female who presents to her primary care provider, complaining of severe lower abdominal pain
(scale of 8 out of 10) for the past 72 hours. She has been relatively healthy lately, but this pain
began about a day before her latest menses. She is married with two children, and they are trying
for a third child. She is physically active, eats a healthy diet, and abstains from alcohol and
tobacco. Personal History She played basketball in high school until she broke her leg (it healed
with no problems). She hikes and kayaks, developing routine bruises and scrapes that heal
normally. Her mother has a history of hypertension and cancer. Her father has a history of
hypertension, kidney stones, and genital herpes. Medical Update Auscultation show normal heart
and lung sounds. KUB is negative for masses in the urinary or reproductive systems. Blood
pressure is a little higher than usual, but still within normal limits. Patient denies seeing blood in
