This document discusses the deep tech ecosystem and how blockchain fits within it. It provides a timeline of major technological developments from 1974 to present day, including web 2.0, cloud computing, social media, the mobile app economy, Google's neural machine translation in 2016, and statements from investors in 2017 emphasizing the importance of artificial intelligence, machine learning, internet of things, and decentralized computing. The conclusion is that blockchain, along with AI, machine learning, internet of things, and decentralized computing are key technologies of the deep tech ecosystem.
One of the criticisms we’ve all heard about the Agile methodology is that it encourages mediocrity. It clouds our long-term vision with small-scale “quick wins” and forces us to focus on gradual improvements on an unambitious existing product. This talk aims to dispel this myth by distinguishing the difference between vision and process. The truth is that Agile does not stifle creativity, it does not prevent us from looking further into the future. I’ll give real-world examples of ways teams can continue to foster their long-term ambitions whilst maintaining a process which focusses on the here-and-now.
Negotiating contracts as user experiences - WIAD Rome 2016Jacopo Romei
Usually deals and contracts have a flaw: they are designed around deliverables and penalties rather than on the relationship between involved people or organisations.
This happens despite contracts should deliver an experience, like all other human artifacts which are not just an object or a service.
Collaboration around a common shared goal: this is the experience to look for.
What is trust and what does it mean? I'll explore the concept of trust, why it's so important, boundaries and context, how we can earn it and what it means for business. I'll illustrate how we might leverage trust to design products and services that encourage an equitable society.

Texas AMA Agency x Seekr Final PresentationMira McKee
This is the end-of-semester final presentation that my team and I created detailing all of the work we did for our client, Seekr, through the Texas AMA Agency program. As Account Manager, I led our team to a successful semester where we helped Seekr with social media strategy, content creation, event planning, and more!
Everyday I hear Scrum Masters asking what they can do to improve their skills. Despite there is a lot of knowledge available today, they are struggling with getting valuable hints. Since I started my Scrum Master journey years ago I’ve tried plenty of approaches to speed up my growth — with various results. Some things didn’t worked at all, some were just fine, but some exceeded my expectations a lot and accelerated my growth as a Scrum Master exponentially. Many of my decisions put me out of my comfort zone, but from today’s perspective it was definitely worth it. During my talk I will share top things that worked for me and also for Scrum Masters which I support on daily basis as an Agile Coach.
I Quit. Next Steps to Take When Blinded by the Market.David Aferiat
The first wave of Big Data focused on the insight possible from the enormous amount of data our actions generate. The second wave will focus on how such insight leads to automated decisions. This presentation describes how Trade Ideas is riding this trend for better decisions when trading in the markets.
2024: A Travel Odyssey The Role of Generative AI in the Tourism UniverseSimone Puorto
This presentation examines how Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is reshaping the travel sector. It discusses how AI-driven personalization offers unique travel suggestions, such as accommodations, activities, and dining, tailored to individual preferences. The speech also highlights AI's role in breaking language barriers making international travel more accessible through advanced translation tools. Another aspect is Meta-Travel, where GenAI, combined with Extended Reality, creates virtual previews of destinations. The talk also covers AI's influence on revenue and yield management through dynamic pricing models and its application in customer support with round-the-clock AI chatbots. The overall theme of the speech is the transformative potential of GenAI in travel, enhancing planning, experiences, sustainability, and safety. It underscores how this technology can lead to personalized, enriching journeys, marking a new era in travel innovation and exploration.

Should we have a pedagogy of technology?Ashley Casey
In this paper I argue for the need to develop a pedagogy of technology that encourages us to use all technology only as a means of educating children and young people for the 21st Century.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Generating a custom Ruby SDK for your web service or Rails API using Smithyg2nightmarescribd
Have you ever wanted a Ruby client API to communicate with your web service? Smithy is a protocol-agnostic language for defining services and SDKs. Smithy Ruby is an implementation of Smithy that generates a Ruby SDK using a Smithy model. In this talk, we will explore Smithy and Smithy Ruby to learn how to generate custom feature-rich SDKs that can communicate with any web service, such as a Rails JSON API.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
