 The sport long jump has been around since 1896 and was
formerly known as broad jump. Long jump is a track and
field event where an athlete accelerates down a track
and takes flight into the air, landing in the pit full of sand.
 1914, Dr Harry Eaton Stewart recommended “running
broad jump” as a standard track and field event for
Females. Though, female’s long jump was not introduced
into the Olympics programme until 1928
 There have been a lot of records broken since the sport
was introduced. The first long jump world record that was
set was held by an Ireland long jumper named Peter
O’Connor in 1901 jumped a distance of 7.61m. But the
world record that hasn’t been broken since 1991 in Tokyo
was set by an American named Mike Powell jumping an
astonishing distance of 8.95m
