Microdesk was hired to design and develop a new paint application for Benjamin Moore to enable users to apply their paint products to Autodesk Revit projects. Microdesk managed all aspects of the project, from planning to development to marketing. They created an intuitive application that allows Revit users to accurately select and apply Benjamin Moore paint colors in their models. The application has been successful in helping customers make color decisions that meet standards like LEED certification. Due to this success, Microdesk has continued their work with Benjamin Moore on additional application development projects.

Designing an Innovative Paint Application
for Benjamin Moore
BENJAMIN MOORE THE CHALLENGE
Benjamin Moore was searching for a new way to help customers in the architecture and
interior design industry. They wanted to enable Autodesk SEEK users to apply their paint
products to projects in Revit, which would create a more accurate and efficient process
for color selection. Additionally, Benjamin Moore was looking to help customers with
color decisions when looking to incorporate specific standards, such as LEED certification
requirements.
SOLUTION
Microdesk was sought to design and develop the Benjamin Moore Color Suite for Revit. The
Microdesk team was responsible for all aspects of project management and development
of the application which included building a comprehensive project plan, overseeing
the writing of the application’s code, and managing the project design until completion.
Microdesk oversaw the user interface and user experience design process to ensure
that the final product was user friendly and intuitive. By applying a Lean Agile process
to the project, Microdesk was able to create a project plan that made the process for the
development of the application efficient, ensuring that it stayed within the project’s scope
and budget.
In addition to designing and managing the development of the application, Microdesk
developed the marketing communications collateral and promotional videos that would
help end-users understand and utilize the new product. Promotional and tutorial videos
were created showcasing the different features of the application.
RESULTS
With the help of Microdesk, Benjamin Moore now has an application that meets the needs
of its customers, and improves their design process. The application has had great success
in serving as a specification writing tool enabling Revit users to add selections for their
models in order to meet specific design/build requirements, such as LEED certification. Due
to the success of the application, Microdesk has extended their application development
work with Benjamin Moore.
