Bill Gates is an American business magnate and philanthropist who co-founded Microsoft. He was born in 1955 in Seattle to an upper middle class family. He showed an early interest in programming and studied computer science before dropping out of Harvard to co-found Microsoft with Paul Allen. Microsoft developed software operating systems and became very successful, making Gates very wealthy. He married Melinda French Gates in 1994 and they have three children together. In 2000, Gates and his wife established the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to promote global health and education equality through philanthropic work.

William Henry Gates III was born in Seattle on October 28, 1955, Washington, to
William H. Gates II and Mary Maxwell Gates, of English, German, and Scotch-Irish
descent. Gates has one elder sister, Kristi (Kristianne), and one younger sister, Libby.
His family was upper middle class; his father was a prominent lawyer, his mother
served on the board of directors for First Interstate BancSystem and the United Way.

And enrolled at Harvard College in the
autumn of 1973 majored in pre-law.
While at Harvard, he met Steve

banned by Computer Center
Corporation for exploiting bugs in the
system so that they can get more
time with computers.

•When Gates drop out the college, they bind into a partnership and
name their firm as Micro-soft and had their first office.
•IBM representatives requested Gates for developing the OS as they
got problems in licensing from SCP
•Microsoft retains the license rights for MS-DOS an operating system
that IBM requires for their new personal computer.

Gates did not offer to transfer the copyright on the
operating system, because he believed that other
hardware vendors would clone IBM's system . They did,
and the sales of MSDOS made Microsoft a major player
in the industry.
