Apprentices : 539
Per bus : 3 Drivers and 3 Conductors according to
shifts. There are 5-6 workers per bus.
Not more than 30 women workers work in any depot.

8. Provides PPE to all workers which includes
Safety goggles, Hand gloves, Safety shoes.
Safety audits and inspections are carried out
frequently.
15 days Training for filling the gas.
Grievances Redressal
Complaints are addressed by the Line Manager
and are redressed within stipulated time.
9. There are total of 13 unions in BEST.
The recognised union is-
‘BEST transport workers union’
Since 2007, there are no strike records.
10. Chairperson of BMC is a member of BEST.BMC
has delegated some powers to BEST. GM of
BEST has given some limited power(he can
expand upto 10 lakh rupees). Around 42000
employees are there in organization. These
members are as follows :
1.Executive Members-GM, Chairperson, Class I
officers, these are pillars of BEST.

16. BEST is recently not carrying out any
recruitment process. However they are giving
VRS to many employees. There are two types
of workers such as Trained and Untrained.
There are various training institutes and they
absorb people through those institutes.
17. They have technical trade centre at Wadala
which offers :
ITI courses in various fields such as fitters
and mechanics.
Central Institute of Road Transport
Driver Training Centre at Dindoshi.
18. In 2015, BEST autonomous body of BMC
received a loan of Rs.355 Crore.
In Feb 2016, BMC allocated Rs.10 Crore for
BEST in 2016-17 budget.
The lowest salary of the employees is 15k -
18k and increases according to higher pay
grades.
19. Human Resources Cell mainly working for
Implementation of Common Promotion.
Policy (CPP) formulated for tradesman's of
Electric Supply Branch. Whenever there is
requirement of staff, recruitment/ internal
promotions of tradesman's up to grade P1/T7
are being carried out. To carry out the said
activity works/jobs done are as follows:
20. From hiring to training to firing, all
procedures are looked after by personnel
staff.
If the cost is up then the profit is down.
So, there is a sandwich of HR people to
convince the management sometimes.
Its a challenge to bring in competent
employees.
To keep good hold on all acts related to
labour.

There is no overtime working hours given to
any employees as there is no workload.
22. Daily attendance of the workers are recorded
by Card Punching System.
If the workers remain absent for many days
then appropriate action is taken against
them.

arrangements is important both in terms of
complying with the law, and keeping the
workforce happy. People tend to perform
better and be happier at their work if they are
working in a safe and healthy environment.
24. If accidents takes place in the working area
then then there are medical dispensaries.
If its a major accident on road or in the
shopfloor, then they are immediately taken to
municipal hospitals.
As such there are no accidents in record since
many years.
