2. Congress can't make a law about religion, keep you from saying what you want, or stop you from asking the government to change something. In our words –Congress can’t stop your religion. 5. Nobody can search your body, or your house, or your papers and things, unless they can prove to a judge that they have a good reason to think you have committed a crime. 6. You can't be tried if there's not enough evidence. If the jury decides you are innocent, you can’t be tried again. You don’t have to say anything at your trial. In our words –If you are innocent they can’t take anything away. You can’t go to court twice. You don’t have to talk. 7. You have a right to a quick trial. The trial has to be public. The case has to have a jury of ordinary people. You have to know what you are accused of, to see and hear the witnesses against you, and to get help with witnesses and a lawyer. In our words –You can’t be kept in jail forever. 9. The government can't make you pay more than is reasonable in fines, and the government can't order you to have cruel or unusual punishments (like torture).
