This document discusses the costs of financial distress among employees for employers. Financial distress is also linked to poorer health, as 40-50% of financially distressed workers report negative health impacts from their worries, potentially increasing employers' healthcare costs. However, the document argues that workplace financial education programs can help reduce these costs. It cites a study finding a 9:1 return on investment for employers who provide such programs through improved productivity and potentially lower absenteeism and healthcare expenses. The programs have led many employees to improve their financial behaviors and decisions.

The document discusses the advantages of wearing two hearing aids rather than one for those with bilateral hearing loss. Wearing two aids improves speech understanding in both quiet and noisy environments. It enhances a person's ability to locate the source of sounds and provides better balance. Some key benefits include improved directionality, increased volume perception, prevention of auditory deprivation, and reduced feedback.
The document discusses several top hearing aid brands including Siemens, ReSound, Oticon, Phonak, and Starkey. It notes that Siemens has been helping people with hearing loss since 1878, while ReSound is one of the largest suppliers available in over 80 countries. Oticon was founded in 1904 and has been a leader in hearing research, and Phonak is headquartered in Switzerland and has been in business over sixty years focusing on technology solutions. Starkey is known for custom hearing aids and being a leader in waterproof technology.
Hearing aids work by amplifying sound collected by a microphone and playing it back through a small loudspeaker to the ear. While digital aids can finely manipulate amplification for each patient's needs, all aids have a microphone, receiver, and battery. The microphone collects sound which is converted, amplified, and converted back to sound by the receiver. Over time, the brain adjusts to new sounds amplified by the aid, but background noise remains difficult to overcome fully.
Wearing two hearing aids rather than one provides several advantages over a single hearing aid. These include improved speech understanding in both quiet and noisy environments, better ability to tell where sounds are coming from, increased volume perception, prevention of further hearing loss, and improved balance. The document recommends a trial period of wearing two hearing aids to experience these benefits firsthand and help determine whether bilateral or monaural hearing aids are most appropriate.
