has direct link with the cities, it saves
travelling time.
PROSPECTS OF BANGLADESH RAILWAY
6. There are significant reductions in the vehicle operating
costs as well.
7. Remains active in emergencies (natural calamities,
political instabilities etc.)
8. Better transport facility for bulk commodities and
container services to carry faster to the Northwest region
of the country.

BANGLADESH RAILWAY
To make Bangladesh Railway a profit-driven and market-oriented commercial
organization, the adaptation of a market-led philosophy by BR is utmost
important.
The Marketing Objectives of BR must be:
• practical and realistic
• linked to overall Corporate Objectives; and
• relevant and responsive to the actual needs of customers
Marketing objectives must reflect the principal thrusts of the Corporate Plan.
