Evolution of Data
• Big Data allow us to store more information then ever before.
• Collect Information
• More Information (related)
• Allow us to do more things
• Stop Theft
• Future Predictions
• Intelligent Decisions
• Easier Searching
• Easier Sharing
• Easier Processing
• Faster Services
• Reusability information once data collected
Factors contribute to Big Data
• Volume – Increase in Data Volume
• Transaction based data
• Unstructured Data Streaming from Social Media
• Increasing amount of Sensors (Touch and Go, SmartTAG)
• Machine to Machine data collection and sharing
Excessive data volume > Storage issue
Decreasing storage cost > Create value from collected data
•
Factors contribute to Big Data
• Velocity – Data streaming dealt within timely manner
• RFID tags, sensors, smart metering to help data processing
in near real time

Editor's Notes

  • #5 big data has been around since 1960.. data back then stored in mainframe computer in building or specifically in one floor. to analyze the data, data analyst or data scientist from all around gather in the building to analyze the data.
  • #6 then, multiple sets of computer is deployed, to make it easier for data scientist and data analyst to analyze data from multiple mainframe computers. pic 2 then, all the mainframe computer is bridged together using independent network.
  • #7 in 1980, data research became more serious(among people of Europe's and US), that needed remote access for data scientist or data analyst to access to data without physically going to a specific place. pic 2 Hence, global internet introduced.
  • #8 so once, internet is globally introduced. its made easier for data scientist and analyst to access data from their home and share their findings with their colleagues. pic 2 computer scientist and data analyst no longer needed to know where the data is stored, since they can access it on web.
  • #9 the continued growth of big data, outstripped, capability of data scientist and data analyst to analyze petabytes of data pic 2 thus they had start distributing the data to their company partners all around the world in order to keep the data in storage facility, and allow data sharing, based on trust relationship and mutual exchange pic 3 since storage facility is limited despite relatively available at cheap cost, the birth of cloud computing make it more easier accessing the data, with minimal down time.
  • #11 Big data has potential to help companies or citizens of the world to improve ops,
  • #13 Even your IC can be referred as Big Data because of, Information it stored.
  • #14 Many factors contribute to increase in data volume
