How Does Bradbury Use Technology In Fahrenheit 451
We use technology everyday. Smartphones, tablets, TV and computers are devices that we use to
communicate with others and can be used for education. Technology has even saved lives, in
hospitals or tracking a dangerous person; but in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, technology was
made to look evil and what causes people to be unhappy, but Bradbury s actual warning was not to
abuse technology. The government in Bradbury s society had used technology as a way to control
the citizens. Isolation, and the lack of humanity is a result of the control of technology. Bradbury
had created the brainwashed society to show us, the reader, how important it is to not abuse
technology, because then we can be more human and be much more happier. Ray Bradburys
message in Fahrenheit 451 is a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After telling her to think, Mrs. Phelps just said she was going home to watch the parlor. Even
when someone is given the opportunity to think, they pass it up to watch TV, because of how
they were taught to only watch TV when they feel anything. The government has created this
control so that they can hold on to power without threats or questions from their citizens. Without
the threat of an uprising in their society, Fahrenheit 451 s government is able to hold on to their
power. The control is so great, that no one cares for their actual family. She [Mildred] shoved the
valise in the waiting beetle, climbed in, and sat mumbling, Poor family, poor family, oh
everything is gone... , (Bradbury 108). When Montag and Mildred were in danger, Mildred only
cared for her TV family. [Montag speaking to Beatty] Was it my wife turned in the alarm? Beatty
nodded. But her friends turned in an alarm earlier, that I let ride. One way or the other, you d have
got it, (Bradbury 111). In this society, the TV show family is more important than their own family,
and friends. When there is a threat of the uprising, Mildred was so brainwashed into believing she
had to turn in her

Point Of View In Lenny Abrahamson s Film Room
Some films make an impression on our lives that last forever, award winning film Room directed
by Lenny Abrahamson, is one of those films. In Room a young woman named Joy is locked and
hidden away in a shed with her five year old son Jack. Joy was locked in what her and her son
call room for seven years. Joy was seventeen when she tried helping a man with his injured dog,
but the man tricked her and kidnapped her. Room has a very well thought out plot, but an even
more well thought out composition. The use of point of view for Jack and the opening and closing
scenes of Room stand out the most. In the filma point of view shot is used quite a few times. A
point of view shot is very resounding and very remeable. A point of view shot can also... Show more

This creates a sense of anxiety and anticipation. One cannot quite make out what is really going
on yet. A longer shot is then added with Joy putting Jack back to sleep. This shot adds the
characters to briefly and one still has the sense of anticipation. There is then a rotating
establishing shot of the only natural light source in the room, a sky light. Jack then starts
narrating a story his mom Joy told him about when he was born. While this narration is going on
the film cuts to a shot of Joy and Jack in bed Jack is just waking up. This releases some of the
tension but there is still some residing anxiety and one really can t make out what is really
going on yet. Joy makes a plan to escape with most of the task on Jack. After Jack completes his
escape and leads the police back to his mom still locked in the room, they go live together with
Joys mom. Joy and Jack have a hard time adjusting to their new life. Joy gets very depressed and
has to seek treatment, while Jack stays with his grandma. When Joy and Jack are reunited Jack
wants to revisit the room that they were kept in. Joy agrees to go

The Third Stage By Wole Soyinka
In his essay, The Fourth Stage which helped to establish [his] reputation as a myth critic, a drama
theorist and a master of language , Soyinka attempts to investigate the origin of Yoruba tragedy (
Madaukor 8). He is of the view that in Yoruba world view, tragedy
originated from gods
consciousness of their incompleteness or what he terms the anguish of severance ; [t]he tragedy
in Yoruba traditional drama, is the anguish of this severance, the fragmentation of essence from
self (Myth 145). In other words, the gods who have become isolated from the world of men are
eager for complementary which was lost and balance was destroyed as a result of a curse (19). The

In this way, he created harmony in the Yoruba world of gods and humans.
In order to keep balance and harmony in Yoruba world, some pre eminent people, usually leaders
or rulers have to sacrifice themselves on behalf of the community. This notion is reflected in
Death and the King s Horseman; Elesin Oba, the King s Horseman, who has been extremely
honoured as a great chief as well as the King s close friend, has to join the dead king in his
journey to the world of the ancestors; by so doing, he brings the world of gods and ancestors
closer to that of the living. Consequently, he maintains balance and harmony in the Yoruba world
and thus makes for its well being. Elesin adopts all Yoruba beliefs and has faith in all its values
and duties. He is the embodiment of the culture of his people and as such he has an awful
responsibility. It is quite simply that on him depends the future, on him depends the existence
itself (Bowman 89). Elesin has to play the heroic role played by Ogun in order to bridge the gap
between man and the gods. He has to cross the dangerous abyss between the world of the living
and that of the ancestors but this demands a strong will as that of Ogun. Elesin has the desire to
make this journey but his attachment to worldly pleasures damages his will; his love of women
comes in the way of fulfilling his sacred duty.
The play opens with the significant Stage Directions:

The Themes In The Shawl By Cynthia Othick
The Short Story named The Shawl by Cynthia Othick narrates the survival of a mother, daughter
and a niece, during the Holocaust, them being in a concentration camp and participating in death
marches. It fits the theme of survival of the fittest as the daughter, named Magda, was forced to
adapt to her needs after the mother was not able to do it. Stella, the niece, is a third wheel in the
story, she is most of the time ignored by Rosa as she fully concentrates in taking care of Magda,
or at least attempting to, and Stella is just left their as somewhat of filling character. The obscurity
of Stella is also stated by the author when she says Stella, cold, cold, the coldness of hell (1980)

Marketing Principles Of A Successful Business
In a world where we re always wanting more, and what we have never seems to be enough. One
desires more, once basic needs are fulfilled. Human needs are basic requirements for maintaining
life, such as, air, food, water, shelter, and clothing. Wants are comforting and pleasurable. Wants
are the desires that are not essential to life, but makes life a little more enjoyable. Both are
unlimited and endless. The economy devotes business to satisfy one s wants, because ones basic
needs are fulfilled. Although, a person needs have been fulfilled one desires more. Needs, wants,
and demands are a part of marketingprinciples businesses use to obtain data. In order for businesses
to make a profit, consumers must spend. A successful business, pays attention to market research,
surveys, reviews, and feedback. In order to reinvent and improve the business to satisfy consumers
wants. From marketing strategies, racy advertising, colorful bright billboards, to repetitive
commercials. All intended to catch one s eye and desire it, desire the needto have it, and most
importantly buy it. US is the largest producer of goods and services in the world, leaving us
Americans as the leading consumer. Businesses thrive if we buy their products, and that is how the
economy flourishes. Consistently creating a demand through superficial items, that consumers
love. Why buy or drink plain filtered water when one can drink Evian water? Why buy regular,
plain toothpaste when one can have whitening

Emily Dicken And Existentialism Essay
I Would Create A Clever Title, But I Don t Want My Unladylike Existentialism To Intimidate The
Men
For a lady in the Victorian era, thinking independently and unreservedly often leads to trouble.
Dicken s character Gradgrind even instructs his daughter against such pastimes, saying Louisa,
never wonder! (Dickens 89). The Victorian view of womanhood in Hard Times presents the ideal
version of femininity as submissive, compassionate, and always content with her station,
particularly in regards to her status beneath her husband. Sissy, the poor but kind orphan in the
novel, acts with sensitivity and often naivety, which rewards her in the end. Louisa challenges this
role with her initial inability to sympathize. Intelligent but aloof, she is taught to abide strictly to
the rule of fact by her utilitarian father Gradgrind. This strict avidness to ignoring emotion and
curiosity lead Louisa to repress her identity so she can conform to her father s principles. Her
deficit of empathy, ample education, and abundance of detachment all lead to her failure to attain
the ideal of Victorian womanhood. A womanthat does not follow the rules society sets ... Show

She appears just as she is, a simple pretty woman who looks outwards rather than inwards. Her
unselfish dedication to her purpose reveals that she focuses on the tasks at hand rather than grander

femininity, taking note of her childlike ingenuousness . . . her modest fearlessness, her truthfulness
which put all artifice aside, her entire forgetfulness of herself in her earnest quiet holding to the
object with which she had come (253). Sissy conquers balance between the extremes of folly and
fact. Her perfection of the traits of a proper Victorian woman allows her to achieve the only happy
ending within the story. She exemplifies the traits of compassion, modesty, and

Discuss Strategies That Aid In Reading Comprehension
Chapters 6 through 9 discuss strategies that aid in comprehension. These chapters dive deeper into
strategies that will help a reader s comprehension while thoroughly explaining strategies that should
be implemented in a classroom. One main point is that readers should follow their thinking tracks
and explore their thinking and be able to notice when they are straying away from the meaning of
the reading. It s important that students are able to make connections while they re reading.
Another main point would be that questions help clarify and unlock a deeper meaning while
reading. Visualizing and inferring is an important aspect for reading because it helps aid in
understanding. Comprehension strategies allow readers to know a variety of tools that are
beneficial. An inner conversation develops when readers are aware of their own thoughts and are
able to connect their thoughts to the text. Reading comprehension is an ongoing process of
evolving thinking. This idea stood out to me because I think it s important to emphasis the aspect
of it being an ongoing process. Students should be taught... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Activating their background knowledge helps readers make connections to a text. Making
connections to personal experience facilitates understanding. This idea stood out to me because it s
important for readers to connect what they already know to what they are reading. Background
knowledge helps students connect with the text. It also helps them make comparisons and develop
a better understanding. When a reader already has the knowledge about a subject then they are able
to create a bridge to what they are reading. This connection will help them understand the text and
aid in their comprehension. I think background knowledge is beneficial for students because they
can create self to text, text to text, and text to world connections. These connections will help them
relate to the text and stay engaged while

The Human Race Capturing Marine Animals
The earliest records of the human race capturing marine animals, specifically fish, dates back over
40,000 years to the Upper Paleolithic time period (Endangered). Initially, fishing and harvesting
aquatic animals was for the sole purpose of survival and means of finding food. Fast forward
40,000 years and fishinghas shifted from a necessity to big business, wiping out the majority of
oceanic resources and setting the marine apocalypse for the year 2048, when ecologists predict all
species of fishwill have gone extinct. Oceanic resources are dwindling at a rapid rate. The pending
bioethical question is this: should further restrictions on fishing be implemented in the global
fishing industry, as well as sport fishing? The answer is still up for debate.
Because of overfishing, populations of saltwater fish have dwindled to surprisingly low
numbers. But what of the few populations of people that still depend on fishing for food? And
what of people who fish for sport, but only keep their legal limit? And how will placing
restrictions affect both regional and global seafood economies? In 2005, 24.1 million tons of
seafood were available for consumption in North America alone, with an astounding 107 million
tons worldwide (Overfishing). And how would restricting fisheries affect worldwide health?
Nearly 16% of the world s protein consumption is provided by fisheries. These questions have
driven bioethical debates since the early 1960s and remain to be dangerously unsolved and

Literary Analysis Of Peter Bosch s The Garden Of Earthly...
Finishing with the final right panel, the composition of the humans and otherworldly aspects in
this scene are scattered and messy, conveying a sense of chaos. Humans near the front of the
scene are crushed and impaled by giant musical instruments while others near the corners and
sides of the scene are crammed together, looking terrified and hollow, appearing as if they are
hiding from something. In the background, endless wars are being fought as buildings go up in
flames, the battlefields are piled with fallen corpses, and men are falling from the sky. The lack of
order in composition and variety of chaotic scenarios of man being destroyed by their own
creations, such as the arts and inequality, convey the sense that humanity s empire... Show more

Instead, in the middle panel, the focus is more towards gaining control over groups of humans
or nature itself rather than indulging in lust. Art historian, Ludwig von Baldass, provides
another interpretation of The Garden in which he suggests that women are the cause for
mankind s fall (Baldass). As The Garden heavily references the Bible, it seems plausible that
women would be agents of chaos as it is Eve, in the first biblical story, who first ate the fruit from
the Tree of Knowledge before giving some to the Adam. However, Bosch s work is not a perfect
rendition of the biblical story, but merely references it, as noted from the larger than real life
animals, oddly shaped structures, and the human s paper white skin tones (save for a very small
number of those with black skin tones). There is also no proof showing that it was a woman who
ate the red fruit first as it was a scene never painted. Lastly, all people, both man and woman, were
partaking in the fruit in the middle panel and all of them were being tortured equally in the final
panel. Overall, the interpretation of The Garden of Earthly Delights representing the rise and fall of
mankind through the indulging of their own vices offers the most evidence to back it up, which
can be found in all three panels. Humans desire to obtain various forms of abundance, control, and
power over their surroundings has, for centuries, been the foundation on which empires

Brake Process Speech
Knowing when you require a brake substitution is vital to your wellbeing as well as to the general
estimation of your auto. Rehearsing routine support on your auto or conveying it to experts who
can analyze and repair any car issue is critical throughout the entire year however especially in the
winter months when street conditions crumble. Your brakerotors and brake cushions give the
essential power to moderate and stop your vehicle, henceforth why brake substitution is critical.
How Do I Know whether my Brakes Need to be Replaced?
There are a few signs that your brakes rotors or brake cushions should be supplanted or need
administration. In the event that you feel a heartbeat on your brake pedal, vibration in the directing
wheel or hear a banging, pounding or granulating commotion when weight is connected to the
pedal, it might be a great opportunity to get your auto for administration. Another indication of
wear on brakes is whether they get somewhat which will bring about one of the wheels to hold

The Consequences And Extinction Of Animals By Climate...
The Consequences and the Extinction of Animals By Climate Change
The warnings about global warming have been extremely clear for a long time. We are facing a
global climate crisis. It is deepening. We are entering a period of consequences (Al Gore). Global
warming is a nationwide problem that is affecting people and the environment by the greenhouse
gases. Global warming increases the atmospheric temperature. For instance, the solar radiation is
reflected by the Earth s atmosphere. Earth s surface absorbs most of the radiation, and it warms it.
Part of the invisible light traverses the air. A few are immersed and transmitted in an outright
direction by pollutants molecules. The effect of global warming is an increased temperature of the
earth s surface and the lower atmosphere. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) which measures long lived greenhouse gases increased 37 percent from
1990 to 2015, and of that, carbon dioxide accounted for 80 percent of the increase (Keating 2). The
greenhouse gases are causing that the temperatures rise. Global warming is a huge problem that we
face today; it is caused by the greenhouse effect that leads to climate change and the extinction of
many animals.
Global warming is increasing the temperatures in our planet Earth leading to climate change. The
primary reason for global warming is the human development of the greenhouse effect causing
natural disasters. Shaftel declares that Global climate

Protecting Children from Television Violence Essays
Summary #1
Television violence, and media violence in general, has been a controversial topic for several
years. The argument is whether young children are brainwashed into committing violent real world
crimes because of violent and pugnacious behavior exposed in mass media. In his article No Real
Evidence for TV ViolenceCausing Real Violence , Jonathan Freedman, a professor of psychology
at the University of Toronto and author of Media Violence and Its Effect on Aggression: Assessing
the Scientific Evidence , discusses how television violence, claimed by the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC), does not cause real world aggression among adolescents. The FCC determined
to restrict violent television programming to late night hours ... Show more content on

Freedman argues that this concept, from the FCC, strictly bases their claim on intuition, not
scientific research. Freedman writes, Ultimately, it is the findings that matter not what people think
about them or tell you about them (Par. 8). There is not enough evidence to understand and know
the effects of media coverage of real violence, and how fictional violence affects real world
scenarios.
Evaluation #1
Television violence is not necessarily the problem with real world violence in today s society,
nor is violent video games, or explicit rap music. United States violence increased between the
1960 s to 1980 s, but has dropped dramatically, especially violent crimes committed by young
men, since 1992 (Freedman Par. 10 11). Although media violence is increasing, world violence is
decreasing; there has to be a reputable and scientific explanation on why these children are
committing violent real world crimes. There have been less than one hundred experiments
completed on this topic of choice, and possible evidence that observer bias may affect these
experiments. The FCC purposely schedule violent or provocative televisions shows during evening
hours of the night for a reason. Parents of young children, from ages seven through fourteen, should
not allow their children to watch these so called violent television shows or play these violent
video games. Certain television programs have warning labels clearly stating that, some material is
not suitable for

How Communication Changes Each On A Child s Age
1.Discuss how communication changes depending on a child s age.
According to Communication Skills (Skills You Need, 2015) Communication is simply the act of
transferring information from one place to another, whether this be vocally (using voice), written
(using printed or digital media such as books, magazines, websites or emails), visually (using logos,
maps, charts or graphs) or non verbally (using body language, gestures and the tone and pitch of
voice). Communication depends greatly on a child s level of development and the type of
communication they are able to participate in and children s delivery of it. From making babbling

They will understand basic instruction like Eat your food and will use mine to indicate

Children age 3 to 6 years old begin to talk in full sentences and begin to learn and use proper
grammar and expression. At this age range, children are still learning to tell stories and recall
information in correct order. Meaning they can narrate events, by using past and present tense
and plurals. They are able to follow series of about 2 to 4 direction and can learn and sing songs
and rhymes, enjoy listening to stories and remember with some accuracy. Children would start
asking questions about, how, when and why things happen and even talk about imaginary and
future things at this age range, (About Education, 2015). When children reach the age of 6 to 12
years old, communication becomes more efficient and some communicate like adult. They
becomes very inquisitive and many ask questions, remember and relate to experiences and stories.
They can also express their preferences, concern and needs to others. They start to be more
independent, but struggle to make good choices and exercising self discipline. At this age of 12 to
18 years old, children start to need more detailed and deeper communications. This is because, they

Drummer Boy Research Papers
As this semester is coming to an end in DAN 130, we were given our final assignment. For this
project we were asked to get in groups of 4 5 students and create a two minute dance incorporating
the movement styles we have been taught. Since we are approaching the Christmas holiday we
decided to incorporate that into our danceby choosing the song Drummer Boy, by Justin Bieber.
We applied ballet, jazz, hip hop, and a few moves we learned on studio days into our routine. We
also recorded ourselves for practice and spent time outside of class perfecting this performance.
If I were to categorize our dance into a genre I would label it as hip hop, jazz. Since Justin Bieber
is more of a pop artist, the beat is faster than a contemporary or ballet piece. The reason we chose
this song was because the tempo was both fast and slow allowing us to incorporate more
movements. The song begins with a slower beat and 50 seconds into the song speeds up
immensely. This is where we change our tempo and range of movements.... Show more content on

Winter Blast Short Story
You know that moment when you cross the finish line and the adrenaline and excitement rushes
over you? And in the moment you think to yourself, Because I persevered, I accomplished my
goals. That is exactly how I felt two years ago when I crossed my finish line... It started on a
chilly February morning at my church s Youth Camp Retreat, called Winter Blast . My friends had
tried to persuade me all morning to climb the two story ropes course, in the barn at the top of the
hill.
Come on Amanda, how do you know you won t like it unless you try it? Nora asked as she pulled
on her tennis shoes.
I just know, I m terrified of heights and I don t want to fall, I protested back as I crawled out of bed.
After more persuasion and pleading I eventually gave in, and we exited our cabin and headed
towards the hill. My nerves grew by the second as I neared the giant opening. We gazed upward as
we entered the barn. Climbers of all shapes and sizes were many stories up, climbing through the
obstacle courses.
The barn was cold and dim lighted. The musty smell of the barn filled my nostrils. It made me feel
as though I had entered a Haunted House. People screamed as the ropes above shook with the wind
being brought in through the holes in the wall.
New climbers head this way! Shouted a voice to the right. I turned and followed my group of
friends over to the man talking.
After all of the climbers were in a half circle around the man, he began speaking. My name is
Westley and I will be your harness instructor. Wesley spoke about all the safety rules you need to
know in order to climb; things like how to attach your harness to the overhead ropes and how to
climb up to the next story.
After all of the rules were shared and everyone got their harnesses on, we were released to go up to
the first story of obstacle courses. My heart pounded in my chest as I neared the rope ladder going
up to the first level. I took a deep breath.
Amanda you can do this, I mumbled to myself as I put my hand on the rope ladder. I slowly
climbed higher and higher until I reached the top rung. I took another deep breath and climbed onto
the platform. As I stood up, a climbing instructor attached my harness clamps to the overhead rope.

A Reflection On The Life Of Hereworth Church
It is something of a challenge to write a reflection on the life of the chapel through 2017 when I
have only been there for a small part of it. Suffice it to say that the past year has been one of
change and transition for the role of Chaplain at Hereworth School, and for the life of the chapel.
With Reverend Rosemary Carey s departure at the end of Term Two, the life of the chapel was
placed in the hands of the teaching staff for Term Three, with valiant efforts to continue the spiritual
dimensionof the school. While no doubt the experience was enjoyed by staff and students alike,
the words uttered to me by one staff member as I left my first chapel service, Thank God you re
here , suggest there is an appreciation for the unique challenges of the role.
These challenges are what I have been discovering as I have gone, very quickly, through our final
term of 2017. While there are definitely similarities to the parish ministry I was engaged in prior to
joining Hereworth, there are also distinct differences the demographic being a major part of that
difference. How do we translate the great power and truth of our Christian faith into language and
practices that are intelligible and formative for young boys? What are the tools and resources of our
faith that not only form our heritage but the character of those who come under their tutelage?
What is it that the spiritual life of Hereworth School can provide to our boys and our communities
that make it indispensable,

Art as a medium has had a cause and effect relationship with history, reflecting the era of which they
belonged to through its representation of society, moods, and anxieties. During the 19th century,
expressionism as an art movement was prevalent all across Europe, but was truly prominent in
Germany. This art movement was seen across all artistic mediums such as painting, theater, and
literature as a reaction to realism and impressionism. Towards the end of the arts movement,
expressionismmade its way into film, depicting the tormented psychological realities of post World

Astral Projection Research Paper
Astral Projection Research Paper
Throughout history, people have been experiencing astral projection. Commonly called out of
body experiences (OBEs), these are events in which one s consciousness actually seems to be
separate from the physical body. These are often described by people who have near death
experiences(NDEs). Until recently, they were kept secret by the people who experienced them
for fear of being deemed insane by society. However, there were those few who pursued this
experience with an open, yet sometimes fearful, mind. These people expanded their minds to
become more open and peaceful. More people than ever are engaging in astral projection, and
finding that it can change the overview of life and expand the mind. ... Show more content on

It is an escape from our bodies, it is adventurous, and it violates conventional standards of behavior
(Peterson).
Other identical OBEs occur during what are regarded as unconscious periods caused by accident
or injury. Mostly these are categorized as freak events and are tucked away in memory as
anomalies or something that didn t really happen. Human belief systems would not allow it to be
otherwise. Some of the most striking of the spontaneous OBEs are now often identified as near
death experiences(NDEs) (Monroe 8).
The typical NDE often begins as an out of body experience during which the NDEer observes
things that he or she could not possibly see from the location of the inert and unconscious body
(Duncan 45). At age eleven, a subject from a study in Seattle experienced cardiac arrest and was
without a heartbeat for twenty minutes.
I heard a whooshing sound in my ears, he told the doctor. I felt like you feel when you go over a

Thirty Meter Telescope Project
The Thirty Meter Telescope Project On Maunakea The Thirty Meter Telescope project TMT has
become a big controversy here in HawaiК»i. It is based upon a thirty meter astronomical
observatory that would be built on the south summit of Maunakea. The observatory will be 217
feet long and dome height of 180 feet, you could compare that to an eighteen story building. The
total area that will be used to build the observatory is an acre and a half from five acres total. In
the year 2010 there were three proposals for a new telescope to be developed on the summit, it
was stated that it will be sixty times greater and better than the already built and fully functional 13

Discipleship Of Mark And Gospel Of Matthew
While reading the bible or excerpts from it, you might be asking yourself many questions. In
many ways the Gospel of Mark and Gospel of Matthew , will leave you wondering? Three main
points at which will be explained in some verses. As they are; what are the roles of the people
involved, what can the events say about discipleship in Christianity, and what do these events say
about what it means to be human. We will see one event from Mark and two from Matthew that
will go more in depth with what was said before. All of these events will better explain many points
behind what many others wonder. In the GospelMark, we see a particular event in chapter four,

Major Advantages Of Functional Behavioral Assessment
According to Raymond (2012), FBA is the process of gathering information about a learner s
behaviors in order to determine the purpose of a problem behavior in addition to its antecedents
and consequences . This process is for all students regardless if they have a disability or not. Once
the target behaviorhas been implemented, a hypothesis can be developed and more effective
behavioral interventions can be designed and implemented, including PBIS. All data used to create
these implementations need to be recent...properly collected and interpreted . In addition to our
textbook s information, I also found this: Functional behavioral assessment is a test that is meant
for identifying the reason for behaviors displayed by individuals with severe cognitive and
communication problems. (...) The following are key benefits gained from a functional behavioral
assessment.
1.Offers a deeper insight
The major advantage of functional behavioral assessment is that it looks beyond all the unsuitable
behaviors themselves. In fact, the focus of this test is to classify the social and environmental
factors that are responsible for causing certain behaviors. This wide perspective offers a deeper
insight of the reason behind a person s behavior. Hence, a functional behavioral assessment helps in
explain the reasons why someone behaves badly, which is very helpful when dealing with various
problematic behaviors.
2.Enhances child development
Most children can only communicate well

The Monarchy in Canada Essay
A monarchy is a form of government in which a single individual holds all the power in
government. Since 1918 Britain has been governed in a Democratic system but held a lot of the
same customs that it had when it was a monarchy (like a royal family etc.). Canada was a part of
the British Monarchy when it was still around and unfortunately is still a part of the monarchy
system that remains in Britain today. In 1867 the British North America Act was established and

Examples Of Humanity s Sinful Nature And Edmund Pevensie
Humanity s Sinful Nature and Edmund Pevensie
Humanity is a beautiful force of nature, but just as an ocean in beautiful, it is also treacherous.
Human nature is sinful in nature, No one has to teach a child to lie or be selfish; rather, we go to
great lengths to teach children to tell the truth and put others first. Sinful behavior comes naturally.
( What is the sin nature? , 2017). C.S. Lewis wrote a series of books called The Chronicles of
Narnia and in one of these named The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. C.S. Lewis weaves a
wonderful tale about four children collectively called the Pevensie children who find a world
unlike any other inside of a wardrobe. They meet the all powerful Lion, Aslan, that brings awe to
their person. They hear about the White Witchwith all of her horrors, and Edmund (one of the
children) even experiences her himself. The children even fight a battle against the forces of evil
in their minds and physically on the battlefield leading to the thrones of Narnia. Through this grand
story, C.S. Lewis wrote in a character very important to the ideas of human nature. Edmund was
one of the Pevensie children and is used in C.S. Lewis s novel as a representation of humanity. C.S.
Lewis presents Edmund as humanity through his foolish blindness to that which is sin, his pride
and jealousy, and his fear of judgement.
Edmund is already a foolish boy by the result of his sinful nature. C.S. Lewis shows us this in the
book when he writes, He jumped in

The Causes Of The Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party had aroused fury in Britain. One British official said that the people of
Boston ought to be knocked about their ears. King
George III declared, We must master them or totally leave them to them selves and treat them as
aliens. Britain chose to master the colonies.
In 1774, Parliament passed a series of laws to punish the
Massachusetts colony and to serve as a warning to other colonies. The
British called these laws the Coercive Acts, but they were so harsh that the colonists called them the
Intolerable Acts.
One of the acts would close the port of Boston until colonists paid for the destroyed tea. Others
banned committees of correspondence, allowed
Britain to house troops wherever necessary, and let British officials accused of crimes in the
colonies stand trial in Britain. To enforce the acts,
Parliament appointed General Thomas Gage governor of Massachusetts.
In 1773, Sam Adams had written, I wish we could arouse the con tinent. The Intolerable Acts

The adulterous affair between King Arthur s most trusted knight Lancelot, and his wife, Guinevere,
is symbolic to the coming of the mischievous serpent in God s garden as a result to an end of a

Through various parts of literature, Lancelot s romantic character becomes known. In The

need to keep what I have done in the past in mind, learn from it, and do it differently the next

that can happen because I have already made the mistake once and I know not to do it again. The

The Effects Of War And Music Together Essay
The Effects of War and Music Together
How are music and war related? Music puts a voice in the people s ears, and tells them whether
or not we should be involved in that war. It helped out the troops when they were over seas to not
be so home sick. Also, every war preceding the Vietnam War had music to help or support the war,
but the Vietnam War is where music during wartime changed.
The Vietnam War has been called quot;America s first rock and roll war quot; because of rock
music that was played and listened to by all Americans. As the draft was raised and draft dodgers
were being cracked down on, an overwhelming number of military personnel belonged to one

Because Vietnam government banned a lot of songs from the airwaves soldiers preferred to listen
cassette tapes, either brought from home or purchased on leave. The tape players were small,
battery operated, highly portable, and therefore easily carried into the field.
Rock music during this time period reflected on the Vietnam War, and since music helps define a
situation,
music helped define the Vietnam War and how people despised the fact that we were involved.
Lyrics of popular songs were used in the context of the war. Rock and roll substituted for lock and
load, referring to the procedure for readying the M16 for firing or for switching the weapon from
semiautomatic to automatic fire. Songs were written in protest to Vietnam. One song that protested
the war was quot;Purple Haze, quot; by Jimi Hendrix. The song is about a paratrooper, landing in
the jungles to purple smoke (Hendrix).
During the Vietnam War there was a catch phrase, quot;sex, drugs, and rock and roll. quot;
Having sex with anyone and everyone was acceptable during this time period. It was called Free
Sex. The drugs were experimented with as well. Marijuana, LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide),
Cocaine, and many other drugs were tried. Many people believed that The Beatles quot;Lucy in

Hamlet as a Tragedy by William Shakespeare
1.1. Brief Introduction to Tragedy: Greek and English:
Elizabethan tragedy is traced back to Greek tragedy, since Greeks are said to have pioneered the
Western knowledge, be it Science, Arts, or Humanities not necessarily Technology. The rich
contribution of Greek dramatists like Sophocles, Euripides, Aeschylus and Aristophanes, is
noteworthy, towards the development of both Roman and English Drama. Though Roman Drama

Elizabethan Age (due to the royal patronage), with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Character is Destiny . Sixthly, Pity and Fear for Catharsis are perhaps common in both the tradition
of tragedies. And, lastly, the role of chorus (highlighting the past and intimating the future pivotal to
the plot), being common in Greek and English Tragedies, make them closer to each other. 1.2.
William Shakespeare s Hamlet:
Hamlet by William Shakespeare is believed to be the Crown of Tragedies because of its thematic
heterogeneity, stylistic features, rich characterization and appeal to Human Heart. A heart rending
tragedy that overwhelms with revenge, filial love and introspection explicitly exposed in four major
Soliloquies by Hamlet, the prince. The said drama is equally fascinating to the students of history,
philosophy, psychology, literature and perhaps many more. Though, it has flaws in its plot being
unsystematic and less causative for the fulfilment of Organic Whole, yet the overall/final effect is
quite impressive from artistic and literary viewpoints.
Speeches of Polonius, Ophelia, Horatio, Claudius, and particularly the Hamlet s glorify the drama;
better illustrates and beautifies the tragedy, fulfilling the fundamentals of tragedy. Every character
contributes, shares and cares, and above all, involved in the main action action being the soul of
drama! Internal and External Conflicts

Rape Culture
#RapeCultureIsWhen
These past two weeks, we have focused on the prevalent rape culture in the United States and how
that affects society. We found that sexual violence has become somewhat of a norm in the U.S.,
and that it is no longer broadcasted in the media like the atrocity it is. This, along with the inherent
gender stereotypes within society, contributes to rape culture, which is defined by the Oxford
Living Dictionary as a society or environment whose prevailing social attitudes have the effect of
normalizing or trivializing sexual assault and abuse. Our society bombards us with acts of sexual
violence, through music and visual media. It is treated like a despicable act that must not be
tolerated, one where the perpetrators must be held accountable. Yet, at the same time, it is tolerated,
and the perpetrators are often allowed to roam free without punishment, while their victims are
tortured with what happened to them for the rest of their lives. This is rape culture, and although
the term is circulating more and more, the populous does not regard it as a serious issue, but as a
problem made up hysterical feminists (Rape Culture is When, Maxwell).
One of the works that we analyzed in this unit was a 2013 article by Roxanne Gay, titled The
Careless Language of Sexual Violence. Gay discusses how the media is desensitizing us to the
rape and sexual violence that runs rampant. She tells us about an eleven year old girl who was

This machine also includes a stationary grid that is fixated to the wall and patient table as well as
a moveable grid that can b used on patients that are X Rayed directly.
Application Capabilities
This system may be used for examinations on both children and adults. The table can be used to
acquire images of the patient in a recumbent, sitting or prone position. The wall stand can be used
for patients that are standing or sitting. The digital images displayed on the system thereafter are of
excellent quality due to the proper understanding of the radiographer in terms of how to set
exposure factors needed to attain the level of contrast needed. (Siemens 2010; 39).
The Wall Stand
The wall stand contains the grid and has a holder for the detector. The detector unit can be
manipulated vertically or horizontally. The tube can be centred to the middle of the wall stand and
FFD adjusted to the required position depending on the type of examination being done at the time.
Examinations on the skull, spine, shoulder girdle, pelvis, abdomen, chest, as well as extremities
can be done on the stand provided that the patient is positioned accordingly and optimal exposure
is used. (Siemens 2010 page

The National Security Agency ( Nsa ) Is An Intelligence...
Security is key for the advancement and stability of the United States, and spying is nothing new to
the world. With the advancement of technology, we are now able to stay connected with each other,
while having a plethora of information at our fingertips. This is phenomenal, but dangerous. With
the increasing amount of stored data online and the speed at which said data can be transferred, one
can only worry that maybe were sharing a little TOO much information. The National Security
Agency (NSA) is an intelligence organization created by the United States government. The NSA is
responsible for global monitoring, collection, and processing of information and data for foreign
intelligence and counterintelligence. Today, the NSA states that... Show more content on

These countries were pretty successful at obtaining sensitive Intel. However, in the 21st century
surveillance is used in a different and more complicated way. Due to the drastic increase in crime
rates and recent terrorist attacks, governments around the world were forced to use electronic
surveillance to protect their own people. The electronic surveillance that each government
conducts is so complex and covert that you don t even know that you are the target. The US
government has become one of the biggest cases of this kind of surveillance. The US
government has been employing several forms of high level surveillance such as wiretapping,
CCTV cameras (Closed Circuit Televisions, aka street cameras) and now internet data by looking
at the information transferred between devices. The thought that the government was secretly
watching their citizens every move has been talked about for some time now. Although this talk
was widespread and sort of heard of, there was no definitive proof. However, suspicions were
confirmed in 2013 due to a man by the name of Edward Snowden leaking classified information
from the NSA s archives. Amongst the leaked information, evidence showed that the NSA had been
spying on millions of innocent people, and said monitoring is still being conducted. This shocking
level of spying was without warrant, making it illegal. Now, the US government has taken its bad

How Does Anderson Use Auteur Theory In The Movie Magnolia
After viewing and an examination of one of Paul Thomas Anderson success film Magnolia , I have
analysed that Anderson uses multiple themes involving regret and loneliness in the film which is
connected to auteur theory. What I am going to examine is: How were the themes and the
characters are related? How did Anderson s filmtechniques effect in the film? And why did
Anderson use his similar style within the film? These questions are to give an understanding that
focuses mainly on auteur theory in the film.
The film takes place in San Fernando Valley where it revolves around eleven characters about their
stories in one particular day. These stories have a little connection with each other as it involves
dealing with their past and having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Sarris, The second premise of the auteur theory is the distinguishable personality
of the director as a criterion of value. Over a group of films, a director must exhibit certain
recurrent characteristics of style, which serves as his signature. The way a film looks and
moves should have some relationship to the way a director thinks and feels. (Sarris, 1962).
Anderson uses his similar style in other films, including Magnolia because as an auteur director
creates films with their unique signature, it makes the audiences to naturally recognize their
work. His unique signature acts as his personality to focus on recurring themes within his work.
The theme he usually used in most of his films deals with regret and loneliness, this includes
Magnolia as well as his other films like Hard Eight , Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood .
Another style in his films is his film techniques such as the symmetry shot, Steadicam, the whip
pan and the use of music. For example, the whip pan was used in Magnolia , Boogie Nights and
Hard Eight . Therefore, Anderson s style used in his films to show his unique signature for the
audience to recognize his

Dystopian Film, Divergent, And Children Of Men
Children of Men tells the story of illegal immigrants trying to find a place of refuge or safety within
the United Kingdom. In another dystopian film, Divergent, the characters live in a world that is
divided into five factions which is supposed to prevent future war. In both films, the government
has an impact on the characters. In Children of men it has the characteristics of contemporary
society while in Divergent it has both characteristics of a communist and capitalist societies. But
what they both have in common is that in each filmit shows images of war weather it would be
mental or physical. Survival and revolution are shown to have a role in each film differently. Both
films relay the idea of redemption and hope for the futurewhile having a dystopiasetting.
Alfonso Cuaron, the director of the film Children of Men, relays a contemporary society by having
the movie based in the future, and he shows changes of the world and international political
institutions. How the future is not all the fancy technology and the society is broken because
everything revolves around the elimination of immigrants. With that it is causing the government to
turn into a police state by trying to get rid of all the immigrants. He adds some paints in the movie
that are represented as famous artwork in the later days. Giving the viewers that because of the
world changing some people are still stuck on the past instead of the future. Also, Alfonso Cuaron

Educating Students For A Global Society
The twenty first century seemed light years away when I was in high school. It feels like we
blinked and suddenly we have arrived. With the dawn of this new century, the face of education is
changing. We have to prepare students for a global society. Our test scores show that American
education reform is not just a want but also a necessity. The diverse communities within our
classrooms have forced us to reevaluate best practices to meet the needs of our students.
Collaborative teaching is one way to meet the needs of students of all skill levels. Co teaching
allows for differentiated instruction that will meet the needs of ELL students, students of low
income families, students with identified learning disabilities, etc. The... Show more content on

Instructional collaborative activities allow teachers to align teaching objectives, materials, learning
strategies, and assessment so that students can be supported academically in a cohesive manner.
Team teaching provides all students access to the general education curriculum and general
education. All students need to have access to the mainstream curriculum and assistance through
teaching and learning strategies that make concepts understandable. When teachers plan together,
they can ensure that the needs of all lessons are presented in a way that will reach students.
Today s classrooms have many different challenges, and working with a colleague to meet those
challenges is far superior to working in isolation, as teachers frequently do (Dove). Planning
together is key to ensuring that all students will have access to the curriculum. That old saying,
two heads are better than one rings true in collaborative teaching. Teachers will learn from each
other s expertise and expand the scope of their teaching capacity (Ferry, 2013). When teachers
come together to provide instruction, they have the opportunity to observe good teaching
practices. Teachers are often very isolated. They don t get the opportunity to see other good
teachers in action. It is difficult to learn new teaching practices when you are never allowed to
observe other classrooms. Team teaching allows us to be able to learn from each other as we

Tables 4 and 5 give values for unequal investment splits between TECO and Gold Hill. If we look at
incremental investments in TECO by 10%, Table 6 shows that the higher the investment in TECO,
the higher the standard deviation, and thus, the higher the risk. This is because as the economy
grows, Gold Hill s expected returns decrease. So since Gold Hill has more risk than TECO, the
investment has a reverse effect on the portfolio. Notice that correlation is negative because of
this inverse relationship. Now suppose a portfolio B consists of $10,000 (50%) in TECO and
$10,000 (50%) in the S amp;P 500 Fund. Table 7 shows us a much higher return rp of 14.25%

and that CVBond lt;CVp lt;CVTECO lt;CVGold Hill lt;CVFund. Again, the portfolio is between
that of the bond risk and that of the fund risk. If we look at incremental investments in TECO by
10%, Table 9 shows that the higher the investment in TECO, the lower the standard deviation, and
thus, the lower the risk. This is because investments lower in the fund, which is the riskier option.
The absolute value of correlation is higher than in portfolio A because the risk reducing effect is
lower in portfolio B. Now let us suppose an investor

Year-Round Schooling Argumentative Analysis
As of 2014, over 3000 schools in the United States are year round. Instead of having one longer
summer break, these schools take several shorter breaks throughout the year (Scholastic 15). With
so many advantages and very few disadvantages of year round schooling, it is not surprising that
these schools chose to exchange their excessively long summerbreaks for shorter, more frequent
breaks. Not only can year round schooling improve the academic performance of students, but it
can also economically benefit all aspects of society. Schools should adopt a year round calendar,
causing one to question the perils of year round schooling. Year round schooling promotes the
academic achievement of students. Synonymous to popular belief, year round... Show more content

The And Implementation Of Web
With traditional media outlets dealing with the incoherent nature of audiences and the defiant threat
of revenue decline, new organisations have stepped up taking advantage of this shifting media
landscape (Ellingsen 2014 pp.106). As companies such as Netflix, YouTube and other online
broadcasters instigate adamant change in the way programming is created, consumed and
distributed. This process, as stated by Media professor Chuck Byron, is Broadly discussed as the
on demand culture (Ellingsen 2014 pp.106). Hence with these digital platforms taking the role of a
televisionstudio, independent creators see this online focus as flexible and filled with endless
possibilities for the release and funding of their works.

At the peak of 2007 American television was faced with the strike of the American writer s
guild, resulting in an uncertain future for prime time television with production budgets and
programming styles facing restructure (Peirce 2011 pp. 315). Taking advantage of a new
format and the current situation of the television industry producers Marshall Herskovitz and
Edward Zwick initiated and 8 episode web series made available through the social media site

pursue their dreams and experience the bitter and the sweet of life (Peirce 2011 pp. 315).
Throughout it s thirty six episode, two live per week structure the show amassed 10 million
views. Seeing its instant popularity the rights to the program was purchased and its format
converted into a 1 hour television special by NBC, who saw this as an incredible opportunity to
cash in on a show with an already established online following (Peirce 2011 pp. 3.16). However,
as it debuted Quarter life saw a depletions in viewers at a total of 3.1 million as well as a low
adult demographic rating of 1.3. Further emphasising the significance of the question regarding,
what structural elements allowed for its online success and television failure (Peirce 2011 pp.

Kony 2012 Thesis
In March 2012, Kony 2012, a social media campaign about Joseph Kony and the Lord s

part of the Invisible Children campaign to bring Joseph Kony to justice. Invisible Children was
founded by Jason Russell the narrator of Kony 2012. The Invisible Children used Kony 2012 to

In fact Kony 2012 targets a very specific group of people that group is the youth and I would have
to say Western youth. Many critics denounced Kony 2012 because it s recurrence of familiar
narrative, that of middle class and predominately white, young American saving Africans from their
own self imposed miseries (Fisher, 202). Kony 2012 set out to empower young people to do more
than just watch, it empowered them to take action. You can see this in the video as they interview
young adults they make them relatable. Although supporters where from all ages and walks of life,
surveys showed that over eighty eight percent of supports were under the age of twenty six (Karlin
Matthew, 2012). Invisible children targeted the youth by touring to schools (middle school, high
school, and colleges), using popular musicians, and of course social media. Invisible children also
intentionally targeted and worked with celebrities who were appealing to the youth. Another
appealing draw to youth was the products that they used to promote Invisible Children like apparel,
bags, bracelets, stickers and actions kits . These products enabled participants in the movement to
wear their involvement, which in turn strengthens their involvement (Karlin Matthew,

Descriptive Essay About Metropolitan Museum
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the largest and finest art museums in the world. The
museum s collection consists of prehistory and present artifacts from every part of the globe.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is located at 5th avenue and 82nd street in New York City. On
Monday, November 5th, my brother and I took a trip to the Metropolitan Museum. It was a very
long journey to get there. When we arrived at 34th street, we took the E train and transferred to
Lexington Avenue to get to 86th street. From there we walked a couple blocks to get to the
Metropolitan Museum. The reason why I took my brother is because he loves museums, so
wanted someone who would not want to leave the museum after a short period of time due to
lack of interest. Not only I enjoyed this trip, but also my brother enjoyed it maybe even more.
Although this isn t the first time that I visit the Metropolitan museum, every visit never fails to
amaze me by how massive it is. Not only the Metropolitan Museum is imposing from how it s
beautifully designed from the outside, but also the inside of the building is mind boggling from
the great amount of priceless of artwork it contains. When my brother and I first entered the doors
of the museum, he was blown away. He couldn t believe how enormous the museum actually is.
Not only local New Yorkers took a visit that day, but also Tourists from around the world. Our trip
mostly focused upon Islamic and Ancient Egyptian art and we found it to be

Indigenous Peoples Of Native Americans
There does not seem to be one definitive definition of indigenous people, but generally indigenous
people are those that have historically belonged to a particular region or country, before its
colonization or transformation into a nation state, and may have different often unique cultural,
linguistic, traditional, and other characteristics to those of the dominant culture of that region or
state (Rights) The land to Native Americans is a very sacred object. To us, as nonnative
individuals, we don t look at the land the same. As agriculturists we have a respect for the land
and want to maintain its fertility so it can continue to bless us with crops. While a ski bum may
have respect for the mountains and terrain that was given to them to be able to ski and enjoy.
Native Americans see the land as a whole. They as people don t just respect it for certain entities
they respect it for everything it has given to them. Their ancestral land has a fundamental
importance for their collective physical and cultural survival as peoples. Indigenous peopleshold
their own diverse concepts of development, based on their traditional values, visions, needs and
priorities. As nonnative individuals it should be our job to help protect these sacred lands, and
restore what damage that has been done to them. But instead, big companies are destroying sacred
land all over the United Statesby mining, drilling for oil, or even building for scientific research.

The Battle Between God And Science

Psychoanalysis And Oedipus The King
Ever since Sigmund Freud developed psychoanalysis theory, its applicability has been extended
beyond therapy to literature. In the interpretation of dreams, Sigmund Freud coins the term the
oedipus complex in reference to the greek mythology of Oedipus the king. The application of
psychoanalysis to myth is treated by Dowden with scepticism and he states that the only
significance of the psychoanalytic approach is in its recognition of how fundamental the images
that recur in the myth are (Dowden, 1992, p.23). This essay will argue that Dowden s treatment of
the theory of psychoanalysisis valid but needs to be supplemented with a more comprehensive view
of psychoanalysis and the various arguments for scepticism towards psychoanalysis. Dowden s
treatment of the theory of psychoanalysis focuses on the application of dream interpretation to
myth and it s related flaws. He refers to the freudian method of dream analysis as using dreams to
disclose the hidden operations of the unconscious mind... [through] symbolism, disposition, or
projection (Dowden, 1992, p.23). In this sense, it is reasonable to extend psychoanalysis to other
products of human imagination such as myth. Dowden criticizes this approach to interpreting myth
by raising several major problems. Firstly, he speculates that both psychoanalyst and classist tend to
be inapt at psychoanalyzing myths. Secondly, he warns against analyzing the characters in the myth
as though they are real in flesh. Thirdly, he dismisses

Elements of Communication
The Elements of Communication Communication begins with a message, or information, that must
be sent from one individual or device to another. People exchange ideas using many different
communication methods. All of these methods have three elements in common. The first of these
elements is the message source, or sender. Message sources are people, or electronic devices, that
need to send a message to other individuals or devices. The second element of communication is the
destination, or receiver, of the message. The destination receives the message and interprets it. A
third element, called a channel, consists of the media that provides the pathway over which the
message can travel from source to destination. Consider, for example,... Show more content on

Hardware is often the visible components of the network platform such as a laptop, a PC, a
switch, or the cabling used to connect the devices. Occasionally, some components may not be
so visible. In the case of wireless media, messages are transmitted through the air using invisible
radio frequency or infrared waves. Services and processes are the communication programs,
called software, that run on the networked devices. A network service provides information in
response to a request. Services include many of the common network applications people use
every day, like e mail hosting services and web hosting services. Processes provide the
functionality that directs and moves the messages through the network. Processes are less
obvious to us but are critical to the operation of networks. End Devices and Their Role on the
Network The network devices that people are most familiar with are called end devices. These
devices form the interface between the human network and the underlying communication
network. Some examples of end devices are: * Computers (work stations, laptops, file servers,
web servers) * Network printers * VoIP phones * Security cameras * Mobile handheld devices
(such as wireless barcode scanners, PDAs) In the context of a network, end devices are referred to
as hosts. A host device is either the source or destination of a message transmitted over the network.

  • 2. How Does Bradbury Use Technology In Fahrenheit 451 We use technology everyday. Smartphones, tablets, TV and computers are devices that we use to communicate with others and can be used for education. Technology has even saved lives, in hospitals or tracking a dangerous person; but in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, technology was made to look evil and what causes people to be unhappy, but Bradbury s actual warning was not to abuse technology. The government in Bradbury s society had used technology as a way to control the citizens. Isolation, and the lack of humanity is a result of the control of technology. Bradbury had created the brainwashed society to show us, the reader, how important it is to not abuse technology, because then we can be more human and be much more happier. Ray Bradburys message in Fahrenheit 451 is a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After telling her to think, Mrs. Phelps just said she was going home to watch the parlor. Even when someone is given the opportunity to think, they pass it up to watch TV, because of how they were taught to only watch TV when they feel anything. The government has created this control so that they can hold on to power without threats or questions from their citizens. Without the threat of an uprising in their society, Fahrenheit 451 s government is able to hold on to their power. The control is so great, that no one cares for their actual family. She [Mildred] shoved the valise in the waiting beetle, climbed in, and sat mumbling, Poor family, poor family, oh everything is gone... , (Bradbury 108). When Montag and Mildred were in danger, Mildred only cared for her TV family. [Montag speaking to Beatty] Was it my wife turned in the alarm? Beatty nodded. But her friends turned in an alarm earlier, that I let ride. One way or the other, you d have got it, (Bradbury 111). In this society, the TV show family is more important than their own family, and friends. When there is a threat of the uprising, Mildred was so brainwashed into believing she had to turn in her ... • 3. Point Of View In Lenny Abrahamson s Film Room Some films make an impression on our lives that last forever, award winning film Room directed by Lenny Abrahamson, is one of those films. In Room a young woman named Joy is locked and hidden away in a shed with her five year old son Jack. Joy was locked in what her and her son call room for seven years. Joy was seventeen when she tried helping a man with his injured dog, but the man tricked her and kidnapped her. Room has a very well thought out plot, but an even more well thought out composition. The use of point of view for Jack and the opening and closing scenes of Room stand out the most. In the filma point of view shot is used quite a few times. Jack then starts narrating a story his mom Joy told him about when he was born. While this narration is going on the film cuts to a shot of Joy and Jack in bed Jack is just waking up. This releases some of the tension but there is still some residing anxiety and one really can t make out what is really going on yet. Joy makes a plan to escape with most of the task on Jack. After Jack completes his escape and leads the police back to his mom still locked in the room, they go live together with Joys mom. Joy and Jack have a hard time adjusting to their new life. • 4. The Third Stage By Wole Soyinka In his essay, The Fourth Stage which helped to establish [his] reputation as a myth critic, a drama theorist and a master of language , Soyinka attempts to investigate the origin of Yoruba tragedy ( Madaukor 8). He is of the view that in Yoruba world view, tragedy originated from gods consciousness of their incompleteness or what he terms the anguish of severance ; [t]he tragedy in Yoruba traditional drama, is the anguish of this severance, the fragmentation of essence from self (Myth 145). In other words, the gods who have become isolated from the world of men are eager for complementary which was lost and balance was destroyed as a result of a curse (19). In order to keep balance and harmony in Yoruba world, some pre eminent people, usually leaders or rulers have to sacrifice themselves on behalf of the community. This notion is reflected in Death and the King s Horseman; Elesin Oba, the King s Horseman, who has been extremely honoured as a great chief as well as the King s close friend, has to join the dead king in his journey to the world of the ancestors; by so doing, he brings the world of gods and ancestors closer to that of the living. Consequently, he maintains balance and harmony in the Yoruba world and thus makes for its well being. Elesin adopts all Yoruba beliefs and has faith in all its values and duties. He is the embodiment of the culture of his people and as such he has an awful responsibility. It is quite simply that on him depends the future, on him depends the existence itself (Bowman 89). Elesin has to play the heroic role played by Ogun in order to bridge the gap between man and the gods. He has to cross the dangerous abyss between the world of the living and that of the ancestors but this demands a strong will as that of Ogun. Elesin has the desire to make this journey but his attachment to worldly pleasures damages his will; his love of women comes in the way of fulfilling his sacred duty. The Themes In The Shawl By Cynthia Othick The Short Story named The Shawl by Cynthia Othick narrates the survival of a mother, daughter and a niece, during the Holocaust, them being in a concentration camp and participating in death marches. It fits the theme of survival of the fittest as the daughter, named Magda, was forced to adapt to her needs after the mother was not able to do it. Stella, the niece, is a third wheel in the story, she is most of the time ignored by Rosa as she fully concentrates in taking care of Magda, or at least attempting to, and Stella is just left their as somewhat of filling character. • 7. Emily Dicken And Existentialism Essay I Would Create A Clever Title, But I Don t Want My Unladylike Existentialism To Intimidate The Men For a lady in the Victorian era, thinking independently and unreservedly often leads to trouble. Dicken s character Gradgrind even instructs his daughter against such pastimes, saying Louisa, never wonder! (Dickens 89). The Victorian view of womanhood in Hard Times presents the ideal version of femininity as submissive, compassionate, and always content with her station, particularly in regards to her status beneath her husband. Sissy, the poor but kind orphan in the novel, acts with sensitivity and often naivety, which rewards her in the end. Louisa challenges this role with her initial inability to sympathize. Intelligent but aloof, she is taught to abide strictly to the rule of fact by her utilitarian father Gradgrind. This strict avidness to ignoring emotion and curiosity lead Louisa to repress her identity so she can conform to her father s principles. Her deficit of empathy, ample education, and abundance of detachment all lead to her failure to attain the ideal of Victorian womanhood. A womanthat does not follow the rules society sets ... • 9. The Human Race Capturing Marine Animals The earliest records of the human race capturing marine animals, specifically fish, dates back over 40,000 years to the Upper Paleolithic time period (Endangered). Initially, fishing and harvesting aquatic animals was for the sole purpose of survival and means of finding food. Fast forward 40,000 years and fishinghas shifted from a necessity to big business, wiping out the majority of oceanic resources and setting the marine apocalypse for the year 2048, when ecologists predict all species of fishwill have gone extinct. Oceanic resources are dwindling at a rapid rate. The pending bioethical question is this: should further restrictions on fishing be implemented in the global fishing industry, as well as sport fishing? The answer is still up for debate. Because of overfishing, populations of saltwater fish have dwindled to surprisingly low numbers. But what of the few populations of people that still depend on fishing for food? And what of people who fish for sport, but only keep their legal limit? And how will placing restrictions affect both regional and global seafood economies? In 2005, 24.1 million tons of seafood were available for consumption in North America alone, with an astounding 107 million tons worldwide (Overfishing). And how would restricting fisheries affect worldwide health? Nearly 16% of the world s protein consumption is provided by fisheries. These questions have driven bioethical debates since the early 1960s and remain to be dangerously unsolved and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Literary Analysis Of Peter Bosch s The Garden Of Earthly... Finishing with the final right panel, the composition of the humans and otherworldly aspects in this scene are scattered and messy, conveying a sense of chaos. Humans near the front of the scene are crushed and impaled by giant musical instruments while others near the corners and sides of the scene are crammed together, looking terrified and hollow, appearing as if they are hiding from something. In the background, endless wars are being fought as buildings go up in flames, the battlefields are piled with fallen corpses, and men are falling from the sky. The lack of order in composition and variety of chaotic scenarios of man being destroyed by their own creations, such as the arts and inequality, convey the sense that humanity s empire... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, in the middle panel, the focus is more towards gaining control over groups of humans or nature itself rather than indulging in lust. Art historian, Ludwig von Baldass, provides another interpretation of The Garden in which he suggests that women are the cause for mankind s fall (Baldass). As The Garden heavily references the Bible, it seems plausible that women would be agents of chaos as it is Eve, in the first biblical story, who first ate the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge before giving some to the Adam. However, Bosch s work is not a perfect rendition of the biblical story, but merely references it, as noted from the larger than real life animals, oddly shaped structures, and the human s paper white skin tones (save for a very small number of those with black skin tones). There is also no proof showing that it was a woman who ate the red fruit first as it was a scene never painted. Lastly, all people, both man and woman, were partaking in the fruit in the middle panel and all of them were being tortured equally in the final panel. Overall, the interpretation of The Garden of Earthly Delights representing the rise and fall of mankind through the indulging of their own vices offers the most evidence to back it up, which can be found in all three panels. Humans desire to obtain various forms of abundance, control, and power over their surroundings has, for centuries, been the foundation on which empires ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Consequences and the Extinction of Animals By Climate Change The warnings about global warming have been extremely clear for a long time. We are facing a global climate crisis. It is deepening. We are entering a period of consequences (Al Gore). Global warming is a nationwide problem that is affecting people and the environment by the greenhouse gases. Global warming increases the atmospheric temperature. For instance, the solar radiation is reflected by the Earth s atmosphere. Earth s surface absorbs most of the radiation, and it warms it. Part of the invisible light traverses the air. A few are immersed and transmitted in an outright direction by pollutants molecules. The effect of global warming is an increased temperature of the earth s surface and the lower atmosphere. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) which measures long lived greenhouse gases increased 37 percent from 1990 to 2015, and of that, carbon dioxide accounted for 80 percent of the increase (Keating 2). The greenhouse gases are causing that the temperatures rise. The argument is whether young children are brainwashed into committing violent real world crimes because of violent and pugnacious behavior exposed in mass media. In his article No Real Evidence for TV ViolenceCausing Real Violence , Jonathan Freedman, a professor of psychology at the University of Toronto and author of Media Violence and Its Effect on Aggression: Assessing the Scientific Evidence , discusses how television violence, claimed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), does not cause real world aggression among adolescents. The FCC determined to restrict violent television programming to late night hours ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Freedman argues that this concept, from the FCC, strictly bases their claim on intuition, not scientific research. Freedman writes, Ultimately, it is the findings that matter not what people think about them or tell you about them (Par. 8). There is not enough evidence to understand and know the effects of media coverage of real violence, and how fictional violence affects real world scenarios. Evaluation #1 Television violence is not necessarily the problem with real world violence in today s society, nor is violent video games, or explicit rap music. United States violence increased between the 1960 s to 1980 s, but has dropped dramatically, especially violent crimes committed by young men, since 1992 (Freedman Par. 10 11). Although media violence is increasing, world violence is decreasing; there has to be a reputable and scientific explanation on why these children are committing violent real world crimes. There have been less than one hundred experiments completed on this topic of choice, and possible evidence that observer bias may affect these experiments. The FCC purposely schedule violent or provocative televisions shows during evening hours of the night for a reason. Parents of young children, from ages seven through fourteen, should not allow their children to watch these so called violent television shows or play these violent video games. Certain television programs have warning labels clearly stating that, some material is not suitable for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For this project we were asked to get in groups of 4 5 students and create a two minute dance incorporating the movement styles we have been taught. Since we are approaching the Christmas holiday we decided to incorporate that into our danceby choosing the song Drummer Boy, by Justin Bieber. We applied ballet, jazz, hip hop, and a few moves we learned on studio days into our routine. We also recorded ourselves for practice and spent time outside of class perfecting this performance. If I were to categorize our dance into a genre I would label it as hip hop, jazz. Since Justin Bieber is more of a pop artist, the beat is faster than a contemporary or ballet piece. The reason we chose this song was because the tempo was both fast and slow allowing us to incorporate more movements. The song begins with a slower beat and 50 seconds into the song speeds up immensely. This is where we change our tempo and range of movements.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 16. Winter Blast Short Story You know that moment when you cross the finish line and the adrenaline and excitement rushes over you? And in the moment you think to yourself, Because I persevered, I accomplished my goals. That is exactly how I felt two years ago when I crossed my finish line... It started on a chilly February morning at my church s Youth Camp Retreat, called Winter Blast . My friends had tried to persuade me all morning to climb the two story ropes course, in the barn at the top of the hill. Come on Amanda, how do you know you won t like it unless you try it? Nora asked as she pulled on her tennis shoes. I just know, I m terrified of heights and I don t want to fall, I protested back as I crawled out of bed. After more persuasion and pleading I eventually gave in, and we exited our cabin and headed towards the hill. My nerves grew by the second as I neared the giant opening. We gazed upward as we entered the barn. Climbers of all shapes and sizes were many stories up, climbing through the obstacle courses. The barn was cold and dim lighted. The musty smell of the barn filled my nostrils. It made me feel as though I had entered a Haunted House. People screamed as the ropes above shook with the wind being brought in through the holes in the wall. New climbers head this way! Shouted a voice to the right. I turned and followed my group of friends over to the man talking. After all of the climbers were in a half circle around the man, he began speaking. My name is Westley and I will be your harness instructor. Wesley spoke about all the safety rules you need to know in order to climb; things like how to attach your harness to the overhead ropes and how to climb up to the next story. After all of the rules were shared and everyone got their harnesses on, we were released to go up to the first story of obstacle courses. My heart pounded in my chest as I neared the rope ladder going up to the first level. I took a deep breath. Amanda you can do this, I mumbled to myself as I put my hand on the rope ladder. I slowly climbed higher and higher until I reached the top rung. I took another deep breath and climbed onto the platform. As I stood up, a climbing instructor attached my harness clamps to the overhead rope. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Suffice it to say that the past year has been one of change and transition for the role of Chaplain at Hereworth School, and for the life of the chapel. With Reverend Rosemary Carey s departure at the end of Term Two, the life of the chapel was placed in the hands of the teaching staff for Term Three, with valiant efforts to continue the spiritual dimensionof the school. While no doubt the experience was enjoyed by staff and students alike, the words uttered to me by one staff member as I left my first chapel service, Thank God you re here , suggest there is an appreciation for the unique challenges of the role. These challenges are what I have been discovering as I have gone, very quickly, through our final term of 2017. While there are definitely similarities to the parish ministry I was engaged in prior to joining Hereworth, there are also distinct differences the demographic being a major part of that difference. • 35. Rape Culture #RapeCultureIsWhen These past two weeks, we have focused on the prevalent rape culture in the United States and how that affects society. We found that sexual violence has become somewhat of a norm in the U.S., and that it is no longer broadcasted in the media like the atrocity it is. This, along with the inherent gender stereotypes within society, contributes to rape culture, which is defined by the Oxford Living Dictionary as a society or environment whose prevailing social attitudes have the effect of normalizing or trivializing sexual assault and abuse. Our society bombards us with acts of sexual violence, through music and visual media. It is treated like a despicable act that must not be tolerated, one where the perpetrators must be held accountable. Yet, at the same time, it is tolerated, and the perpetrators are often allowed to roam free without punishment, while their victims are tortured with what happened to them for the rest of their lives. This is rape culture, and although the term is circulating more and more, the populous does not regard it as a serious issue, but as a problem made up hysterical feminists (Rape Culture is When, Maxwell). One of the works that we analyzed in this unit was a 2013 article by Roxanne Gay, titled The Careless Language of Sexual Violence. Gay discusses how the media is desensitizing us to the rape and sexual violence that runs rampant. She tells us about an eleven year old girl who was gang raped by eighteen men in ... Over a group of films, a director must exhibit certain recurrent characteristics of style, which serves as his signature.
