3. Make use of biotechnology or other advanced life science
Methodologies in the creation
Alteration of life forms or processes
BIO-INDUSTRY IS AN INDUSTRY
THAT:
4. The development of bio-industries can
be dated to the early 20th century.
5. Recombinant bacteria and yeast were
used to create novel medications like:
erythropoietin Coagulation modulators
enzymes hormones
And various other agents like:
becaplermin hepatitis-B vaccine
Anti-bodies TNF
6. Here are some examples of biotechnology
products using different kinds of methods:
10. How did bio-industry grow?
In January 1976, Herbert Boyer, Robert Swanson and a partner at
the firm Kleiner and Perkins made the 1st publicly-owned
biotechnology called Genentech that was founded on April 7th, 1976
with no assets, equipment, or even a secretary.
The goal is for groundbreaking science to discover and develop
medicines for people with serious and life-threatening diseases.
It was build in South San Francisco.
11. DNA fingerprinting was invented in 1984 by Professor Sir Alec
Jeffreys in the Department of Genetics at the University of
Leicester. He realised you could detect variations in human
DNA, in the form of these minisatellites.
When was the first DNA fingerprinting done?
DNA fingerprinting was first used in forensic science in 1986 when police in the UK
requested Dr. Alec J. Jeffreys, of University of Leicester, to verify a suspect's
confession that he was responsible for two rape-murders.
How did fingerprinting started?
13. Biotechnology plays a huge role in our everyday lives from the
clothes we wear to how we wash them, the food we eat to how we
source them, the medicine we take to treat our bodies, and even the
fuel we use to move our vehicles.
Farmers Benefit from Agricultural Biotechnology Seeds.
Farmers choose biotech crops because they increase yield and lower
production costs.
