The Black Panther Party was an African American revolutionary socialist organization active in the United States from 1966 to 1982 that was led by Huey P. Newton and formed to protect local communities from police brutality, rape, and racism by patrolling the streets armed. They also started their own medical clinics and provided free food to school children.
