The spinal cord receives its blood supply primarily from the anterior spinal artery and posterior spinal arteries. These long arteries run the length of the spinal cord and receive blood from segmental medullary arteries that branch off from the vertebral arteries. Damage to the blood vessels that supply the spinal cord can result in spinal cord ischemia and potentially permanent neurological deficits.
