Overview of Shrimp Industry
• The economic recovery led to brisk shrimp trading in the 1H of 2010.
• Demand exceeded supply, and prices moved up sharply.
• All main markets reported increased imports in the first quarter of 2010.
• The weakening of the EU impacted the world shrimp market in the second
quarter, and more shrimp was aimed at the US and the Japanese market
instead.
• The Gulf of Mexico oil spill resulted in very low US shrimp production, leading to
more demand for imported shrimp.
• Prices are likely to increase and stabilize at a high level in late 2010.

Biosecurity in shrimp farm
Biosecurity can be defined as
The protection of plants, animals (including humans and associated
activities) and the wider environment from the unwanted impacts of
biological agents including diseases and pests.
• Biosecurity can be applied at various levels.
• In the context of aquatic animal disease, this can range from managing
the health of individual ponds, through whole commercial enterprise to
national or international biosecurity.

What “Biosecurity” Means to Customers?
Consumers
• Food safety cautious
• High quality shrimp meat
Shrimp Farmers
• No pathogen in shrimp farms
