Patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) who received drug-eluting stents were compared in terms of outcomes. Patients with IDDM had higher rates of major adverse cardiac events compared to those with NIDDM one year after receiving drug-eluting stents. Rates of death, myocardial infarction, and target vessel revascularization were higher in patients with IDDM versus NIDDM. Careful follow-up is needed for patients with IDDM who receive drug-eluting stents.
