This document provides an orientation to library resources for a Biomedical Informatics program. It introduces the library homepage and biomedical informatics library guide. It discusses how to find electronic and print textbooks, requesting chapters from print books through interlibrary loan, accessing electronic resources by authenticating through the library website, and free citation and software tools available to students like EndNote and Office 365. Contact information is provided for the HPD library liaison.

My contact information is also on
this page. The best way to reach
me is via email.
4. FAQ #1- Do you have my textbook
In the left column you will see the tab [Find
Books]if you hover on that tab, a drop-down
menu should appear and you should see a
listing for the [Summer Textbooks] which I
have annotated and hyperlinked
5. ◦ If the book is available from the Library electronically, I have hyperlinked the title of the book.
◦ ALSO the books may have a different number of simultaneous users. If there is a limit I
indicate that. That means that if you try the link and we only have 1 ‘copy’ of the book
available & someone else is using it, you may get a turn away notice.
6. When you try to access content that we license (and pay for) you will be
prompted to “authenticate” or log in to access any of the libraries’
electronic resources. You will use the 1st box.
7. If all of the copies of the ebook are in-use,
you will get a turnaway notice
8. As I indicated - we license
these books through different
eBook vendors and each title
may be on a different
‘platform’ or have a different
look & feel & capabilities
EX: We have unlimited users for this book
and the platform allows for a full 14 day
download.
9. Here is another required textbook but this time, the book
is not available electronically. It is in PRINT & on RESERVE which means
it can only be used in the Library.
For distance users….you can request a chapter via Interlibrary Loan
Reserve = Can’t Be Checked Out
You CAN Request a Chapter via ILL/Document Delivery

18. One of the tools to which NSU provides you access is
EndNote (citation management software) FREE download.
19. The most important
thing I want to
emphasize to you is

information.
I have included the
toll free number for

Editor's Notes
When the Library gets the textbook list, we try to get the book electronically to accommodate our distance users and allow greater accessibility of the book. However, please note that we license these books through different eBook vendors and each title may be on a different ‘platform’ or have a different look & feel & capabilities as well as be limited by the number of copied of the book available. I have provided the hyperlinks when available. However each title will probably have a different number of simultaneous users. If there is a limit I indicate that. That means that if you try the link and we only have 1 ‘copy’ of the book available & someone else is using it, you may get a turn away notice.
You will be prompted to “authenticate” or log in to access any of the libraries’ subscription electronic resources. You will use the 1st box for Current students, faculty & staff and you will log in using your Sharklink username and password. (It should be the same one you use to log into Blackboard and check your Sharkmail.
To request a scanned chapter of a Reserve book, from the item record, click on Interlibrary Loan- Health Professions Division
Choose Book Chapter from the New Request menu on the left.
The most important question you fill out will be your HPD Campus Affiliation. This is where you indicate that you are a distance student
When the item is available, they will not send the PDF to you. They will send you a link to log back into Interlibrary Loan and click on [Electronically Received Articles]
