Research processes (partial) - Project BPM in higher education institutionsTomislav Rozman
What is HEI-UP?
HEI-UP (Improving Business Processes in Higher Education Institutions) is a European project focused on upgrading BPM in HE (higher education) institutions through a common managerial model and offering an e-learning course for HEI managers under the umbrella of the European Certification and Qualification Association (ECQA).
Why business processes?
Business process management (BPM) has been argued to be a more effective and efficient way of managing organizations than a traditional hierarchical management approach.
Today, the most successful universities are business-oriented. An efficient BPM builds up an ideal environment for achieving a high level of pedagogical, research and administrative staff, and above all, student satisfaction.
What's in there for you and your institution?
The HEI-UP project gives you the opportunity to:
● Learn from and contribute to the managerial model developed within the project
● Become more aware of internal managerial efficiency through the tools and support provided
● Successfully align your business processes with the demands and needs of your students and faculty and
● Have free access to the BPM framework developed in the HEI-UP project.
What is expected from you?
We believe in the potentials and creative spirit of professional communities, so we expect that you:
● Engage in conversation with academics and BPM practitioners by sharing
good practices and challenges you or your institution have in relation to BPM,
● Share your BPM related research findings and thus contribute to BPM research or just exchange research ideas with fellow researchers or simply
● Observe and try to get out something good for your institution.
Even if you already know what a SWOT analysis is and what it’s used for, it can be tough to translate that information into something you can action.
It can also be hard to examine your own business with a critical eye if you’re not entirely sure what you should be examining.
Reading an example SWOT analysis for a business that is either in your industry or based on a comparable business model can help get you started.
All of our SWOT analysis examples are based on real businesses that we’ve featured in our gallery of free sample business plans on bplans.com
The following 6 examples are
broken into three parts:
1. A quick introduction to the company.
2. The company’s SWOT analysis.
3. Some potential growth strategies for the company based on what’s revealed by the SWOT analysis.
This presentation was given by Cheryl Doss (PIM / IFPRI / University of Oxford), as part of the Annual Gender Capacity Development Workshop hosted by the CGIAR Collaborative Platform for Gender Research. The event took place on 27-28 September 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, hosted by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and co-organized with KIT Royal Tropical Institute.

Emotion Economy: Ethnography as Corporate StrategyKelly Goto
Today’s consumer is hungry for something much deeper than a viral video. They’re looking for authentic connection. In this emerging Emotion Economy, brands must build products and services that address people’s unspoken feelings, wishes, and needs. And business as usual won’t cut it. To succeed, companies must connect at an emotional level with their customers.

Meghdoot Housing Agency operates in India and its main objective is to build low cost houses that can be bought or rented by low income earners in India. This agency is geared towards working together with the society in ensuring that the under-served population in the society receive some quality housing. The agency makes very serious decisions on the quality of the houses being constructed for their clients. The leadership issue arises at this point of ensuring that the clients receive quality housing, the leadership theory applied in this case by the various individuals at different management levels should ensure that the agency maintains the right standard and image in terms of the services they are providing. The most appropriate leadership theory that can be applied in this case is behavioral Theory (Sengupta & Shaw, 2017).
The company has a mission of serving the low income earners in the society and they are actually committed to give them good quality houses so when the behavior of the personnel is questionable at the various leadership position, things may not work out well. Behavioral theory of leadership focuses not on the traits or the inborn traits of an individual, instead this theory focuses on the what an individual is able to deliver on the particular responsibility that he/she has been signed (Northouse, 2018). This theory is built on an assumption that leaders are actually made because the behaviors of an individual can be adjusted to fit in a given status.
Behavioral theory will ensure that the leader is in a position to adjust to the various qualities depending on the clients who are being served. According to this theory, the leadership qualities are actually learnt and not inherent, in this case the leader will be able to study the various clients and have some clear understanding of what they really what, not from their inherited qualities but by what they have learnt from the field. This is what will make sure the service delivery is at its best and the agency mission is obtained.

Effect of Religiosity & Ethnocentrism on Consumer buying patternSoumyadeep Chowdhury
I have alway been interested in the socio-economic behaviour of human beings. So I decided to take up this project to understand the Indian consumers. Since Religiosity & Ethnocentrism are very sensitive and complicated topic so people weren't willing to take part in the survey and consequently I couldn't collect enough data to draw a strong conclusion. But I learnt a lot during this project. I feel I could have found very interesting insights if I had got enough data points.

Monitoring The Impact of Urban Form Changes on Health and Inequality: The INT...INTERACT
Presented by Meridith Sones
Simon Fraser University
Using cutting-edge technology and tools, INTERACT is conducting natural experiment studies on major changes in urban form in four Canadian cities (a multiuse greenway in Vancouver, a sustainable development plan in Montreal, a bicycle network in Victoria, and Bus Rapid Transit in Saskatoon). Applying an integrated knowledge translation approach in each city, INTERACT aims to: (1) understand context of urban interventions; (2) measure change in urban form; (3) analyze impact of interventions on health, wellbeing, and social inequalities; (4) mobilize knowledge to guide future decision making on urban change.
